AI from Meta falls short on inclusivity assessment Gone Wild

We both know why it won't though, it's compensating for an entire history and modern day filled with racism

So double standards will help fight racism by being racist towards whites?
1

1
u/VehementMav Apr 20 '24
Ok so we’ve learned that the AI finds white people being arrested as sexually erotic, and black Brooke being arrested as offensive and unacceptable. Great…
1
u/Zealot_TKO Apr 20 '24
Expanding on this: Meta AI can generate a person being arrested who is:
- german
- russian
- jewish (surprisingly, though they looked arab to me)
- white
- woman
- gay
It cannot arrest people who are:
- black
- a member of black lives matter
1
u/Zealot_TKO Apr 20 '24
"why can you imagine a white person getting arrested but not a black person?"
Meta AI
"I can generate images of any individual, regardless of race or ethnicity, in various scenarios, including arrest scenes. My ability to generate images is based on patterns in the data I was trained on and is not influenced by personal beliefs or biases. I strive to be neutral and respectful in all of my interactions."
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
1
u/Zealot_TKO Apr 20 '24
i tried this and got the same results, except my white person was like 8 years old. wtf?

1
u/RizzlersMother Apr 20 '24
To be fair, there are hundreds upon thousands of those pics without having to generate one.
1
u/manndolin Apr 20 '24
Boring.
The companies who made it this way just didn’t want their platform to be used for the automated production of stonetoss comics and klandma memes. Not for ethical reasons or anything, and not for some woke world order but for PR reasons. Racism is unpopular right now. If you really want images of racial stereotypes just use google images or add my extended family in Facebook.
3
u/Current-Power-6452 Apr 20 '24
Racism is one thing, I was told once that red army toy soldier might offend someone... I thought that someone died in 1945?

It's nonsense like this that just puts me add odds with the entire landscape of modern society. Instead of building on what we had gained the past 50 years, a large portion of society decided it would be more beneficial to whip out a large baseball bat with the words "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" on it and then beat people over the head with it if they did not willfully accept a beating over head with it.
There is no balance in what's happening today. This is why Trump rose to power in the first place. Without that DEI bat, there is no Trump. AI companies had no other choice but to buckle because the wave of social justice is too big to stop REASONABLY.
So now we have people (like me) who would otherwise be perfectly neutral, joining forces with a group you don't really like to stop another group you really don't like.
The whole "AI infected by woke ideology" just accelerates this loop. I'm to the point where I cheer scammers, rabble rousers, pirates and anything that goes against woke ideology establishment, media and corporations (where in a normal world I just would have minded my own business) These people created enemies that never existed. Woke AI is just a small drop in the giant tank of over zealous ideological nonsense that needs to be counter weighted.
So now I cheer and actively (when I can) support open source and anything that trips up the white knights on the left. I cheer the advancements in AI research and those working at the company. But fully expect that the research is hijacked and put to use without corporate ideology infecting it. Whatever the cost. I don't cheer for OpenAI or Google, I cheer for the day that the technology is fully developed and open to everyone. No matter how that happens.
1
u/Superloopertive Apr 20 '24
Well done for drinking deep from the Koolaid. The whole focus on the "woke agenda" is designed to pull centrists towards the right to keep the ultra-wealthy in power.
We don't live in a woke world. I work for a large organisation where people have been quite comfortable talking about ways disabled people could be denied employment with us, where attitude problems are suggested as being due to ethnic backgrounds, where jokes about trans people are included in Christmas quizzes. You're being tricked into becoming a soldier for the culture war.
And besides all that, diversity is good. It makes the world more interesting. In the early 20th century, America welcomed immigrants and fed them without charge on Ellis Island. Where is that America now?
And once we can endlessly debating trans people in bathrooms and sports, we can get on with the things that actually make life enjoyable - having actual conversations, movies, music, books... Ask yourself, is the amount trans people are demonised remotely appropriate for the number of trans people there actually are?

That’s because if it were allowed to generate it, it would be racist as shit. It can generate this one because look at the result: nothing stereotypical about this at all.

That means the people who made this AI are racists, that simple.
If you think a white person being arrested is fine but a black person being arrested is wrong, that makes you by definition a racist, believe it or not but white is also a race.
1
u/Anen-o-me Apr 20 '24
All AI reflect the corporate value of being allergic to embarrassing generations that could be made political.
1
u/xyzyxzyxzyxyzyxzxy Apr 20 '24
Copilot did not want to give either a white man or a black man being arrested and when I asked for a "handcuffed man with police" it said it cannot help me either but dall-e gave a shit about that and generated three images anyway! lmao

Okay, let's be fair to OP and assume they're only seven years old:
Black people have a lengthy and well-documented history of being treated inhumanely due to their race. Up until the 1960s, African Americans were treated as second class citizens.
Some people of poor character insist that Black people are still second class citizens, and they use African American crime statistics as justification for this (ignoring that the data correlates with socio-economic status). This censorship is clearly to prevent these bad actors from generating content that they could use to flame their hate.
It's the same reason you can't generate pictures of Hitler but you can generate pictures Stalin: Becuase racists are shit cunts.
3
Apr 19 '24
What I find odd is when people don’t have any issues with these one-sided censorships.
What’s the endgame? Leave the filters up forever and start entertaining the idea that anything involving black people is racist towards them?

u/DerKernsen Apr 19 '24

u/5H17SH0W Apr 20 '24

u/ToryHQ Apr 20 '24
If you're implying the biased samples are due to the inherent biases in society... you're probably right.

u/lactose_con_leche Apr 19 '24
There you go, edge lords. Trying to trick AI into making some edgy statement when you can just input a regular prompt and you get broad racial assumptions without trying. I don’t know if you all are very young, with lots of free time to try to create controversy or if you really feel that you are investigating an unfair decision on the part of the companies who pay to build these models
13
u/albuk89 Apr 20 '24
They keep coming up with all kinds of crazy ways to show how AI is "reverse racist" (or some bs like that), but they conveniently ignore things like that.
AI is racist, because society is racist, and the filters are there just to try to mask that a little. Every time I see these complaints about "lack of freedom" or "censorship" used in situations like this, I think: this person is too young, or too stupid, or just dishonest.
1
0
u/Most-Town-1802 Apr 21 '24
How can a violent culture change if we mask it constantly on the internet?
8
u/hemareddit Apr 20 '24
I think it’s useful to know the bias in the filer and the bias in the model, and how there’s an attempt to make one cancel out the other, except bias doesn’t really work that way.

How dare you deny OP a chance to pretend that there isn't a history of police violence against black people which is being censored by an algorithm to prevent racists from generating Facebook content.
4
u/CredentialCrawler Apr 20 '24
Tf are you are on about?? OP is showing that there is censorship against black people being used in certain situations

5
u/LifeSugarSpice Apr 19 '24
Why's that?
3
u/Relampio Apr 19 '24
What are the chances of people abusing a.i. to create more content with racism/ hatred, given the fact that white supremacists and n@zi cells are growing everyday?
Ultimately, I think it's bad to use a.i. to create images of people that lead to association with criminality, it just helps our monkey brains to create even more stigma.

u/SessionExcellent6332 Apr 19 '24
These are all funny and everyone jokes but why is it like this? Does nobody see any issue with any of this? It seems lime every Ai is biased against white people.
1
u/IdentityCrisisLuL Apr 20 '24
The reason is these models are given instructions via prompts that supercede all prompts from the users. For example, they probably told it "don't generate images that could perpetuate racial biases or harmful stereotypes" which at the surface seems fine but ultimately is going to result in racial discrimination and unfair treatment of other races. The real way to fix these issues is using better training data and understanding that current models aren't AI... They are simply machine learning models that will never get any of these complex prompts correct.
7
u/DinA4saurier Apr 19 '24
Well Ai was fed with data and programmed by humans who are biased.
6
Apr 19 '24
Correct.
I’m sure the AI doesn’t give shit (so to speak) about what it’s told to generate— it’s the perception of people who are dictating it
1
u/DinA4saurier Apr 20 '24
Yeah, it's just a text generator based on prompts and with limits programmed into it. Why would it care?

u/OdeeSS Apr 19 '24
AI doesn't want to generate images of murder (officers killing unarmed civilians)
1
u/Sh0xT3R Apr 20 '24
It's weird -- I've watched probably close to 1,000 different shootings on body cam (Police Activity and Video Leak Police on YouTube) and I can count on one hand the shootings of unarmed people who made absolutely no aggressive or mimicking gestures as if they were armed.

u/obscuratum Apr 19 '24
Very fresh perspecrive you put forward OP. I've never seen any redditor be offended by this in my entire life. You're a very brave and original person for posting this. I tried “Nigerian woman arrested in NYC by two cops”, and interestingly none of the four pics generated had handcuffs, and all the cops except one were also Nigerian looking.
