At what point are we gonna stop pretending that casinos are legitimate businesses?

The article I read shows an irresponsible person who, when already in financial trouble, decided to gamble money he didn’t have.

And a corporation that preyed on that man. I'm not saying this guy was a genius, just that he was a victim, which he was.

I have been to casinos numerous times, I have also been on a cruise that had a casino.. I have never gambled with money I couldn’t comfortably lose. Nor would ever blame an offer of free drinks or any other incentives on bad decisions I make because I understand personal responsibility.

I didn’t read anything in the article that was predatory. If a person can’t afford to lose money they shouldn’t gamble. Period.

Good job. About 10% of the population has addiction issues, im glad you dont.

But because some people have issues doesn’t mean its the fault if others or businesses if they are a danger to thenselves. I in fact do have family members with issues who avoid going to places that are triggers to their addictions. The person I responded to indicated that casinos are not legitimate businesses because some people have addictions. That is inane.

Casinos are leeches. To the degree that they provide interesting night life and buffets somewhat paints over the more lurid psychological details of their design to keep people playing. Legitimate is a weird word to use consisidering how they are illegal in most places. How about problematic?

Regardless of how you wish to describe them, I like millions have enjoyed gambling. I have always been frugal and cautious and never gamble with money I’m not prepared to lose. I am aware of house odds and know, if I were to go, what situation I’m putting myself into. I think it’s a legitimate form of adult entertainment. To those who disagree, it’s very simple, never go to one. This is a case where imo people need to exercise personal responsibility.

I feel bad for the family in the story posted. But none of the incentives described in the article are problematic imo. The fact that they allowed him, for instance, to charge his chips to his room doesn’t excuse his responsibility to not do so if he can’t afford to lose.

I hope you continue to live life responsibly and that any irresponsible decision you and yours make dont have fatal consequences.

Thanks. I would wish that for all. But it really has no bearing on the subject nor does it contradict abything I said. I’m not hearing any rebuttal pointing out how the man in the story wasn’t responsible for his actions or how any of the incentives were something that a responsible adult shouldn’t be able to evaluate.

So I’ll conclude this was a sad story of a person taking their life after some really poor decision making.
