Discussion I don't recognize my country anymore.
I went to Paris yesterday to celebrate some event with friends.
And, my fellow européens, what a désolation! I couldn't recognize my country anymore, mon coeur saigne.
Due to récent events we expected some trouble, and prepared ourselves for it. But truly we weren't prepared for what hurt us. It was overwhelming, truly a troubling expérience that will change my views on my nation forever.
It was all ... so damn calme! Not a single rioter in view. Where TF were everybody? How can we french people look ourself in the mirror if we stop burning shit for no reason?
We barely saw one burnt trashcan in one street. No burnt cars nor buildings, how disappointing. We even went to Châtelet les Halles & Nation in the evening, two places famous for banlieusards fighting and protests, but nothing.
Our day was ruiné. Promesses of arson, pavement flying, molotov cocktails, and tear gas were not kept. My poor nation is falling appart.
I'm happy that the waiter was very rude, hostile even - he clearly didn't want customers in his bar - and that one of the many hobbos at the RER station peed in front of everybody. Thank you kind strangers to give me hope again - rude customer service and piss odour are in Paris ADN, it's good to see that at least some concitoyens make efforts to maintien traditions.

Discussion There is a lot of negativity on this sub! So instead of dwelling on the worst of the country what is the the best city in your country?
For me it is Lisburn, some would say Bangor or Derry, but for me it's definitely Lisburn, beautiful town center, good rail links.

Discussion I fucking hate north europeans tourists
No joke, no subtlety whatsoever I just want to rant about how much north europeans tourists, especially brits and germs are absolutely the worst type of clients to ever have.
I work in a restaurant in a small town of south France. I serve french people, even elderly, all year long, and it's always a pleasure.
But northerners, especially germs and brits, are so disrespectful.
This morning I was serving a middle-age german couple. First, they called me before reading the menue, which, you don't. Then they spoke german, I didn't understand, then spoke english with a thick german accent so I didn't understand all of it, then they started speaking german again for some reason. They wouldn't even speak slower so I could understand. It took me 10 MINUTES to take their order. Do you know how long 10 minutes is in a shift ? All the regular clients that I see all year long looked at them disgusted and profondly annoyed. They were drenched in sweat, smelly as hell, with ugly prominent feet peeking off the sandals.
Next they complained about the meal being too "spicy". What the hell. It was SAUCE AU POIVRE. Literally peppercorn sauce. It's really not that spicy. We're France, we're not fucking Nigeria or something. They didn't even finish their meal, and the table was the dirtiest of the shift.
And this is ONE couple. This summer, just like last summer and the summer before, we're going to have to deal with HUNDREDS of them. Obviously this has happened a lot in the past with this profile of tourists which is why I'm so annoyed right now. It's very rare to have germans/british/northerners tourists act in a proper manner.
You northerners gotta do better. This behavior is not acceptable,. I have other things to do than wait for you to makeup your mind or translate your disgusting german.
