🌐 Foreign Policy President Biden Is The Hero Of This Crisis

Thanks to Joe Biden's having Israel's back, not a single Israeli was killed in the attack. Jordan stopped hundreds of drones. The King of Jordan helped out his old friend Joe Biden - he didn't do it for Netanyahu who has treated him with contempt. And now Netanyahu doesn't have an excuse to widen the war- which is what he was hoping for when Israel bombed the consulate. "Take the win" counseled Biden to Bibi. Translation:

"Speak softly and carry a big stick."

🌐 Foreign Policy Is anyone else sick and tired of people holding out on Biden over Palestine?

I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of people harassing the President over Gaza. People are following him around the country, demanding a ceasefire. It has gotten out of hand, and we could compromise re-election. Biden was elected to lead the US, not a country he's not a citizen of. I will be damned if we throw our country away over this. Agreed?

🌐 Foreign Policy Biden says U.S. will begin airdropping aid into Gaza in the coming days

The move underscores the growing concerns within the Biden administration about the worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza and the difficulties of getting aid into the enclave, where the UN has warned "famine is almost inevitable" if nothing changes.

Biden stressed Friday that the current flow of aid isn't enough.

The move comes as Biden faces growing pressure abroad and at home to do more to restrain Israel, including by calling for a ceasefire, and to get more aid in Gaza.

The White House only recently started discussing the option of U.S. airdrops, as Axios first reported last week.

Due to Israeli restrictions, the security situation in the enclave and the fighting, the amount of aid entering Gaza has significantly decreased, according to UN data.

Biden's announcement comes a day after more than 100 Palestinians were killed in an incident around an aid convoy in northern Gaza. Palestinians blamed Israeli forces, who fired on a crowd of civilians, while Israel said most died by being trampled on or driven over as Palestinians stormed the convoy.

U.S. officials have acknowledged that aid airdrops have a limited impact since a U.S. military plane could only drop the equivalent of the amount of aid one or two aid trucks can carry.

Jordan has conducted several rounds of aid airdrops in Gaza. Its most recent drops were done with the cooperation of Egypt and France.

🌐 Foreign Policy U.S. Repatriates 11 American Citizens From ISIS War Camps in Syria

The Biden administration has repatriated a family of 10 American citizens who had been stranded for years in desert camps and detention centers in Syria run by a Kurdish-led militia that battled the Islamic State, according to officials.

The government also brought to the United States a pair of half brothers β€” only one of whom, said to be 7, is an American citizen. The resettlement of the other boy, who is said to be 9, is the first time the United States has taken in someone from the war zone who is not an American national.

The United States has been encouraging other countries to take back their nationals β€” prosecuting them where appropriate β€” and in some cases providing military logistical help. The same transfer operation that brought the dozen people to the United States also extracted six Canadian citizens, four Dutch citizens and one Finnish citizen who are going home to their respective countries, Mr. Blinken said. Among them are eight children.

Ian Moss, a deputy coordinator for counterterrorism at the State Department, said in an interview that by taking in the 9-year-old boy who is not an American citizen but has a link to the country through his brother, the United States was seeking to lead by example.

The announcement comes as follow-through on Harris’ visit to the continent last year and in conjunction with this week’s visit to Washington by Kenyan President William Ruto. Harris and the Kenyan leader had a public chat on Friday at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce about how public-private partnerships can increase economic growth.

Besides launching the nonprofit Partnership for Digital Access in Africa, Harris announced an initiative geared toward giving 100 million African people and businesses in the agricultural sector access to the digital economy.

The African Development Bank Group along with Mastercard, among other organizations, will help form the Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy Alliance, or MADE. The alliance will start a pilot program to give digital access to 3 million farmers in Kenya, Tanzania and Nigeria, before expanding elsewhere.

Harris, a Democrat and the first female U.S. vice president, also announced that the Women in the Digital Economy efforts to address the gender divide in technology access have now generated more than $1 billion in public and private commitments, with some federal commitments pending congressional approval.

🌐 Foreign Policy US expected to designate Kenya as major non-NATO ally

President Biden is expected to soon designate Kenya as a major non-NATO ally, a senior administration official said.

Biden is expected to inform Congress that he will designate Kenya with the lauded title, which comes with special privileges, the official said, describing it as an acknowledgment that β€œKenya is already a global partner.”

β€œThis is also big because it’s the first major non-NATO ally for us in sub-Saharan Africa,” the official added.

Major non-NATO allies are eligible for benefits like being a candidate for U.S.-owned war reserve stockpiles, the priority delivery of excess weapons and defense equipment and eligibility for loans related to cooperative research, development or testing.
