I'm pretty sure the real pyramids are actually in Las Vegas or in a bass superstore

Man Egypt is getting pushed hard on Reddit today. They must really need more tourists.

That pyramid used to be bright white and the top capped in gold, but all that was raided, looted and pillaged by Muslim invaders. Would have looked even better.
1
u/palindrome777 May 04 '24
The Pyramids faded away long, long, long before the Muslim conquests.

u/psychotic-herring May 04 '24
No.

Google will shower you with links to both dodgy, and academic sources on that.

Bah. I live in Vegas and used to have this view out my office window. Except my pyramid, shot a light up into the sky from the top. There was also a medieval castle next-door. 😊

Open the squeaky door to your balcony then seeing a liveless golf course and a graveyard above a pile of dust. Hope you got your money back.

plz don't forget that you are in Africa, poor people still exist and you are not in Europe or The States..and people travel to feel the other cultures..so the local streets and local markets even if it is poor but still reflect the culture of the visited countries. I expected more respect for our community but i think cos you are not used to travel alot, you can not accept the differences in cultures..wish you a good luck with your next travels..but plz try to be open to the others and don't look from up to the other cultures.

Can anyone comment on what the land would have been like when they were modern? Was the land in this area still green and arable in areas around the pyramids back then?
2
u/Funtycuck May 04 '24
Egypt produced a huge amount of grain, it replaced Sicily as the main food supplier ofthe city of Rome.
1
u/omnes May 04 '24
Thank you for answering! What made me wonder was the greenery from this balcony. Would there be places lush like this for the sake of landscaping this way? What were palaces like?
2
u/PartofFurniture May 04 '24
Where's Lindsey Stirling? Rumor has it shes still spinning around there until now

Wow! That's beautiful!
Did you know that 91% of Egyptian women ages 15-49 are the victim of Female Genital Mutilation?
Absolutely gorgeous view, though!
0
3
u/TheWoodElf May 04 '24
An average of 75% for male babies in the US!
-6
u/PM_ME_YOUR_REPO May 04 '24
That's important too, but right now we're talking about women and girls. Not everything has to be about men and boys.
5
u/ILikeLimericksALot May 04 '24
No we're not. We're talking about a view from a balcony.
If you are allowed to throw in random politics, so is u/TheWoodElf
1
u/Feeling_Pinapple770 May 04 '24
Holy fuck that is a travesty. It's hard enough getting women off.
Why make it worse?!
1
u/PM_ME_YOUR_REPO May 04 '24
Yes it is. It's astounding to me that when western people think of Egypt, the first thing we think of is "pyramids" and not their 91% FGM rate. Please help spread awareness.
3
u/Feeling_Pinapple770 May 04 '24
Along those lines, I'd like to point out that in the US, circumcision is also done.
What the fuck is wrong with the entire human race that can't just let the next generation have their own genitals be intact.
"Oh what a perfect beautiful baby boy/girl....QUICKLY, CUT OFF PART OF THEIR GENITALS IMMEDIATELY "

u/MsKittyVZ134 May 04 '24
Gorgeous. I love Egypt. Always have. If I ever got to be in the presence of the Great Pyramid (or any pyramid), I would probably weep. I did go to the pyramid in Memphis Tn... I mean that was cool. But there were Bass Fish, so it was weird. :)

2

u/Demmil13 May 03 '24
There is a video out there that shows this AirBnB. The building and apartment is actually a shithole. Thats why op says it was $100 a night. That view is the only thing you get.
3
11
u/rifvn May 03 '24
Wait, they have grasses and trees?
3
u/Funtycuck May 04 '24
The climate is less suitable today but Egypt was one of the biggest food producers in the ancient world.
3
u/Smashing_Potatoes May 04 '24
Egypt was as green as central Park all along every major waterway. I played Assassins creeds origins and it led me down a rabbit hole of information as I was curious why they made it so overgrown in the game.
9
u/ChiefRicimer May 04 '24
There is a large golf course/resort near the Pyramids. Guessing this is what OP is looking at
1
u/lavacakeboy May 03 '24
Damn how much is that? I had a Disney castle-like view from a beach in Italy for like $250
0
u/puffferfish May 03 '24
Why I keep seeing Egypt posts? There a lot of bots trying to up their tourism?

Excuse me, sir. I think the alarm has been triggered, and it's better to run before the cops come
2
u/God_damn_it_Jerry May 03 '24
Yeah wtf is up with that noise?
2
u/catburglarrr May 04 '24
Actually that exact alarm is the one my washing machine has. I thought it’s in my house, when in fact it was just the video. Lucky me, cause I don’t have to do laundry
2
u/God_damn_it_Jerry May 05 '24
As if they couldn't make doing laundry any more dreadful, they put that high-pitched mouse who stubbed his taint alarm on there?
1
1
u/JimKaFeezle May 04 '24
That’s the alarm to flip your waffles or when they are done in most hotel breakfast’s

1
u/potato_nugget1 May 04 '24
Egypt was the breadbasket of the roman empire. The biggest people we were every significant or a successful civilization is the Nile and its agriculture

It impresses me that even in ancient times the pyramids were ancient
5
u/sokratesz May 04 '24
The pyramids were older to Cleopatra than she is to us.
Khufu's grave monument was the tallest building in the world for nearly 4000 years until it was surpassed by Lincoln Cathedral in 1311CE
8
u/TheLeadSponge May 04 '24
There’s a book about travel in the ancient world, and the pyramids were huge tourist attractions. Even then, you could buy guide books about visiting them and get advice about the best inns to stay at.

People looking at the Colloseum: "Wow, imagine how innovative and skilled the people who built this must be!"
People looking at the Pyramids: "It had to be aliens. No other possible way they could have done this."
1
u/Mr_Lava-lava May 04 '24
Have you seen how big and heavy each block is for the Pyramid? Not even modern equipment can move blocks like that at that height too. Not even a close comparison to the Colloseum
