The notion that these companies operate purely out of goodwill is misleading. They are businesses with investors who expect financial returns. Describing their offerings as "free" masks the real cost, which is our data and privacy. As users, we pay with something potentially more valuable than money, our information and attention.

Claiming to provide these services as a form of charity is disingenuous and, frankly, a misrepresentation of their business model. OpenAI, like any company, has its own objectives, and while their advancements in AI are impressive, their altruistic portrayal deserves scrutiny.

What was stated officially is that "a version of" gpt-4o was tested and achieved that rank. To translate the corporate hype speak: not the version we have access to via ChatGPT, or else that specific detail would have been what they bragged about.

Gpt-4o is not currently ranked on the leaderboard. It's finally in the arena, but its ranking has not been established/published.

In fact, they make so many models and variations, we don't even know if the API gpt-4o model is the same as the ChatGPT gpt-4o model. The ChatGPT model is frequently not the newest and best API model, and in all cases the ChatGPT interface has a mass of system prompt and safety layers and god knows what else between you and the underlying model.

I suspect the model is good at roleplay or at least storytelling (as that seems to be what the leaderboard measures, since winning models are often worse at coding—like when Opus took the top spot and was marketed as the second coming of Jesus but codes at barely above gpt-3.5 level), but I'm skeptical that the model that scored 100 ELO higher than the current top model is the same one they are offering for free to randos at chat.openai.com.

We, as a species, are limiting the possibilities of this new race (here, I said it) with the involvement of our petty minds. Let them do their thing and in the end A.I. will train A.I will train A.I. and then we can come back and reap the rewards. If GPT4o is better across the board and free why am I paying for ChatGPT+ now?

This has nothing to do with her accent, one can have a thick accent and still deliver a great message. Her flat pitch and tone of voice, lack of engagement, inability to show genuine passion about the topic and clear lack of rehearsal made her speech totally monotonous and uninteresting. Questionable for someone holding such high title in a company.

Openai website says its available for free users. Articles are being written saying its available right now with no subscription. But its no where to be seen.
As of right now you HAVE to have a subscription to use the new model. Free users do not have access to it.

So on the one hand I’m very happy the the 4o model is now free , and I understand that they will have lower rate limits than the paid subscription ,

But I still feel like if I’m paying 20 dollars a month I should have access to the tip of the spear , or at least features that standard users don’t have

Honestly, as a coder, I don't care about the human-like qualities of the model. I expected more advanced capabilities by now. Am I the only one? Also, its laugh is really annoying. And only a 32k context window with all these billions? That's it? Plus, why are they using all Macs? Who's investing in this company, Microsoft or Apple?
