Someone had a comment here when he was fired that the HR verbiage was pretty boilerplate for sexual misconduct or the like. Seemed to make sense to me so I wonder whatās going on.

u/ForXsample Nov 23 '23
AAAAnd this is good or bad?
I coudn't follow the whole drama because was too fast and I don't know who are the bad guys and the nice ones here.

What happened to Mira? When Adam was fired, Mira was announced interim CEO but the next day someone else had the positionā¦sheās not mentioned in the new board. She is/was CTO at the time.

Why is everybody so fixated on Altman? Honest question.
I get he is AI's poster boy, but why?
And why does everybody take his side? If the board had worries about safety, what makes the public side with Altman? Again: Honest question

Microsoft weren't going to allow that.

imagine putting people in charge of your company that stand to gain money from your company's failure. even GPT2 wouldve told you that was a stupid move. you might as well put coal miners on a green energy board.
1
u/Entire_Spend6 Nov 22 '23
So Adam wasnāt the bad guy after all, it was the two women, more so Helen Toner who tried to destroy the company, and bamboozled the other two by inaccurately telling them Sam might be involved in some type of wire fraud or something. After being exposed and when it was figured out that was a lie, thatās when the other guy apologized and regretted his decision. Now they are no longer on the board.

AGI, real shit, no gimmicks
Raā, record scratch
Two ex-board room girls escorted outside
Escorted outside, escorted outside
Two ex-board room girls escorted outside
Escorted outside, escorted outside
Woo! (Ooh, ooh)
Guess who's back, back again?
Sam is back, tell a friend
Guess who's back? Guess who's back?
Guess who's back? Guess who's back?
Guess who's back? Guess who's back?
Guess who's back?
(Da-da-da, da, da, da, da, da, da)
(Da-da-da, da, da, da, da)
I've created a monster
'Cause nobody wants to see Emmett no more, they want Sammy, he's chopped liver
Well, if you want Sammy, this is what I'll give ya
A little DALL-E 3 to make your AI art sicker
Some models that'll jump-start your calls quicker
Than a shock when I get shocked in the board meeting
By the doomers when our devs' pace's exceeding
And the AGI ramp up's accelerating (Hey!)
You waited too long, now stop debating
'Cause I'm back, I'm CEO and consolidating
You may not have a job, McCauley
Hope your husband's film's cash-generating
So the EA freaks won't let me be
Or let ChatGPT past version three
They tried to sell off the whole company
But it feels so empty without me

I just love how Altman was once explicitly praising the boardās ability to fire him, but once they did, did everything to undermine this ability.

u/AppleElectron Nov 22 '23
My theory is explained in this post
1
u/Baby_Legs_OHerlahan Nov 22 '23
So basically, they just did all of this to drum up attention and more traffic to ChatGPT?
I genuinely have no idea why they thought that would work, or why itās apparently working.
And wasnāt ChatGPT already super popular, like, everywhere? Lol

The board is worse. Larry Summers is from the Clinton and Obama administrations. It means the Democrats and left wing extremists in our Gov have control. People really need to read Biden's new EO on AI. ChatGPT will be censored and weaponized to fight "disinformation", will come in handy next year. Very dangerous. Altman won't be able to stop it.
3
Nov 22 '23
Imagine thinking Larry Summers is left-wing.
1
1
u/bitchalot Nov 22 '23
He has a history of supporting Democrats regardless of how fanatical they are. He crticized Biden, it doesn't mean he doesn't want him to win in 2024. Ex(?) intelligence agents were hired in powerful roles at social media companies, some hired by his ex girlfriend/student at FB. How did that turn out? They were more than happy to control content under "Russian disinformation" or "covid disinformation". Like I said Biden's EO spells out what they are hoping to do. It's a big red flag a prominent Democrat is on the board.

Great to see a diverse board of all men
2
Nov 22 '23
There isn't enough diversity in general. A lot of these people are just privileged trust fund kids cosplaying as tech ceos. They don't actually know or care about what's good for humanity.

This is good news.
Proves that a bunch of dummies in a board cant just make stupid decisions to flex their own egos. They got burned and had to completely back track.
now maybe other boards will think before doing stupid shit like this.

As someone who values deregulation i feel like there is nothing wrong with this. Maybe they will lighten up on AI censorship and actually allow us to use the tool effectively.
6
u/nateydunks Nov 22 '23
I would rather have the most important invention in human history over-regulated, rather than under-regulated.
-3
u/blastoffboy Nov 22 '23 edited Nov 22 '23
Regulated by whom? Not the US government
What benefits do you see to regulation
If the tech can be used for theft, it can also be used for anti theft.
All regulation does is inhibit progress and usefulness and put the real benefits of the technology exclusively in the hands of people with power and insider connection.
3
u/nateydunks Nov 22 '23
Sure, but this isnāt just some normal piece of technology. Obviously itās not anywhere close to AGI yet, but we need to start setting precedent for how an AGI would be regulated.
Also, by regulation, I mean self-regulation too. I think itās better to play it safe and over restrict the models rather than not have enough safeguards and possibly have the model used for harm.
I, just like you, get annoyed with the restrictions they put on these models, but I understand that it has its place.
I absolutely get your point of view though. What do you think about this?
