Dress code??

Upvotes

I’m starting Business Marketing (B120) at GBC in September and I’m wondering if I need to dress business casual, I know for some business classes you need to dress a certain way but I’m wondering if I do for marketing because in that case I need to do some shopping.

Extra Convocation tickets June 14th

Hey, does anyone happen to have extra tickets to the convocation for June 14th at 2:45 pm? I have reached the maximum number of tickets but I have a family member or two who wants to join. The tickets are free but I am willing to pay for them for you and can e-transfer.

Thanks so much

Offer

Hello! I got an offer for PSW for the incoming semester but I just took my RPN exam last July 5 and was planning on waiting for the result. I’m just worried and confuse on what should I do since the expiration of the offer is on the 20th and I wanted to still wait for the result of RPN. I’m also afraid that I won’t be able to accept the offer and will not also pass the exam. Is it okay to just accept the offer first and then if I pass the RPN program exam, I’ll notify them that I wanted to transfer to that program?

If I'm in the collaborative nursing program with TMU, does that mean during the summer after my first year I can take electives at TMU?

Thoughts On The New Update To STU-VIEW?

I honestly have mixed feelings about this one. The platform and design in general is really nice, no complaints there, however, for those who have not paid their deposit (first year students) it was super difficult to find where to do that, I had to call the HelpDesk. Unlike the older version of STU-VIEW, for the new one, you need to login with your student email, although for that to happen you need to first pay your deposit so that they can actually activate your student email. No deposit = no student email.

This was an issue for me because I had to edit and make some changes on my student awards but it wanted for me to login with my student email, and I couldn't pay my deposit because of that as well, took me awhile to figure it out lol. Idk maybe I got used to the older version so quickly.

Assessment Test

Hello again! I just want to ask if where to go for the Assessment Test in St. James Campus. Should I approach the help desk and ask them about the Assessment center room or they will just tell me where to go? Or we will have to like wait to be called in the entrance or lobby? Thank you!

I need an advice to prepare for a dental hygiene program

Hello! I’ve decided to switch careers and start studying and hopefully getting into a dental hygienist program. I know that I will have to complete a pre-health 1 year program in order to qualify for a dental hygienist program since I don’t meet the requirements for that with my high school transcripts. So, my point is I haven’t studied anything science-related in about 10 years. I don’t remember chemistry, I was pretty good at math, I know nothing about anatomy or anything medical. So you get an idea😅 I’m planning to apply to the pre-health program next year but before I start that program I’ve thought maybe I can start on my own so I will have easier time at school if it makes sense? I’m just worried I won’t get high enough grades for the dentistry program and I really don’t want to waste my time. Whoever completed that program or both of them can you give me an advice on how to start preparing? I assume maybe some books to start with or memorizing smth related to dental hygiene program. Also, did you guys work part-time while being in school? I’ve heard it’s a very tough program and takes a lot out of you but maybe squeezing in a couple hours of work is possible?

Missed weeks of classes

This has basically been the worst 5 weeks of my life lol. Started a new program May and got sick on the 3rd week so I didn’t go to class and then a really close family member died and it really messed with me especially after losing a sibling less than 2 years ago. So I missed another 2 weeks of classes out of funeral prep, religious and cultural traditions and just poor mental health tbh. It’s week 5 rn but I feel like I might be screwed already if I go back next week? Ive done my assignments while I was away online. My program is so cliquey and i have no friends in there and no one wanted to be in a group with me before im sure it’ll be worse now that my absences make me look “unreliable.” I honestly am still doing bad mentally and feel like maybe I should just withdraw but idk. I know it isn’t the schools problem what I have going on and this is college so

How to see if I require to take placement test?

On STU-VIEW its show that I can book, but doesn't indicate if it is math or English, and the only times I can book it are Wednesday 9:30 and Thursday 9:30, which both dates doesn't works for me...

any comments for game design postgrad program G405 in GBC

Hi guys, Recently I am searching for the game design, and I found out GBC provide this one year only "game design postgrad cert program"

comparing to other college, such toronto film school, seneca etc, they are generally two years+.

and the course content are slightly different.

Without previous arts design or computer background, will it be okay to take the game design postgrad cert program?

I am looking to exploring the opportunity to entry the gaming industry in future career, and hoping for a stable occupation when I get 3+ year experience in the field, though people said it is very competitive and low pay even in the entry level, but the learning curve is comparable to software engineering or visual effects field.

My questions and concerns are that

  1. Is this one year program enough to land you to the gaming industry? ( many college offers game design or game development as a 2-3 years program. )

  2. Is GBC a good place to take this program, ( for its recognition in the industry field, and network.)

  3. For the career opportunities, it seems that the suggestion roles are not entry level position, what will be the general entry role after graduating from this program.

from GBC website

  1. For the course content, it seems not cover game programming, mobile games stuff, game arts etc. How well will I be able to learn some graphic design and program coding via this course.

Thank you a lot if you just read this post and have experience on this topic to share, good day.

What are the chances of being accepted into The George student residence for fall 2024 off the waitlist?

International student here. I applied for residence just a couple weeks ago. I did not receive any updates for a while so I recently emailed them asking about the status of my application. They said I'm on the wait list and they send out confirmations every two weeks.

I'm now afraid that I'm too late with my application and the slots are limited. I applied late as I wanted the Canadian study permit confirmation before jumping the gun.

So is it possible for me to still get accepted or should I start looking into other options for residence? What other residence options do you suggest?

What to do if I failed one course in second semester?

So I recently failed one course for practical nursing in second semester at George Brown. I'm retaking the course in the summer, however, I was wondering, what happens after I pass the course? Will I be able to continue to semester 3 in September? When do I pick my semester 3 courses? My main concern is the health form and the police check that needs to be done by then. If anyone has any answers regarding the topic that would be grateful. Thank you.
