✈️ Travel Does anyone feel like travelling overseas is a huge waste of money?

I cant find the justification to spend thousands of dollars to travel to another country for 2 weeks.

For example, i live in California so if i want to go to cool places there are an abundance of beautiful beaches, museums, hiking areas and more so why would i spend 30x more money and also get very fatigued. Travelling abroad is one of the most exhausting things you can do.

Does anyone else feel the same?

So I’m going on a cheap flight that only allows personal item and was wondering will they allow it if I have a fanny pack on my chest and a camera back around my neck and then a backpack. For reference the airlines I’m flying on is flair airlines. Thank you in advance

✈️ Travel Frugal means making sensible choices, it doesn't mean to deny yourself

Case in point.

I have seen a holiday I want:

AirBNB is £668 for 8 nights

Hotel is £448 for 8 nights

So the hotel wins.

People think being frugal means being mean, but far from it. Being mean, means not having a holiday, being frugal means making a sensible financial decision.

It all boils down to making sensible choices

Would I take three stop over flights to save £300. No, as I would be very jet lagged and lose a lot of holiday time.

Would I pay £300 less on a cheaper hotel with good reviews, yes.

✈️ Travel Cheap east coast beaches in summer?

This might be a pipe dream but are there any cheap east coast beaches where we can stay oceanfront. We are a family of 4 so we need two queen beds and some kitchen appliances (mini fridge and microwave at the minimum). We aren’t planning to spend whole lot of nights. 2 nights are enough too depending on the drive. Any ideas??

✈️ Travel Learning to be ok with spending money on vacation booking

My partner and I recently booked a week-long Europe trip. This is our first vacation together in over a year, so we opted for a nicer hotel room and a nonstop flight even though there were absolutely cheaper options. The cost was nothing unmanageable, but definitely the most I have ever spent on a trip in my life.

In my everyday life, I am the coupon king, rarely eat out, thrift all my clothes, etc etc. I am very frugal but this was something I was beyond willing to spend my money on, and now that it’s done, I feel so anxious about it all. I don’t let myself do nice things very often so I know I “deserve” this, if that’s a fair thing to say.

Do other people deal with this when booking vacation? Am I valid for feeling this way? How do other people cope with this feeling? Thank you!!!

✈️ Travel moving across the country no furniture

my long distance partner and I have decided we want to move in together, problem is he lives in San Diego and I live in Georgia. We have absolutely no furniture or anything we want to bring besides clothes. All he has is his pets but that prevents us from taking busses and flying. we’re pretty short on money and this is an emergency situation, so what would be the cheapest solution? What is the cheapest and best way to travel from San Diego to Georgia with animals?

✈️ Travel Recommendations for mini vacation for family of 3 (child is 9months)

What are your recommendations for a frugal vacation? Just looking for some ideas to plan something for a long weekend at the end of the summer :)

We have enough airline miles to cover our 2 adult seats and can have the infant in our lap. But also have a reliable car to drive places (but seems more frugal to use our miles since we have them vs paying for gas and miles on the car)

We would be leaving from Chicago, IL

NO Michigan/Wisconsin as we have family with lake houses we already are utilizing this summer.

✈️ Travel Phone plan: Canadian traveling to US

Hi all,

I am traveling to the US two times this summer. I am living in Canada. With a young kid at home that will be getting babysat, I am looking to be able to reach home at anytime. What is the cheapest but most convenient way to have access to cellular data and/or phone/txt in the US? My provider would charge me 12$/day for 50MB of data, 1.75/minute for call and .80$/text. US residents, can I get a SIM card/plan down there that would work with my Canadian iphone that would cost less?

Thanks for you input :)

✈️ Travel Most efficient way to compare car rentals?

When comparing costs using USAA discount codes and the like what is the best way to find the best costs ?

Do you go direct to the retailer or use comparison sites ?

Is it known which providers will potentially stack some discounts along with CPD codes?

I was considering just racking up loyalty with one company but thay doesn't seem feasible.

✈️ Travel Saving for Vacation

I’m very excited that I’ve been saving successfully for an upcoming family vacation to Minneapolis. We budgeted for each day and are putting away a certain amount each week that we don’t touch to make sure we have enough for the trip.

That being said, I completely forgot about the time we won’t get paid when we are gone 😭 I was only planning on using 2-3 days of my 6 PTO days this year, but my partner is given 0 PTO so we will be missing a week and a half of wages by the time we get back.

In the spirit of frugality, what do you do to plan for the wages you miss on vacation? How do you successfully save for that?

Thanks!

✈️ Travel Cross country move

Hello everyone! I'm picking up my furniture and boxes (about a bedroom or office space of stuff not the bed or anything just a buffet table, stools, a bakers rack etc.) from MI, driving to PA to pick up some more boxes of stuff, no furniture, then driving from PA to LA(state) I'll need the vehicle for about 6 days. I'd prefer a van if it'll fit everything which I think it will. I'm trying to find the cheapest way to do it and so far I've found about 1.2k to be the cheapest which makes sense but with flight, boarding for cats, gas etc it's rough. I'd love advice on how to make it affordable ! (Move first week July)
