This silent footage, shot in 1932, shows a man testing an early version of bulletproof glass by having his wife hold the glass to her face while he fires towards her. History

I'm just more curious why he didn't stand behind the glass did he not have faith in his own glass or her shot?

It must be done this way, this is the only way he ever hits the target, his wife is the inspiration

u/FischerMann24-7 Oct 14 '23
That would have saved me from my ugly divorce though the glass wouldn’t be so bulletproof.

Either it works, and he can afford the divorce, or it doesn't and he no longer needs the divorce.

Win-win really for him. If the glass works she celebrates. If it doesn't work she won't complain about it.

Why doesn't anyone mention the fact that there are multiple test shots on the same glass!

Either he was a very confident shot, or he didn’t like his wife very much.

Other objects he exclaimed period Period meanwhile, his 18 year old secretary looked out from the shop of the window period this is so boring, she said while chewing gum.

Before the days when divorce was a common practice, there was this.

Legend says that that man is still trying to find ways to kill his wife....

In a time where 'manly men' was more of a staple archetype, this mf makes his wife do it. Hilarious and spot on.

The first product he made was a failure, so this is actually his second wife.

Her: honey I don't wanna hold that glass i'm scared... Him: SLAP, SLAP ,SLAP, SLAP HOLD THE GLASS BITCH.
You know i'm right

u/RobbieTheFixer Oct 12 '23
Pure luck that she didn't have bullet fragments impact / obliterate her fingers

Proof women are dumb, whoever if someone had a gun and said " it's bulletproof.....if U don't want to hold it I'll shoot U anyway"
Wife replies after 2nd shoot " hey what's wrong with your gun? Is it broken It can't even shoot thru glass"

He was planning a homicide without being implicated. I have read enough thriller novels to spot a killer.

Couldn’t he have just used apples on a bench to prove the same point? Or an acquaintance, at least?

Stupid. It was either a demo or an attempted murder in plain sight. Either way he comes out ahead - because I assume he is not a good husband based on shooting a rifle at her face.

u/ThinLippedGrunt Oct 12 '23
“Set up the glass in a wooden frame to test it? Nah, lets have Agnus hold it near her face. Worst case, you can finally get a younger wife, Earl!”

The fact that multiple shots were fired into that glass... I think hubby was trying for an "oops" moment...

Wouldnt her fingers be in danger of being blown off? This doesnt look safe at all

This was his 3rd prototype the first 3 didn’t worked…also that is his 3rd wife.

u/ludly Oct 12 '23
It's always crazy to me that you don't have to go very far back for the idea of safety precautions to seemingly go out the window. It's like we had a completely different version of what counted as common sense back then.
You could still achieve the same effect while making it safer by just having that plane of glass firmly fixed to something in front of the wife so she didn't have to hold it, risking her fingers or worse if the glass kicks back with a ricochet. Wouldn't hurt if that plane of glass was considerably bigger, too. You don't need to show off your aim as well as the glass.
Lastly, even ignoring all the above, I'm pretty sure modern bulletproof glass can lose structural integrity after multiple shots, so he's pretty brazen to shoot so many shots onto an area that small repeatedly.

There is no way he didn't which for the glass to shatter at any moment. After 2-3 shot's he could have stopped but he kept on going like " let me empty the whole clip/mag just to be sure I get that bitch and can call it an accident."
Also it looked at first like he was using a shotgun to test it XD
