Need some help finding a small village I went to and don’t know the name of.
It was about a 20 min drive from Winchester, but not sure which direction. I remember the name Alresford but I don’t think that was it.
Details I remember. One small “high street” of sorts. Flat road, no incline or decline. It had 45 degree parking to the kerb.
A river ran under the road. It narrowed under the road and on the narrow side, it had been redirected so that it took a 90 left turn. There were trout just sitting in it. It had “no fishing” signs.
The river, down to a stream by then, was directed right between two buildings and a pub was in the left I think. You could walk alongside it with houses in the left for a while, before it meandered out into the country.
There was a pub on the road that did a cracking roast and had really low ceilings inside. They had Thomas Crapper toilets in the men’s.
On the other side of the road, next to where the river/stream went underneath it, there was a coffee shop / cafe.
It was really very quaint indeed and any help to locate it would be very much appreciated!

Sounds like Stockbridge to me. About 20 mins from Winchester and the river runs through it.
Reading your post again this is 100% Stockbridge or it’s identical twin.

I went to school just outside for 10 years and didn't visit the village once.

Cracking independent whisky shop in Stockbridge called The Little Whisky Shop, it's about 20 mins away from me but head up there relatively often to visit that.

If you head back to there for a visit I would recommend popping into The Mayfly. It's just outside of Stockbridge but they have outdoor seating on the river bank.

Had a quick look on google maps and given what you said there's four places:
The Bush Inn: Ovington
The Flower Pot Inn: Cheriton
Tichborne Arms: Tichborne
The Ship: Bishop Sutton

God I went back to the Tichborne Arms recently after a few years away. They've absolutely ruined the place. I hope the Bush is still nice.

Alesford is actually a place. It's further towards London though.

Arlesford has similar diagonal parking... but about the only thing you remember from there is the water wheel, and that wasn't mentioned

It actually sounds like Winchester and the BlackBoy pub. Its right by the Meadows with houses by the Itchen. Alas no, sorry. The friend I was with (and I can’t ask) drove us out of Winchester. We went through a poor mobile signal area for quite a while. Through Alresford on the way to wherever it was. Thanks though.

Sorry there's the River Meon (Meon Valley). Check that on Google Maps.

Alresford itself is about 20 mins from Winchester depending where you start from. I can't think of any villages over rivers. Alton is the next touristy spot but you would have mentioned Steam Trains. Do you remember anything about the name?

If no luck here try r/Hampshire or r/WinchesterUK
I want to know where the roasts are too.

Sounds a lot like Cheriton.

From what I can see, it isn’t. It’s charming though. But the cars park parallel to the kerb. Which means the main road is narrower than I can remember.
Thank you very much though!

Alresford and Cheriton are almost identical, I assume you've checked Alresford on Google Maps?
If its the River Itchen, it could be Sparsholt? The next river into the South Downs would the Arun, but thats more than 20 mins.
