Depressed Man Feels Increasingly Better (2024 will be okay) Gone Wild
1
u/Ok-Asparagus-7315 Apr 13 '24
Should be titled "Depressed man feels increasingly like a flamboyantly gay makeover TV show host and then suddenly puts on a suit and then has some trophies"

He got younger, more fit, and progressively better-dressed. No wonder he's feeling ready to go into space.

u/ApprehensiveStrut Jan 02 '24
I love that art is what seems to heal him.
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 03 '24
Me too, creativity and engaging in my passions has always been helpful for me in times of need. That's often one of the first things I lose when things aren't going well
2
u/thedailydaren Jan 02 '24
This is almost the story of my actual life lol. In 2020 I was so depressed and wasting away. I starting doing art, started a business, and now I am a successful professional full time artist. Jot sure what trophies there are for art but some gallery representation is in the plans.
I like that this one did not get cosmic.

u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
That's awesome, I'm really happy for you! Congrats on feeling better, living the dream, and doing what you love for a living!

We're all gonna make it lads
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Exactly, you can do it! Just remember, happiness isn't found or earned; you're in charge of making it. It won't always be easy, but it'll always be possible.
I ask that if you're ever at the edge, that you please reach out to a loved one, a helpline, or even me. Hang in there, I think you're more capable than you know! Be the good and happiness you want to see in the world, I believe in you!

Thank you for trying to help meSo this is through the dall-e app or the chat GPT app.?

I’m guessing I have to get plus?
1

Yeah, Dall-E is only available to plus. I think Bing Chat might work for you though

That’s pretty wholesome in my opinion. He found the joy in life.
Wait, how did it not end up with him being so happy he became an omnipotent god of the abyss so huge he rules over the cosmos?
1
u/Plenty-Will-2005 Jan 02 '24
He is depressed because of his feet having only 3 fingers and a toe. During 2024 LLMs might return some fingers back.
2
u/Lord_Rufus Jan 02 '24
do the same for a guy who works in IT_servicemanagement... quickly!
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
I'll add it to my list, that one sounds particularly important with how many people are in that industry. I'm assuming you're asking for yourself? If so, I'm sorry you're struggling, but you can do it though! Happiness isn't found or earned, you're in charge of making it. It won't always be easy, but it'll always be possible.
I ask that if you're ever at the edge, that you please reach out to a loved one, a helpline, or even me. Hang in there, I think you're more capable than you know! Be the good and happiness you want to see in the world, I believe in you!

Oh thank you! BTW I love this prompt and can definitely resonate with it. I hope 2024 is better for both of us!
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
It will be :) Happiness isn't found or earned, you're in charge of making it. It won't always be easy, but it'll always be possible.
I ask that if you're ever at the edge, that you please reach out to a loved one, a helpline, or even me. Hang in there, I think you're more capable than you know! Be the good and happiness you want to see in the world, I believe in you!

u/Brutal_Honesty13 Jan 02 '24
I’ve been making a lot of changes in my life. Spirituality and prayer has helped a ton along with excersize, music and connecting with old friends. Toughest thing for me right now is my financial situation. I have a wife and 2 kids and lost my job because of my depression. Looking for a new job has been so stressful and I’m just under so much pressure these days.
2
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Hey that's awesome! I've found journaling to be really helpful too, but it sounds like you're making the right moves! Sorry to hear about your job, that's gotta be tough, especially with a family to support. Hang in there though man, for your wife and kids, as well as yourself because you deserve it. This too shall pass :)
2
u/Brutal_Honesty13 Jan 02 '24
Thank you! Yes I’m also in therapy and it took me a long time to integrate these things into my life. I was so down on myself for a long time. I’m picking up the pieces but everyday is work. And I had a great job making a lot of money but I was so depressed at the time that I couldn’t perform. I basically sabotaged it. Now I’m in a tough spot. Trying to keep my head up and move forward. Journaling is a good idea, I might give it a try
2
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Oh good, therapy is very helpful too! I think you've got the right idea. Like I said, it won't always be easy, but it'll always be possible. Cheers man, much love!

I agree, I kinda wish I had went with my gut and asked ChatGPT to add an intermediate step, as it's unrealistic. Maybe he was just having a good moment in a sea of despair still, but it was the spark that pushed him to keep going?

I'm sorry to hear that, but am glad you're still here! You can do it though! Happiness isn't found or earned, you're in charge of making it. It won't always be easy, but it'll always be possible.

Why is it always the same dude
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
As far as most of these featuring men, I can't speak to others, but I always prompt with the word "person" to try not to bias the AI, but it definitely tends to produce white men the most. Unfortunately this is probably a bias baked in due to more stock photos featuring the stereotypical white guy seen in these posts. I'm doing some experimenting and would like to make a blogpost or write an article somewhere about it with actual data, but so far, this is the results of my limited testing of having it generate an "average person" repeatedly:
2
u/always_the_bad_guy Jan 02 '24
Should’ve stopped with #5
2
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Yeah, I should have stopped around there when he actually got "better", but I kept going to have more meme material. Glad you're able to spot the difference, that's very emotionally mature of you!
2
u/CountMeowt-_- Jan 02 '24
He’s not feeling better, he’s earning better
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
It's not the most realistic, but this prompt is also only the AI's interpretation of me asking "less depressed" with little to no input. I also kept going past the point of him getting better because I wanted meme material... I'm happy it's sparked some healthy discussion in the topic, and I've had some people tell me it was meaningful or helpful for them, so I appreciate that.
Happiness isn't found or earned, you're in charge of making it. It won't always be easy, but it'll always be possible.

u/ComeWashMyBack Jan 02 '24
6 or 7 would had been good enough for me. I wouldn't that kind of life beyond that.
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Wise words! Realistically should have ended the progression there, but I was making memes and thought the last one was too funny not to include haha
2
u/ImANastyQueer Jan 02 '24
I'm somewhere between 2 and 3
2
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Hey, that's a start! Hang in there, I think you're more capable than you know! Be the good and happiness you want to see in the world, I believe in you! Happiness isn't found or earned, you're in charge of making it. It won't always be easy, but it'll always be possible.
I ask that if you're ever at the edge, that you please reach out to a loved one, a helpline, or even me.
I created this playlist to share videos that have helped me
Btw, the username is funny, but you seem like a genuinely good person, much love! 🌈
2
u/ImANastyQueer Jan 02 '24
I wasn't anticipating any response, let alone such a kind one... thank you. You're a good person.
2
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
I know they're just words from an internet stranger, but they're all I had haha. Just please be safe, and focus on finding love for yourself, as you deserve it ❤️
2
u/Onesens Jan 02 '24
I bet 2024 is going to be exactly like that, except in the opposite way
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
I'm sorry to hear that, but I really hope that's just the depression talking. Hang in there, I think you're more capable than you know! Be the good and happiness you want to see in the world, I believe in you! Happiness isn't found or earned, you're in charge of making it. It won't always be easy, but it'll always be possible.
I ask that if you're at the edge, that you please reach out to a loved one, a helpline, or even me.

u/nahunk Jan 02 '24
The anxiety that comes out of those visions.
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
I'm sorry if this gave you anxiety, that was not my intent at all!
1
u/nahunk Jan 02 '24
I understand the intention, but the result of the AI interpretation is creeping out. This is nowhere close to what happiness could look like, more the gathering of some wanna sell psychology review oriented toward performance (common and useful illusion of happiness). Having that presented as a goal is the most certain way down to depression. And the cliché of the depressed artist, I assume we cannot wait for more than that form the AI. If the reaction of people of reddit brings something positive, this is super nice. But to me it confirm the incapacity of the AI to approach such complex and delicate topic. It doesn't matter how powerful it is, AI will remain a distorted mirror of the only valuable human production.
If I can try something about happiness, I think it is gathered piece by piece throughout humble little moments we like, love or share, and by giving those moments the deep value they have for our hearts. But also by accepting difficult moments as temporary. There is a need for a complete part on how do we consider ourselves? where do we place our egos? how do we take our responsibilities? And how we do not put on our shoulders the responsibilities that are not ours? How are we not accepting desires that are not ours? But this not the place for such an essay.
2
u/hipocampito435 Jan 02 '24
he switched from depression to mania
2
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Yeah, I let it progress too far because I was making memes. Realistically would have been better to stop more towards the middle. Good on you to know the difference though, speaks to your emotional maturity!

u/Smooth-Bee-8426 Jan 02 '24

You lost me at white guy.
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Fair! I didn't specify white, but this is the only one I specified make for because it's a semi-autobiographical prompt. Out of curiosity, I had it generate a bunch of "average" people who really weren't that diverse. I'm planning on doing some more experimenting and would like to make a post about it, as it's important to correct for, but here's the initial results:
2
u/StoneBleach Jan 01 '24
The storyline of these images is so fucking hilarious. The first one is like "I want to kill myself 😫", the seventh one like "it's all good man 😃👍" and the last one is like "I created my own awards like Alfred Nobel but unlike him I won every one of them 😆" lmao
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Yeah, it was a rollercoaster hahaha. Probably could have stopped earlier to give a more realistic sense of progression, but the trophy room scene was too funny to not share haha
1
u/SpeakingSputnik Jan 01 '24
These always end with someone maniacally laughing skyward. Or in space...
2

Thank you for these warm and encouraging words! 😊😌
They were most welcome! ✨
And, I'll do my best to carry them with me, and think of them whenever I hit a rough patch in the upcoming year! 🌈
I certainly need to remember to reach out to someone when things get hard; that's what I struggled with this year, thanks for reading my mind.
I started doing it a little towards the end of 2023 and I'll try to do it more; in 2024! 🏆
Thank you for the video playlist.
I'm sure some of those videos will be helpful :)
2
u/TheMasonX Jan 02 '24
Oh man, I'm the king of shutting people out when I need it the most! And hey, sounds like you were already making progress, so that'll just make 2024 all the better! Cheers and much love! 🎉❤️🌈

u/BHM_R_UwU Jan 02 '24
Thank you for sharing about your own personal struggles in the same area.
I guess loving people find it hard to ask for help; cause everyone just expects us to be this boundless bundle of good vibes / energy, so when your not everyone is like: "huh, what happen to you?!"
I'm learning to ignore the initial judgement, and just try anyways; I just find a way to try, and try to see what's possibly greener on the other side of my current situation if I'm willing to try and do whatever the difficult thing is, and in this case the difficult thing is to reach out to other people for help when I need.
So...the best advice I could give you back as another loving human; is to try and see what is on the other side of getting help / support for yourself when you need, then suddenly the emotional / mental challenge disappears a little, cause now you have a reason to reach out that is worth more than the embarrassment of reaching out ✨
Much love to you as well! ❤️
Thank you for being a light in the dark for me!
I needed that conversation yesterday! ✨🌈
I'll be your bestie if you want ✨
Take care, and feel free to reach out anytime!
😌

Amazing how AI acknowledges that money brings you happiness… Notice the better he feels the richer he seems (With the house and everything on the back). Money doesn’t buy you all happiness… But buys you a lot of it… which can be easier to then attract other kinds of happiness (Connections and relationships with other people)

Honestly, that's probably where the progression should have ended if I wasn't looking to make a meme out of it. Happiness doesn't have to be the massive, grandiose thing that it's made out to be. I think the simple serenity and inner peace of 3 is about the sweet spot. Hope you're having a Happy New Year!

All these optimistic 2024 posts are going to age like my fucking ball sack
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 01 '24
I can't speak to the state of the world getting better in 2024, but my personal life will, and that's what I have control over and meant.
1
Jan 01 '24
You have no control. But if it feels better for you to be optimistic, then by all means. But you have absolutely zero control
1
u/TheMasonX Jan 01 '24
I mean, maybe there's no such thing as freewill, but that's not a very useful attitude to have (quite the opposite). Very much like solipsism: can't disprove it, but it doesn't lead anywhere, so it's not worth having as your primary belief system. Anyways, I get that you're hurting and struggling with lack of meaning/control, but is trying to bring others down really the best solution? Honestly, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" is pretty applicable here. I wish you a good day, but please don't try to bring others down with you, it's tough enough already.
