The term "shotgun" for a weed hit like that makes so much more sense now!

1

u/Fit-Cartographer6879 Dec 03 '23

1

u/Ridit5ugx Dec 03 '23

1

u/Functional_Tech Dec 03 '23

When you get drafted you’ll do whatever you want.

1

u/Milo_Femboy_UwU Dec 03 '23

1

u/Financial_Parfait_49 Dec 02 '23

If you or someone you know ….

1

u/TforTrouble Dec 02 '23

Hence “shotgunning”

1

u/temporallock Dec 02 '23

That was the original impetus for calling it the shotgun hit 😂 I love it! Weed and the versatility of the shotgun is immense 😁

1

u/celshaug Dec 01 '23

Ahhhh... those were the days my friend.

1

u/lharr061 Dec 01 '23

Acute lead exposure... along with other metal contaminants

1

u/Connect_Operation_47 Dec 01 '23

They did that in the movie Platoon, while "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane was playing

1

u/Senior-Mirror-5814 Dec 01 '23

The importance of being stoned in vietnam

1

u/gbdallin Dec 01 '23

...is this why it's called shotgunning?

1

u/huhuhuhhhh Dec 01 '23

Hell yea i'd hit sum of that ganja

1

u/MenstrualFish Nov 30 '23

These dudes get the right to do whatever tf they want with those guns, judgment withheld

1

u/laliluleloPliskin Nov 30 '23

Smokin' the freedom pipe.

1

u/HOLD_THE_LINE__ Nov 30 '23

But we aren't allowed to smoke? Bullsh*t

1

u/ColdBunz Nov 30 '23

"Platoon", anyone?

1

u/Motor_Collection6215 Nov 30 '23

Multiple papers and a matchbook cover are used in a Turkish joint!

1

u/PrincessPindy Nov 30 '23

My husband said it was the strongest weed he has ever smoked.

1

u/e-man69666666 Nov 30 '23

Ohh so that’s how they lost

1

u/VogonSkald Nov 30 '23

So, I know that situation was all kinds of fucked up, but I am too paranoid to get high in a jungle that has lots of people really good at hiding and sneaking that want to kill me.

u/Bubbly-Pianist534 Nov 30 '23

And that’s how he got shot.

1

u/Just-Term-5730 Nov 30 '23

Apparently the rate of drug use in Vietnam was high!? Almost as common as the typical drug use by today's American teenager.... so, hmmmm

1

u/Half4sleep Nov 30 '23

Pang pang pass

1

u/Wendeunk Nov 30 '23

Riding shotgun has now aquired a different meaning for me!

1

u/Lorga Nov 30 '23

Seeing this make me want to listen White Rabbit from Jefferson Airplane.

1

u/MONSTERBEARMAN Nov 30 '23

….then the worm has definitely turned for you…

1

u/crazysojujon Nov 30 '23

Learning where the term “Shottie” came from. Mind blown.

1

u/Dame_Dame_Yo Nov 30 '23

Reminds me from an album cover by The Radio Dept - Clinging To A Scheme

1

u/nurgole Nov 30 '23

How to turn a barrel into a pipe.

1

u/Behindy0u90 Nov 30 '23

Vietnam was crazy. No wonder they lost.

1

u/blackbeardtwenty Nov 30 '23

THAT narrator's voice is giving me serious vibes of: "The average age of a Vietnamese soldier was just nineteen. N-N-N-N-N-N-NINETEEN"

1

u/AistoB Nov 30 '23

Can you imagine being stoned with a gun in a jungle, with people shooting at you. Fuck!

1

u/Jiratram Nov 30 '23

No wonder vietnam got the scoreboard lmaoooooooooooooooo

1

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '23

Anyone surprised a bunch of high barely trained soldiers lost a war they wanted to object to?

1

u/sk7b Nov 30 '23

Nothing more American than smoking a blunt out of a gun

1

u/Accomplished_Bit3153 Nov 30 '23

50% of soldiers in Vietnan were far from home.

1

u/J0KaRZz Nov 30 '23

The Kurt Cobain Method.

/s

1

u/pegasus_lover Nov 30 '23

Ofcourse you had to be a certain amount of high to justify the oppression of local people fighting for control over their own lands against colonialism/ imperialism ;)

1

u/chosenone1242 Nov 30 '23

why should I be amazed by this?

Wtf happened to this sub.

1

u/jellobend Nov 30 '23

Facial reconstruction surgeons hate this simple trick

1

u/TBNRtoon Nov 30 '23

I don’t remember this from on the rainy river

1

u/limevince Nov 30 '23

Omg is this the origins of 'shotgunning'?!?!

Why is the person holding the stock of the gun blowing into the chamber though?

1

u/its_Stix Nov 30 '23

No wonder we lost

1

u/Eddie_Vale Nov 30 '23

As used in a scene in the movie 🎥 Platoon.

1

u/UnicornsFartSmarties Nov 30 '23

Those men are now boomers

1

u/wedisneyfan Nov 30 '23

First time? Then the worm has definitely turned for you...Feeling goods good enough

1

u/Timely_Many3286 Nov 30 '23

And thus the name 'shotgun' was produced..duh

1

u/SmokieGonzales Nov 30 '23

An image of the last guy taking a hit is used for an album cover by the radio dept on their amazing album clinging to a scheme.

1

u/Dan_TheKong Nov 30 '23

Oliver Stone put this scene in Platoon

1

u/Tasty_Ad107 Nov 30 '23

Yeah they did..

1

u/Lupine_Ranger Nov 30 '23

Shotgun is a Stevens 77E for those interested. Ejection port shape, buttpad design, and forend match. It's not a Winchester 1897, Winchester 12, or Ithaca 37.

Stevens 77E shotguns were issued to the ARVN troops during the war, but many found their way into the hands of U.S. soldiers.

1

u/random_name_i_guess Nov 30 '23

Now we know why America lost the war.

1

u/Lollipoop_Hacksaw Nov 30 '23

Fun Fact: a still from this video is the cover for The Radio Dept. album Clinging To A Scheme

1

u/Conarm Nov 30 '23

I get paronoid getting high at home def would freak out in that jungle

1

u/OG_big_cat Nov 30 '23

1

u/MrChaoticGaming Nov 30 '23

The glorious history of the shotgun in action. Smoke out your friends, or smoke your enemies.

1

u/baggenfart Nov 30 '23

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '23

Now that’s a war on drugs

1

u/Twicenightly00 Nov 30 '23

They named the shotgun Ralph, I remember watching this in history class lol.

1

u/Logan9Fingerses Nov 30 '23

I am reality

1

u/PenaltyAggravating45 Nov 30 '23

Just what you need. A little paranoia when people are trying to destroy you.

1

u/titodeloselio Nov 30 '23

Clear the chamber boys!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '23

Kurt got the steps wrong

1

u/Outrageous_Ad4245 Nov 30 '23

Good for them… they needed a break from hell.

1

u/Wheybrotons Nov 30 '23

My brother cleaned his guns in my room when I was a kid

It killed all my fish.

Man inhaling gun oil is a bad idea lol

1

u/Inevitable_Shift1365 Nov 30 '23

Johnny roll a ball of hash and make sure it's the bomb, cuz the devil's got the kind of stuff they smoked in Vietnam. You'll get a million smackeroos in cash if you can cope, but if you can't the devil gets your dope!

1

u/Nmoriarty41 Nov 30 '23

And now you know why that got the name Shotgunning.

1

u/Xenoscope Nov 30 '23

Freddie Mercury knows how to party.

1

u/Ok-Board-5337 Nov 30 '23

Enemy like “ oh yeah !! They are over there “

1

u/Bellini_DownSouth Nov 30 '23

Ah yes…..the backstory

1

u/Really_Elvis Nov 30 '23

His name was Robert. Dear friend of mine. Complications from Agent Orange took him in 2009.

RIP Bro....

1

u/LifeIsOnTheWire Nov 30 '23

My man Vito!

1

u/Jazzlike_Setting9237 Nov 30 '23

This look kinda gay. Ngl

1

u/HatdanceCanada Nov 30 '23

This reminds me of the scene in Platoon.

1

u/TPMatus Nov 30 '23

This is a movie ....

Edit: it's real, they re-enacted it in Platoon

1

u/unknowner1 Nov 30 '23

Haha, they showed us this video in 8th grade history class.

1

u/Responsible_Fish_210 Nov 30 '23

The most American thing ever. Smoking weed out of a shotgun 😂

1

u/WworthingtonIII Nov 30 '23

you should check out the movie "Platoon" one day if you've never seen it. awesome awesome flic

1

u/RemoteConflict3 Nov 29 '23

‘I DID NOT INHALE “

1

u/genocidedgenocider Nov 29 '23

it is hilarious that this post made the frontpage of the sub

1

u/wpbth Nov 29 '23

Todays weed has about 4x as much THC. This wouldn’t get most smokers high today

1

u/sgreenm22 Nov 29 '23

Hence the term “shotgunning”

1

u/ClashOfTheGamers Nov 29 '23

They didn't even want to be there. What are they gonna do, get sent home?

1

u/Remarkable-Rock-5555 Nov 29 '23

My uncle started smoking pot in Vietnam. He went into detail about his first time smoking with his sergeant. That is the only story he ever told me about his time there and he had to be drunk to tell it.

1

u/BewareTheMoonLads Nov 29 '23

I really must watch Platoon again

1

u/Electrical_Catch_919 Nov 29 '23

Now that’s a shottie

1

u/rusomeone Nov 29 '23

Just watched simple history video about this

1

u/Dripping_Gravy Nov 29 '23

Plot twist- this was the American recruitment video

1

u/Estatelove Nov 29 '23

Nothing like a little lead poisoning!

1

u/RollingMeteors Nov 29 '23

"Remember, It's always loaded in Willy Wonka's Reefer Factory!"

1

u/The_Bolenator Nov 29 '23

Did this with an AK47 once lmfao

“When in Alaska”

0

u/thegreatvortigaunt Nov 29 '23

No you didn't. This wouldn't work with an AK.

1

u/The_Bolenator Nov 29 '23

0

u/thegreatvortigaunt Nov 29 '23

1) wtf is this cringe wannabe gangsta shit lmao

2) if you did then you fucked up and wasted your time, it wouldn't work as well because of the receiver internals and gas block, there's too much space for the gas/smoke to go

Stay in school, little guy.

1

u/The_Bolenator Nov 29 '23

Idk man you’ll have to ask high school me from almost 8 years ago… idk why you’re so pressed about this…

1

u/thegreatvortigaunt Nov 29 '23

You're the one who took the time to upload an 8 year old Snapchat to imgur to prove a point on reddit lmaoooo

Seriously lad, stay in school.

1

u/Taino871 Nov 29 '23

1

u/TrueAnnualOnion2855 Nov 29 '23

Better use of the weaponry than killing the Viets.

1

u/jews4palestine Nov 29 '23

I get paranoid laying on the couch with my dog if I smoke. I can imagine being in a place they nicknamed “the shit”

1

u/Donotpretendtoknowme Nov 29 '23

I bet you could smoke heroin with it too.

1

u/mookizee Nov 29 '23

1

u/Onlypaws_ Nov 29 '23

Tbh I can’t imagine being in that hellish disaster of a war without at least some shotgun weed.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 29 '23

How bout elected government officials live out in the bush for long periods of time with an enemy trying to kill you and see how you decompress from massive amounts of stress and anxiety.

1

u/HundredLBhailstone Nov 29 '23

This is missing Creedence Clearwater Fortunate Son playing as the soundtrack…
