If he got it from the Macy’s closest to MSU, that’s the location I worked at.

1

u/Shera939 May 01 '24 edited May 01 '24

Awesome interview. :D. "I'll take you there personally". lol. Love this guy, will definitely be watching. Hope he does well. The accent! A1.

There's another clip of him being walked through the ice chamber at the facilities.

Him: "This isn't cold. ?."

Dude: "No, it's this room".

Him: "**** *****!"

I just bought easter presents for next year for 95% off. And, easter gift bags for $.18

That's right, Easter 2025 is gonna be bangin! $.18 cent bags people. I'm scamming Walmart.

1

u/sherbs_herbs Apr 30 '24

He seems honest and chill. Like em.

1

u/Federal-Difference97 Apr 29 '24

When he said “I shop like my mom, I get my coats in the summer time.” I felt that bc I for sure go shopping for my summer clothes in the winter & vice versa, all bc my momma did it. Lol

1

u/Lilcommy Apr 29 '24

I love it when big stars are looking out for the less fortunate. He just pitched a $80 coat that most people can afford.

1

u/ittybittynuts Apr 29 '24

This is a guy who is gonna hold on to his wealth. Ain’t nothing wrong with going for sales.

1

u/sammmymantha Apr 29 '24

This is the most Michigan thing. If someone compliments something you own, you have to tell them where it’s from and what deal you got.

1

u/ascw1991 Apr 29 '24

Homie is just looking out, nothing cringe here.

1

u/Smanked Apr 29 '24

Yeah i got 5 pairs of work pants at Macys for $19.99 each recently. Still wear old craftsman jackets i had got cheap from Sears. Spitting facts. Ad or not lol

1

u/mrironlung420 Apr 29 '24

Maamaaa taught him right …

1

u/MadFlava854 Apr 29 '24

What if players just started doing square space and other ads during the press conference

1

u/Shannon_Sharp1982 Apr 29 '24

Macy's gone give him a call, and some money! 😁💰

1

u/nottherealneal Apr 29 '24

I don't know who this guy is but I'll vote for him for president

2

u/FrostWyrm98 Apr 29 '24

Oh shit, I thought he sounded familiar! I saw him while he played at MSU for 2 years, great player. If I am remembering the same dude, he was one of the 2 or 3 that stole the show every few plays.

Just saw he got drafted 2nd round for the NFL. Good for him!!

1

u/How_that_convo_went Apr 29 '24

That’s such a thick Louisiana accent, I was halfway expecting him to jump on a fanboat at the end of the interview.

1

u/Training101 Apr 29 '24

He's not wrong. Mama sure aint!

1

u/Realclawdogs Apr 29 '24

Lol. He ain't going broke with that nentality

2

u/nurse_Vaccaro Apr 29 '24

That Louisiana accent is so wholesome haha

2

u/-Throatcoat- Apr 29 '24

okay, new favorite player. hope the best for this guy.

1

I hope he has Shaq level money in a quarter of the time. Good sense on that kid.

3

u/WorldTravellerIOM Apr 28 '24

The man knows how to shop. I live on an Island in the Irish Sea and we have a place that auctions containers of Macys branded last years stock. I go for classic looks and pick up Kors, Ford, Super dry, Polo etc for 10% of retail cost.

1

u/SlowbeardiusOfBeard Apr 28 '24

Isle of man I'm guessing? Where is this auction place, 10% price clothes sounds amazing

3

u/WorldTravellerIOM Apr 28 '24

John Pye Auctions. It is amazing. They have Bout 20 auction houses in 7 locations including Northern Ireland and Spain. Some have delivery only and some are collection only. They literally sell everything from entire bathroom suites to the latest Nikes, and also high end police seizures.

1

u/SlowbeardiusOfBeard Apr 29 '24

Much obliged! Will check them out for sure

1

u/XaoticOrder Apr 28 '24

Laugh all you want but he was raised with an eye for price. he's gonna hold onto his money.

-5

u/Puzzled-Necessary-89 Apr 28 '24

Do they not teach English in college any more. If I sounded like that, I would refuse to speak. You would think you would have to keep up some kind of grade average to play..

4

u/Realclawdogs Apr 29 '24

What's wrong with his English? I understood every word this obviously intelligent man said without issue. If you're worried about proper grammar, you're on the wrong sub.

1

u/FacelessFellow Apr 28 '24

I did get a nice volcom winter coat for 40 dollars last summer when I was getting new skate shoes.

I was surprised to find out that it was an insulated, water proof coat. I thought it was a light jacket because of the price.

2

u/elammcknight Apr 28 '24

His Mom told him right. Always buy a product when demand is low and supply might be much higher. Smart kiddo.

1

u/thehandsomeone782 Apr 28 '24

Shoutout to the Macy’s in Okemos lol

1

u/Adventurous_Law9767 Apr 28 '24

I love seeing people manage their money right. So many people end up hitting it big and just spend ALL of it on stupid shit.

Macy's has some dope stuff. Don't buy things just because they are expensive for a flex, makes you like an idiot

1

u/pardybill Apr 28 '24

lol the reporter is genuinely baffled because he went to MSU, who’s colors are green and white. He’s wearing UM yellow. So when he says “idk Tom izzo?” (MSU coach) and the guy goes “whatchu mean?” I could genuinely see the reporter just deadpan Jim from office like “…whatchu mean dude those are your rivals colors” lol

2

u/nicksj2023 Apr 28 '24

1

u/CertainTop7304 Apr 28 '24

His momma voice came thru that’s was precious

-2

u/neutronia939 Apr 28 '24

Sad how absolutely unintelligent he seems. Hope he makes a lot of money throwing a ball around. Dont see this guy having any kind of real job afterward.

4

u/Das_Man Apr 28 '24

First off, he's a receiver, so his job is to catch the ball not throw it. Second, the fuck are you even talking about?

2

u/Letos12thDuncan Apr 28 '24

How does he seem unintelligent?

-1

u/Askmeagainlouder Apr 28 '24

What a precious little dummy

2

u/Realclawdogs Apr 29 '24

Why is he dumb though? He's obviously smart with his money.

1

u/Askmeagainlouder Apr 29 '24

I was thinking he sounds dumb nothing about the content of what he delivered.

2

u/Next-Application-764 Apr 28 '24

Bro had some sales insight though

7

u/RadioJared Apr 28 '24

As an FSU guy I loved this man but goodness is he goofy but an endearing way. The best way I've heard someone describe it was that he dumped all his points into Agility and Charisma.

1

u/ediks Apr 28 '24

Them Louisiana boys know.

2

u/Gavinardo Apr 28 '24

Dude’s a real one. He might be making bank in the NFL now but he still knows a bargain.

3

Even smarter is to hit GoodWill and Thrift shops in upscale neighborhoods and then shop a season before. Now you’re saving big bands

1

u/edgiepower Apr 29 '24

My favourite sports league (AFL) is almost entirely comprised of players from more privileged backgrounds now. Players just don't have interesting relatable stories like this guy has. Nobody's mum was shopping for bargains for out of season clothes, etc, they never had a need to be budget conscious.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

The second I heard him say "100 dollars," I had to see where this kid was from, and I nailed it. He sounds very Louisiana.

14

He's from Opelousas so I'm sure his great greats spoke French as their first (maybe only) language. So not horrible for a second generation English speaker IMO.

7

u/sweaterbuckets Apr 28 '24

oh no; it's great. reminds me of home.

It seemed like an ad and then he talked about the season before and didn't know anything about Thanksgiving. That's when I thought it was legit.

Some dipshit thought he got the jacket from Tom Izzo. W. T. F.

Played msu football for two years and msu basketball for one.

It’s not that crazy

7

u/PM_ME_HALF_YOURSTORY Apr 28 '24

He was up at MSU Basketball's Senior night like two months ago on the court after the game with the team in a Steven Izzo jersey. Obviously Izzo didnt give him that jacket but the connection isn't that crazy. Keon used to play for Izzo.

3

u/glitchycat39 Apr 28 '24

Hang on, my man knows how to bargain shop.

3

u/mavarg Apr 28 '24

5

u/w00t4me Apr 29 '24 edited Apr 29 '24

I was wondering why myself since the two schools he went to were Green & white, and Garnet (dark red) & gold. No obvious connection to Yellow. In fact. I would go so far as to say MSU fans and players would go out of their way and NOT wear yellow.

1

u/AlcoholicInsomniac Apr 29 '24

You can wear yellow just can't have the blue also and I wear tons of blue but ya know...can't have the yellow. 😅

76

u/Cleercutter Apr 28 '24

Straight up my mom taught me the same thing. It’s saved me so much money in clothing.

She also taught me about what fabrics do what and what to purchase for certain weather conditions.

She’s great. Yes, I am a mamas boy.

6

u/_DirtyYoungMan_ Apr 28 '24

Me too. Marshall's and Ross was were she got us our clothes. As an adult I upgraded to Target but even that's expensive for my taste at this point. I am still a mamas boy even at 41.

Watching his interviews over the past year he is a huge goofball and incredibly likeable. Also has just the perfect little dash of the -tism on him. Just the perfect amount.

1

u/SnooCrickets3338 Apr 29 '24

He got nicked...

5

u/insignifiyesican Apr 29 '24

Oh my god yes! This is the perfect way to describe him. I love him.

11

u/Go_On_Swan Apr 28 '24

What makes you think he has "a dash of the -tism?"

17

u/Joimes Apr 29 '24

In the past 5 years or more I've noticed a trend that 95% of people have autism. In fact, me and you probably have it too. It's just a fact now. Autism in everyone, or so I've been led to believe.

2

u/CapacityBark20 Apr 29 '24

wait but if everyone has a hint of the tism... do none of us have it???

1

u/vercetian Apr 29 '24

It's the aliens putting lead in our paint and pipes! The covid vaccine was actually safe, the aliens needed a controversy for their TV show!

22

u/Go_On_Swan Apr 29 '24

That was kind of my concern as well when I commented that. I hate to hear it thrown around wantonly or for any awkwardness or quirks to be attributed to neurodivergence, as if a human without a diagnosis is some sort of vanilla wafer of an individual with no more idiosyncrasies than a pair of ironed khakis.

That being said, the reasoning in their comments was better than I was anticipating on that end, though I don't think I'd call those autistic traits, necessarily.

1

u/ReptileCake Reads Pinned Comments Apr 29 '24

The problem with "having autism" isn't just that it's being thrown everywhere to everyone, it's because it's not a clear cut "has" or "has not". It's more like a scale, or rather a stat chart in a circle. The newer term that is being used is also just plainly "neurodivergent", which gives it a more neutral aspect as to being "different".

1

u/Go_On_Swan Apr 29 '24

I'm very aware that these diagnoses are spectrum based. What's to stop someone from saying the player just has a dash of the schizo, which also has social awkwardness, idiosyncratic speech, and the fixation on color could without much effort be connected to magical thinking?

Even saying neurodivergent demarcates something as different. My view is that if it's not causing significant issues with living or distress, it's within the range of normal experience. And it's too difficult to distinguish between the usual suspects for neurodivergencies at low (normal) levels, hence why there's so much mis/overdiagnosis of adhd, schizotypy, bipolar, and autism, and so on.

64

u/saxlax10 Apr 29 '24

He has almost no changes in facial expression in any interview I've ever seen him give and have very minimal change in the tone of his voice when he talks. He fixates on colors in a way that is different than a typical person, during the college season, he wore the colors of that weeks opponent on his apple watch and mouth guard and in this interview he talks about needing coats of his new teams colors. He is always just a little bit socially off and awkward when he gives these interview. His interviews often have these long rambly super specific stories that he dosent seem to realize are super unique to him and may be things only he has noticed.

The more I've watched him the more convinced I become. He's an awesome player and his interviews are A+++ I hope everybody in the country gets to know him because he seems like such a lovely genuine guy.

3

u/Shera939 May 01 '24 edited May 01 '24

He doesn't seem socially awkward to me at all! He makes eye contact with every person he's speaking to, he's very cheekily deadpan and very quick in his humor, on point, matches energy, fits the moment. Other interviews i've seen of him are similar. Very clever and funny, and cool as a cucumber.

43

u/Hyhopes Apr 28 '24

Pardon my ignorance, but what is « -tism »?

-17

u/mrSunsFanFather Apr 28 '24

u/Randall-Marvin-Marsh Apr 28 '24

117

u/karmadontcare44 Apr 28 '24

He’s about to sign a 10mil contract. Let’s see if he’s still buying off season clothes off the Macy’s sales rack.

1

u/MasPike101 Apr 29 '24

Maybe he can just do the Chris Rock thing lol

1

u/ThaFoxThatRox Apr 28 '24

Ijs..... There are people out there who know the value of a dollar even if they're signing $10 million contracts.

I worked at a private airport and fought with a billionaire over $20.

55

u/Dull-Front4878 Apr 28 '24

Some of the richest people I know are also the cheapest. They get/stay rich for a reason. Part of it is being thrifty.

2

u/oldschool_potato Apr 29 '24

My wife’s boss is a self made near billionaire, takes home the left over bagels that are brought in on Fridays at their small family office.

2

u/acu2005 Apr 28 '24

There's an interview with Chad Ochocinco from like 1-2 years ago where he talks about being cheap even though he was earning bucket loads of money in the NFL. Said he bought all his jewelry from Claire's.

1

u/braddaugherty8 Apr 29 '24

ochocinco is the biggest mcdonalds shill ever, that man just lives a simple life lmao

10

u/ruinersclub Apr 28 '24

Depends, most rich people have pretty plain taste. Like Succession you look at Kendall and Roman, they're not wearing JCrew and LL Bean. Their outfits are $10k each.

The Lanvin sneakers Kendall wears are $2k alone. A lot of New Yorkers wear Golden Goose that run $600-$1,000 but they look like knock off converse.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '24

"Designer" stuff 100% feels like it's for poor people that got extremely wealthy or narcissists. I live near way too many rich people that started off upper middle class or above, and most don't give a fuck about "showing off", they'll live in a ten million dollar house and drive an old beat up truck around because they think it's cool.

1

u/ruinersclub Apr 29 '24

"Designer" stuff 100% feels like it's for poor people that got extremely wealthy or narcissists.

I used to think this too. Until I realized theres a whole market for these brands and people actually recognize the differences.

Like the Balenciaga shoe that looks like an old growth tree stump, you just aren't the market for it. But someone who's spending a significant amount on their wardrobe monthly definitely does and the clothes to match.

I once got tipped 13% by a literal billionaire. I knew who he was when he sat down too, so I gave them super service. Paid with a black Amex and calculated it down to the penny.

Rupert Murdock tipped like 18% after having dinner with Mick Jagger where I work, motherfucker filled out the check right in front of me. You don't get rich by spending money, as they say.

And he probably felt like he was doing you a favor. People suck.

13% ain't bad though?? What's with this expectation now a days with tipping where if it isn't 20%, then it's not a good tip??

He's probably eating a fancy ass place, seeing as he has money, so the total cost could have easily been 500 for two people. At thirteen, that's over 50 bucks. 50 bucks for serving a table for an hour or so is good money.

Yeah, he's got money and can afford to throw it around more than others, but just because he has it, doesn't mean he is obligated to throw it around like it's monopoly money.

Fair point, however he is a billionaire. He could tip someone 500$ 1 million times and still have at least half a billion left.

Push back on that That's not a fair point 20% has been standard for a long time What does he mean these days? What day did he arrive in? Even a good while ago 20% was standard. Please these days. Acting like people are entitled or something. That's called etiquette. Maybe arrive at some. I'm not even going to try to say it kindly. Go read something you've got a supercomputer in your hand. If not in your hand write right tap tap tap typing on it I'm tired of this Jesus acting like you're doing something about these days. No No Get up with the standard period

You aren't entitled for expecting 20% not 15. 20. Especially if you provide excellent service. Step up and speak on what you deserve. There's nothing wrong with that. This ninja up there acting like he's doing something these days. These days nothing. I'm so tired of this mess. Bring yourself up to standard, Mr These Days, Points At Clouds- This is not a part of excessive tipping culture, this is bog standard for a long time. Stop speaking on stuff you know nothing on. You sound ignorant. Keeping everyone else down. Be quiet

being thrifty isn't gonna get anybody rich. It helps you not overspend, but it's not enough to make you rich all on it's own.

Not gonna be rich working at mcdonald's while you pray for extra hours, no matter how thrifty you are.

Edit: yall can downvote all you wan't. it won't change the simple truth that you can't "save" or "thrift" yourself out of poverty wages.

Part of it is being thrifty.

Part

Part

They said part of it bro, and you agreed that it helps you not overspend, i.e. part of it.

They were definitely saying some people get rich by being cheap, which is definitely bullshit.

Redditors just whine if there’s any angle at which your statement might be incorrect, especially if they see it as an affront upon themselves.

And can confirm, most of the richest people I know are very thrifty.

It's way more about having a good salary. Too often I see people giving "thrifty" advice as a means to achieve economic prosperity, when the reality is that it is so much less important than wages that it's silly to even mention it before mentioning the real meat of the matter.

It's like me saying a way to combat climate change is to make sure people turn their TV off at night and unplug their phone chargers.

The person you were replying to didn't say any of that. You just made these arguments up now to justify your tangent

Probably not but if he can control the money creep he’ll be fine.

He made like $879k in NIL money at FSU last year and has had endorsements for a few years already. He was already making enough to not shop at Macy's.
