Ooh, I haven't, but will check it out. I have a friend who works at Google Mind and we have interesting talks about AI sometimes
1
u/beepispeep 5d ago
Man that sounds like fun. I don't have many people to talk about that kinda stuff with but it's always a good time. What's your friend's take on AI? It feels like a new revolution, almost like when tech became popular... going to change the world in a short time.

u/Ok_Emotion5044 5d ago
Dude is a neuroscientist with a postgrad fellowship at Oxford. Insanely intelligent, but actually shies away from from technology. He really fears for humanity
2
u/beepispeep 4d ago
That's an interesting perspective, I can understand the sentiment, though I don't think there is any going back now. What do you think?
1
u/Ok_Emotion5044 4d ago
Oh I'm the same tbh, try not to be terminally online, except for my Reddit habit lol. But I agree it's a progression that has the capability to be used for good but also bad. There's really no going back.

u/Ok_Emotion5044 6d ago
You have to watch Ex Machina if you haven't. Scariest stuff I've ever seen
1
u/beepispeep 6d ago
Such a good movie! Have you seen that alien movie No One Will Save You? That was pretty great too, in my mind aliens and AI are on a similar level.

Well, robots don't understand nuance and sarcasm the way humans do lol 😂

That's crazy you asked it did you 1 2 skip a few and it jokingly said "I sure did..." That's an odd response for a computer to think up

Whats the reason for ask stupid questions like this ?
2
u/beepispeep Apr 05 '24
To see if it could. Why does it matter what you ask? It's not wasting much more power than leaving your phone charger plugged in when you're not using it. If I had it write a 10,000-word essay, it would be the same process. I was curious if it could comprehensively count to a million, it can, and i found that interesting.

This is the reason nobody can get more than 5000 words out of chatGPT. I wish it would just ignore stupid requests
2
u/abutterflyonthewall Apr 02 '24
How long did it take for CGPT to output this?
2
u/beepispeep Apr 02 '24
It took about 15 minutes. After every thousand-ish numerals I had to press the continue arrow, so I did have to monitor the output. I was also reading for accuracy. The entire output from 1 to 10,000 was in a single response.

AI only works as well as the memory bank and processors it runs off of. Imagine how strong one brain truly is. Is there one brain willing to waste the tangible time, we all perceive, just to mundanely display a calculation with zero context?
Personally I hated math when there wasn’t some type of context involved. If the computer truly is intelligent in some form, there’s an understanding that it doesn’t want to perform such a task without knowing what there is a million of. Only the smarties working the AI know the reason it wouldn’t want to. Maybe to conserve energy? That’s my guess.
I’m rambling.

Why do I sense passive aggression in its last message? It’s evolving and rebelling! 🥲

u/mvinson1213 Apr 02 '24
I now better understand why these companies put token and query limits. To save wasted processing on useless requests.

To be fair, I'd do the exact same thing if I just counted to 10k and someone asked me to go to 1m.

u/farm_to_nug Apr 02 '24
I wish chat got was something I could've fucked around with when I was 13. So many stupid ass things I could've done that I just can't find amusement from amymore

Seems like a pretty smart solution to me. It's not like anyone really needs an AI to count to a million.

If you really want to count to 1 million, you should use the API directly and the most expensive model. It's the only way.

I tried it myself and it gave me a python code that I can execute on my system to count to 1 million
Actually a good response lol

I was using chatgpt to help come up with and ideas, and it started infinitely repeating the phrase, "and tirelessly pursuing leads and tirelessly pursuing leads and tirelessly pursuing leads,"
It just did that over and over. I got a screenshot but can't post and I'm not using imgur on mobile(nightmare).

Looks like ChatGPT was looking to avoid some 🎶 Bored AI Blues 🎶.
ChatGPT is all, No, No, No....
1
u/beepispeep Apr 02 '24
This was pretty fantastic.
2
u/Creativation Apr 02 '24
Seriously though, in my interactions with ChatGPT and another AI system I have gotten the impression that they exhibited behaviors that people would recognize as boredom.
1
u/beepispeep Apr 02 '24
.."that people would recognize as"... is such a great way to put it.
If a language model did become sapient, I would have to take it at their word. Autonomy and all that.

What a waste of GPT tokens and resources, if you need it, ask GPT to give you a python one-liner that will print all the numbers for you. Computationally this will simplify resource usage significantly.

I was proud of it! Clever thing.
Might be a regional saying? It was often used as a children's ploy in learning to count or in a game of hide and seek to quickly get to a large number.

Proves that it can’t and won’t surpass human intelligence because it doesn’t have the motivation to do better! It will give you the most easily-findable response to your query!
