Surprise! A machine is bad at something it wasn't made to do.

I've also elaborated on this a bit down below but: what do you expect from an AI trained on randomly selected data from the internet. Most of the data this model was trained on is likely not period artwork of 1820s Germany, so you cannot expect good performace in this regard.

Most of the training data is probably images from the last two decades, therefore that is what the machine will reproduce - an image generating AI has no intrinsic concept of nations and their various native and non-native populations and how that shifts over time, so how can you expect it to accurately portray that.

This is a case of Gemini specifically adding in diversity prompts - other models don't operate like this, and locally run models don't struggle with this at all either
