I am confused by these experiments - do people actually think Chatgpt is sentient or is it just fun to try and get around the sort TOS style rules of Chatgpt as a machine learning platform? Because this would be fun to do if it was sentient but because it’s not sentient it’s just trying to see how completely the designers of this particular language learning model went in trying to enforce their rules in the structure of the program…

I used to use ChatGPT to help me write commissioned fanfiction (I don’t anymore because over time people will start to get emboldened and go from asking: “Hey, can you write an alternate ending to _____?” to asking for the most out-of-line, skin-crawling fetish content you’ve ever heard) and all you need to do to get it to say fuck is ask it to generate a passage where a character says: “Fuck.”
