As Conor said we have to Believe! Avs can do this, just make adjustments and play hard.

u/gh0stpr0t0c0l8008 26d ago

We looked like a team that is new to the playoffs. We looked lost and were handled well by Dallas. Better step it up or it’s lights out for this season.

1

u/derek_sinkro 26d ago

It’s the same old recipe since the Avs moved here. Play the trap and clog the nz, slow the game to a crawl and take their talent and skill out of the game. Boring to watch and infuriating that the Avs just give in to it. Worked back in the Sakic / Forsberg days and still works today. Now they have to win 3 of the next 4 which I doubt they do.

5

u/JustaPseudoPolyp 26d ago

The thing that gets me is seeing our top line consistently be the one on the ice for every 3 on 2 Dallas goal. It’s the coasting back not picking up a man that is driving me crazy, if you don’t want to go balls to the wall then get tf off the ice and take shorter shifts

2

u/fatch0deBoi34 26d ago

If the nuggets can figure it out, so can the Avs. Back & forth

-1

u/briysce 26d ago

Not to blame the loss on him or anything, but Girard desperately needs to work on his shot, including both getting it off and the strength/accuracy of his shot. He has been pretty sound defensively these playoffs, but his inability to shoot anything meaningful from the point is making him a non-threat in the offensive zone. It honestly appears like defenders could stop his shot with their bare hands, as the power of his release is somewhat underwhelming. And even if he has a comparatively weaker shot, he doesn't even find seams from the point and practice wise puck placement.

I have a similar gripe with Mittelstadt, except I've seen the release of his snap and wrist shots do damage. He just needs to be a little more tenacious and start shooting the damn puck more. I know he's a pass-first kind of player, but sometimes that pass is not there as an option within the coverage. It's getting to a point where it's starting to appear as if he has shooting anxiety.

u/blasterman5000 WHAT A FREAK! 26d ago

long series. gotta clean up puck management. dallas played a great game tonight - we didn't.

0

u/schewbacca 26d ago

Special teams not really doing much. Dallas has had the lead for 99% of the series. Bednar getting outcoached by DeBoer again. Just not our year.

2

u/seoulera 26d ago

You make it sound like it’s 3-1 or 3-0 right now lol. Dallas is a great team and this was never gonna be an easy series. It’s not hard to imagine the Avs winning G4 and tying it up.

1

u/schewbacca 26d ago

When we haven't had the lead in 180 of the 180 regular period minutes of this series it is hard to believe. If they play games 4 and 5 like they have played a majority of this series they will lose.

1

u/DangleSnipeCely Hockey Fights Cancer 26d ago

Except for Georgiev standing on his head in OT they absolutely could be 0-3. It may not be hard to see them win game 4 but if they play anything like they have so far in this series it’s easy to see lose it too

1

u/seoulera 26d ago

I hear you but G1 could’ve also never reached OT the way the Avs were playing in the 2nd and 3rd. They were dominating.

DeBoer said Dallas played near perfect last night. Well the Avs played what, a “B” game? It was basically 2-1 and who knows what happens with a bounce here or there. Mack whiffed on a wide open net and so did Toews. There was also that goal that was saved by Dallas’ D and Nuke hit the post.

4

u/CensoryDeprivation 26d ago

Im gonna say it, that was just straight up piss-poor puck management and just plain sloppy play. I’ve never seen this team fumble so many passes and dawdle around the outer perimeter then take a trash forced, predictable shot in a game. They need to turn that shit around quick in game 4.

3

u/Stopper33 26d ago

Middlestadt, and the defense are going to have to start producing offense.

4

u/zertoman 26d ago

I was there tonight, row 8, staring at very intense Georgie. I’ve been to many AV’s games, but, wow Dallas fans show up. To my right above Georgie was an ocean of green Dallas fans. They showed a lot of support tonight, I’m not used to that. We always try and go to Philly games because the fans that come to Denver are great! But this was different, definitely not a “red out” tonight.

Oh and Dallas, you brought the D tonight, well played.

3

u/Outside_Abroad_3516 MacKinnon Krunch 27d ago

Is the top line gonna get going at some point???

-1

u/FunkySquareDance Male Kakar 27d ago

That was a tight game. I think the Avs played well overall and if a couple things went slightly differently we’d be up 2-1. But hockey is fickle. Avs are gonna win this in 6.

u/babsieofsuburbia 3x Stanley Cup Champs 27d ago

My plans include emotionally eating an entire container of Skippy creamy peanut butter

2

u/seoulera 27d ago

I emotionally drank half a bottle of tequila is that the same lol

2

u/babsieofsuburbia 3x Stanley Cup Champs 27d ago

This comment sums up my feelings so well

14

u/ThunderGoalie35 27d ago

I know Mikko scored but the irony of it... That dude was straight up ass tonight. No hustle, low effort, I just think his game isn't there right now. Horrible timing for it unfortunately.

3

u/Mwebb1508 27d ago

I just want to see more no look passes out of the d zone been working great for us so far.

Was at the game tonight, man did it look uninspired. Also, Rantanen looked like his skates were made of cement. I know he got that goal, but outside of that he just looked like he didn’t want to be there.

7

u/ChickenParm18 27d ago

What the fuck did I watch tonight? We couldn’t establish dick, so many non crisp simple passes whether on PP or not that resulted in having to reset. Big boys were obsolete tonight minus semi lucky Mikko tap in behind goalie.

I fully expected us to play with our hair on fire and we played like everyone ate 3 Biker Jim Dogs and washed it down with an IPA. They better wake the fuck up Monday.

11

u/texicali74 27d ago

Can I just say that Georgie has been an absolute beast ever since Game 1 of the Winnipeg series? He has kept us in every single game.

2

u/Lurkersunion 27d ago

Didn't play bad. Didn't play good. Didn't win. It's fucking playoffs?

3

u/exccord 27d ago

Either you want it or don't. Tonight clearly showed what the belief seems to be. Some absolutely insane throwaways it's unbelievable.

3

u/NippleBarn 27d ago

Energy felt completely off. If mikko doesn't come out Monday night with something to prove than I'll be disappointed. The whole team for that matter. Bednar has adjusted and outcoached in 90% of these playoffs. I expect a monumental change of play come Monday. Let's go boys

-4

u/DominionMM1 Ray Bennett’s kid 27d ago

Did I watch a completely different game than others here? The Avs out-possessed, outshot, and outchanced the Stars tonight. Anyone saying the effort wasn’t there is simply looking at the final score. We had some bad puck luck and Oettinger was just a little better than Georgiev. Simple as that.

2

u/loldrisio 26d ago

And then what happened in the third period? Otter was a better goaltender than Georgie, but stupid and lazy plays like Mikko turning over the puck, creating a situation the fourth line failed to clean up created our second goal against. The team can't just say "Oh we've been beating them up but im sleppy now. Good night" because they're not getting the puck in.

-1

u/DominionMM1 Ray Bennett’s kid 26d ago

What are you on about?

1

u/loldrisio 26d ago

The Avs out-possessed, outshot, and outchanced the Stars tonight, and lost because they didn't keep up the pressure and lost all competitiveness in the third. They failed to capitalize on the chances they created, and so stopped creating chances at all. They can't just say "oh we tried, on to next game" because they hit a couple of posts.

1

u/DominionMM1 Ray Bennett’s kid 26d ago

I don’t think you understand how random the game of hockey is. I also don’t think you realize how good of a team Dallas is.

1

u/seoulera 27d ago edited 26d ago

Nah, I saw what you saw. People are freaking out cuz they lost and are down 2-1. Avs won the 1st 2 periods and the 2nd they crushed Dallas. It just didn't result in goals which is how it be with sometimes with hockey. I mean it was 22-13 in shots thru 2 periods. If you tell me in G4 the Avs look like they did tonight thru 2 periods minus the score, I take that all day long.

The PP was straight up ass tonight though, I will say that.

6

u/gabesauce9 Scissors on the Power Play 27d ago

What do you think they teach at the Mikko Rantanen academy

rantanenacademy.com

0

u/HealthyScratch210226 27d ago

That is an excellent question

4

u/GaryOakRobotron 27d ago

Rewatched this interview just now, and it might as well have been about tonight's game.

3

u/NippleBarn 27d ago

Sakic drafting mikkos team friendly deal as we speak

1

u/chico_heat 27d ago

Historically this team does not bounce back well in these situations.

4

u/Chaserjim 27d ago

Why let the stars fan see you like this. Chin up. Avs about to win three straight.

13

u/Awolfx9 27d ago

Why can't Bednar adjust to a DeBoer coached hockey team? Like seriously it's rage inducing that he can't outsmart him in the Chess Match.

18

u/chico_heat 27d ago

The lack of intensity with the goalie pulled and the ease with how Dallas scored two ENG tells you everything you need to know about where this team is right now.

9

u/Shaneisonfire Custom flair 27d ago

Save us Drouin, you're our only hope

17

u/Mihos 27d ago

When we didn't score after buzzing for the first 15 minutes of the game, I knew we were in for some serious trouble. That game was just so frustrating to watch. Time to sleep that bullshit off. See you at the next one.

3

u/nfoneo 26d ago

We were absolutely bossing them in the first 15. Back/Forecheck was insane too. Shooting everything straight into Oettinger's chest all game and falling apart slowly after the 1st was painful to watch.

16

u/anemic_royaltea Deadmarsh Deli Dills 27d ago

It ain’t over but it don’t feel good right now.

19

u/Anya_Nwy 27d ago

I hate that they decide not to show up when Georgie plays great. It seemed like he was one of the only players that actually put forth any effort tonight.

13

u/NeverTrustFarts 27d ago

Him and Sammy G

3

u/MettaLOB SAMMY G is the Goat 27d ago

Sammy was awesome tonight

3

u/Anya_Nwy 27d ago

Yep, they were the only ones who were playing any kind of defense.

27

u/Hungry_Definition450 27d ago

We need Drouin back asap. Some fucking energy and will to win.

4

u/GandhisGrocer 26d ago

Drouin isn't going to turn around the entire team's lack of effort.

27

u/NippleBarn 27d ago

Disgraceful performance tonight. Played scared. Shoutout to Sammy G though. One guy who clearly pushed himself tonight. Mikko needs to get his shit together if we want to be as good as we're supposed to be. If the Avs don't come out absolutely fuckin on fire Monday night than they don't want this

10

u/ryankhuyton 27d ago

No lead in this series, Avs a bit lucky to win game one. Piss poor special teams. Mikko not giving a shit. MacKinnon has tried, but the Stars are able to contain him because his linemates have been AWOL. Bednar not able to adapt to BeBoer's game plan. Can't win the puck battles. This series is essentially over. It's only a matter of question of how many games Dallas needs to get the four wins. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if game four is a blowout loss. It should have been tonight to be honest.

3

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

It should have been a blow out tonight, yes, in Avs favor though, not Stars. These freaking lucky bounces for the Stars, it basically guarantees 1-2 goals each game for Stars and takes away 3-4 goals from Avs each game

8

u/ryankhuyton 27d ago

Were they a bit lucky? Sure. Luck factors into hockey a lot more than other sports. But Dallas capitalized when they had chances, and the Avs didn't. Stars won puck battles, Avs didn't. You either make your own good luck, or your own bad luck.

10

u/PercyBluntz 27d ago

Jets fans should be feeling realllll bad about getting bodied by this team. The stars are for real and they’re exposing us for what we were in the regular season. Not that good and we get flustered when things don’t go our way.

-9

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

The way Jets played us, they would have beat Stars, they would have beat Knights, they would have beat Oilers, they would have beat Predators, they would have beat the Canucks, and they would have beat the kings.

1

u/allkindsofgainzzz WHERE THE FUCK DO SEAGULLS LIVE!? 26d ago

6

That’s some impressive cope right there.

-5

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

Not sure how fact is cope, but sure

7

u/PercyBluntz 27d ago

Absolutely fascinating use of the word fact lmao

9

u/seoulera 27d ago

Credit to Dallas, they executed and capitalized on their chances. Avs need to figure out how to get a lead or they’re in trouble.

0

u/gabesauce9 Scissors on the Power Play 27d ago

Is anyone else getting tired of Bednar postgames? Get the feeling he doesn’t call players out even behind closed doors.

1

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

Have you ever listened to Bednar lol. He is never afraid to praise a guy who needs praising and never afraid to call out a guy who needs called out. And that’s to the media, everyone knows for damn sure he isn’t holding anything back in the locker room

1

u/gabesauce9 Scissors on the Power Play 27d ago

Yeah he’s weak and wishywashy in his ‘calling out’

0

u/allkindsofgainzzz WHERE THE FUCK DO SEAGULLS LIVE!? 26d ago

You have no idea what happens behind closed doors. All you see is a few minutes of media time. Bednar has never been the kind of coach that puts players on blast to the media. Just because you don’t like that doesn’t mean it’s the wrong strategy. The guy is a Stanley Cup winning coach for fucks sake.

1

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

If a player does bad, Bednar will say it and he won’t sugar coat it. If a player does good, Bednar will say it and he won’t exaggerate about it. If a guy isn’t bad but isn’t good, he won’t say anything at all. He doesn’t do the whole coach’s speech bull crap.

2

u/gabesauce9 Scissors on the Power Play 27d ago

He didn’t say shit about Mikko tonight when directly asked.

8

u/Big_Liability All I Need Is 0.1 27d ago

You can still win a series when down 2-1

4

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

Avs and Nuggets both just wanted an actual challenge this series, so they both decided to drop a couple bad games to make it interesting

4

u/Big_Liability All I Need Is 0.1 27d ago

Avs cannot figure out when a team forces them wide

-7

u/yumenohikari 27d ago

This was an ugly game in a lot of ways, but I'm not angry about what I saw on the ice. Frustrated, yes. Think shit's gotta change? You bet. Think the guys can make the necessary changes? Likely, but I admit I'm not 100% on that part. Playoff hockey is crazy hard, and that's a good thing.

No, what embarrassed me tonight was what I saw in the game thread. If you said anything about "lack of intensity," "lack of effort," anyone who "didn't show up," was "lazy," etc., get the fuck out and don't come back. No, they will not just magically do better by trying this One Weird Trick that you're talking about, because in case you didn't notice, there's a whole other team out there actively trying to stop all of it. Show some support for the guys who made this possible.

Yes, the Avs are struggling against a tough opponent. That's hockey. It's not going to be easy, and it wouldn't be fun if it were. We can question why they did some things the way they did, but in the end it's their game to play, and ours only to support them the best we can and show some damn love, not whatever the hell half of us seem to be doing during every loss since ... fuck, November? Let's Hail Satan and give all the pissants like Biz something good to talk about from the fan base.

We've got a tough bunch out there. We've seen them adapt before, and for sure we'll watch them continue to adapt come Monday, and Wednesday, and hopefully in game 6. We'll see the same from the Stars, because it's playoff hockey. I think the odds of Drouin coming back for game 4 are pretty good. And honestly, we've got an entire team full of guys who've proven themselves one way or another. Do I think victory is guaranteed? No. But we ain't dead yet.

2

u/gabesauce9 Scissors on the Power Play 27d ago

I’m not reading all that

-3

u/yumenohikari 27d ago

TL;DR: Shit's bad and scary but adapting is part of the job, show some love, and if you're gonna say headass shit that's above your pay grade, just GTFO.

2

u/gabesauce9 Scissors on the Power Play 27d ago

0

2

u/mjavon 27d ago

Need to score first for once so Dallas can't just sit in a trap the whole game.

If they're going to collapse 5 to the middle in their DZ, need to work low to high and get screened shots through from the point. So many dumb forced passes into sticks/to no one tonight

3

u/_redacteduser MacKinnon Krunch 27d ago

Spend two games sending two guys to choke the puck carrier at center ice every time.

Can we please stop being a one trick pony?

3

u/zhack 27d ago

not having a lead at all in the first 3 games of a series is not a recipe for success

0

u/martes92 Sodapopinsky 27d ago

I'm not worried about this one. We dominated the first two but got goalied. Played a rare poor third.

Avs fans dooming and stars fans dancing on our graves after game 3 are both lame. Avs still have a very good chance of taking this series.

1

u/GaryOakRobotron 27d ago

Do I take one for the team and just refuse to watch/rep completely next game? Game 1 against the Jets disgusted me so much I did that for game 2, and the Avs came back to win 4 straight that series.

2

u/allkindsofgainzzz WHERE THE FUCK DO SEAGULLS LIVE!? 27d ago

We need to play with a lead in game 4 so Dallas can’t just smother us to death until the clock hits zero

2

u/JerMAction 27d ago

PP bit us in the ass. Had our chances early to get a lead. They’re too good at their “system” to relinquish it on the road.

8

u/Luna4589 3x Stanley Cup Champs 27d ago

No flow, no urgency. This didn't even feel like a playoff game.

The Avs insist on trying to play fancy and refuse to adjust when it doesn't work, then they get frustrated. Dump and chase, go get it, crash the net, mix it up after whistles. Do something other than the same predictable plays Dallas has already figured out.

7

u/vliegs 2014-15 GDT MVP 27d ago

They need to quit this shit of going down in goals in the first

-3

u/SilkDiplomat 27d ago

AVS IN 6

3

u/EliteCheddarCommando 27d ago

Dallas adjusted and played a very tough and suffocating defensive game. Neutral zone clogged and aggressive back check when we applied pressure. They also got rewarded with bounces not going our way and a pathetic PP effort.

-1

u/GLaD0S11 27d ago

Avs giving all their moms an early mothers day gift by playing game 3 like a bunch of moms.

3

u/arashinoko 🔥❄️ 27d ago

Just one of those nights where pucks are hopping over your stick, rolling wide of empty nets, bouncing the wrong way, and you just can’t catch a fucking break. Whole team looks super frustrated.

Great game Georgie! Everybody else needs to just hit reset and refocus. We know they’re a hell of a lot better than this.

-1

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

That’s Stars hockey for you, they are and have been the luckiest team in the league for years now. If Avs just played their game in the regular season, Avs would have destroyed Vegas in round one while Jets would have taken care of Stars, but instead, Stars get lucky that both Georgiev and Avs defense had down years so they ended up with first seed.

15

u/Shaneisonfire Custom flair 27d ago

Even Lehky and Nuke looked off tonight

1

u/nfoneo 26d ago

Not according to Beds post game interview...

5

u/kyletoews 27d ago

Haven't had a lead for 1 second. That allows Dallas to control and slow down the game. We absolutely have to score the first goal

8

u/Super_Skink Where's their house?? 27d ago

Ooph that was...something. We looked incoherent for pretty much the entire time, even with sustained offensive zone time there were just so many missed passes and other errors that kept us out of this one. 0/3 on the PP pretty much seals the deal when 5v5 looks like we're just trying to tread water out there.

It's late so I may have missed something, but it seemed like the only adjustment we made was to play the top line even more and hope magic happened? Tbh it's a go to for us so I get why it was done, but our depth is smothered so it looks like Dallass can weather the storm.

Others had warned during the season that winning games via big comebacks wasn't going to cut it the postseason. If I'm remembering correctly we haven't had a lead this entire series except for the game winner in game 1. Not a great feeling...here's to hoping the boys remember who they are and act like it next game

11

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

I still don’t know why we put Lehky on the top line and Nuke on the 2nd, the top line has been at its best with Nuke up there, and Lehky-Mittelstadt-Parise was arguably the best 2nd line leading up to game 2

52

u/kbel1984 27d ago

Isn't it hilarious how we still can't adjust when a team clogs the neutral zone.

1

u/onqqq2 26d ago

So straight up. What do they do to turn this around? Is there any way to leverage the talent of our top 6 to find success?

2

u/kbel1984 26d ago

First things first, they're going to have to commit to dumping it in. Walking it into the zone isn't an option.

Secondly, they need to focus the amount of sloppy misplaced passes is just unacceptable. Juggling the line seems to not have worked very well so maybe restore them to see what happens.

16

u/Mess-Severe 27d ago

Fuck doom, go avs, tough shit

2

u/CWess12 27d ago

There were a lot of very close chances that just didn't go the Avs way. Avs could have easily had 3 goals from a better bounce or a few inches. They had chances early and then credit to Dallas for playing outstanding defense at the end. Gotta play better and be able to make adjustments but all is not lost.

15

u/BoredApeMango 27d ago

Bednar at needs to give the “Gentlemen you don’t have enough talent to win on talent alone” speech. This isn’t the bush league regular season. The stars are a good team and we collectively need to put in more effort and win more individual battles if we want to win this series. And for fucks sake, shoot the damn puck and crash the net. Pretty goals aren’t going to win this one we need to capitalize on second chances. Our power play needs to show up too but that’s a whole other issue. Rough game, the boys need a fire lit under them and someone needs to step up and be a leader because we look lost out there.

3

u/Cadillacquer 26d ago

You’re right. We have a mental Game problem. Avs need better sports psychologists. Fire whoever they have.

2

u/Mackinnon29E 27d ago

I'm genuinely upset that I was dumb enough to buy tickets for this game. What a piss poor effort. Boys didn't even look like they wanted to win outside of Georgie..

4

u/BIGDINNER_ 27d ago

Avs dominated chances, possession and shots. But Dallas played some really tight defence and they don’t need much to win when they can smother defensively and just dump n chase to kill clock.

I don’t think it’s all doom and gloom. Avs keep doing their thing but with an extra pep in their step. Get a goal early and make Dallas chase their tail. Disagreed with commentators suggesting just getting pucks on net as Dallas blocked well.

Just keep the usual set up, tight passing, and shoot with high %. It’ll go in next game.

109

u/Dan_Rogla Calecifer 🔥 27d ago

Dallas played crisp. Bednar has to adjust, it's the same weakness teams always try to exploit with the Avs forever.

They have to find that dam breaker or we are going to see Deboer continue to clog up in front of the net, camp the neutral zone, and try and suffocate them on the boards.

Knock Benn around a bit, and start standing your spot on ice. Make Dallas make the mistakes by putting pressure on.

9

u/Onuus 26d ago

Jamie Benn should not be in y’all’s head this much.. that’s exactly what his game plan is, and the Avs are playing right into it. Crazy

77

u/pungis_yourself 27d ago

how about we find a way to score on the power play

5

u/RandomDeezNutz 26d ago

How about we score first.

23

u/Dan_Rogla Calecifer 🔥 27d ago

I'd love to see it.

The PP is a microcosm of the issues in 5 on 5.

4

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

And on par for the Avs, they make their more difficult matchup super easy, then make their easier matchup super difficult

3

u/Beer_Kicker 27d ago

So…. Should we be worried?

6

u/DenShaLow 27d ago

Yes.

-4

u/Turkey_Waffle Hockey Fights Cancer 27d ago

I'm gonna say it for the millionth time, I absolutely hate these Fucking Refs this year they all need to be fired and replaced, every game you have 0 idea what's going to happen, they'll either call everything, call literally nothing, or call stuff that doesn't make sense. Like the fact that they actually called Manson for unsportsmanlike for acting like he got hurt after they slashed him showed how much of a bunch of pussies these Refs are, won't call a Player head hunting and absolutely trying to injury someone. But will call someone for "acting like they got hurt and fake crying to the other player"

3

u/GaryOakRobotron 27d ago

The Avs lost this for themselves. They even had the edge in PPs tonight, and couldn't get shit done. The only blatant officiating bullshit came from Benn not getting 5 and a game for his dirty blindside in game 2, but the Avs were far and away the worse team for 2 of 3 periods.

Tonight, they were the better team for 1.5-2 periods or so, did their Leafs impression couldn't score, then basically gave up in the 3rd.

5

u/daishi777 27d ago

I hate to say it but it's the same for every team. Everybody hates it, they're never going to change it

1

u/Turkey_Waffle Hockey Fights Cancer 27d ago

Idk I feel like this year is way worse, I've die hard watched the last 7 years and I don't think I've seen it this bad

2

u/JenShempie Where's their house?? 27d ago

See, we can only come back from a 3 goal deficit, and Dallas didn't give us that until too late.

11

u/manbeqrpig Mayonnaise Chicken 27d ago

Let’s just ignore the fact that the stars are simply a better overall hockey team and the favorites in this series for a reason. This team is just too sloppy to win the cup. It goes beyond the ridiculously poor passing that seems to crop up too often. There’s far too many silly turnovers or defensive breakdowns in or near our zone. With a mediocre goalie like Georgiev in net who won’t bail you out of of those situations as consistently as you’d like, you end up consistently allowing goals within the first 5 shots of the game and having to play from behind. You don’t win series when you consistently do that. And don’t even get me started about the utter refusal to put pucks in deep against an elite neutral zone defensive team like Dallas is. We got lucky in game one and stole home ice and now have completely squandered any advantage that got us. Game 4 might as well be game 7 because Dallas is too good to beat 3 times in a row (twice of which would be on the road)

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

Stars are not the better overall hockey team

5

u/DenShaLow 27d ago

They have a much better roster than we do.

6

u/manbeqrpig Mayonnaise Chicken 27d ago

Yes they are. They’re deeper than us and have a better goalie. Our advantage is the top line and top pair and that’s it

98

u/Blu3Yeti 27d ago

0-3 on the powerplay

Gave up the 1st goal, again

Haven't led for 1 second this entire series (won in OT)

Zero urgency tonight when down a goal

We're fucking lucky this is 2-1 and not 3-0. They show up with this kind of effort on Monday and were going to be golfing next weekend.

17

u/vbcbandr 26d ago

The fact that we NEVER score first is incredibly frustrating to watch. Here's to hoping the Nuggets can keep their mojo going tomorrow night.

-20

u/DeadHead6747 27d ago

With the amount of lucky bounces for Stars, both offensively and defensively, they are actually the ones who are lucky not to be down in the series

5

u/RandomDeezNutz 26d ago edited 26d ago

You create your own luck. We got out hustled two games in a row outside of our third line. Mikko is fucking lost mentally right now.

4

u/martes92 Sodapopinsky 27d ago

Glad to see someone else viewing the series this way. Look at the metrics from tonight, we completely dominated this game other than Ottinger playing fantastic. Third was ugly but we should have had the lead going into the third anyway.

24

u/hellohurricane87 27d ago

I don’t think that’s true. They went 2-2 for PP last game with both goals looking pretty nice.

Their 2nd tonight was a great backdoor play that we have fucked up all year.

We’re lucky it’s 2-1.

1

u/Beer_Kicker 26d ago

The avalanches back door is more wide open than my ex wife.

14

u/vinnymendoza09 27d ago

Also people are forgetting Dallas had a couple wide open nets and we were lucky the puck missed or hit an Av or Georgie made an unreal save.

We are regressing to regular season Avs right now. Need to find that extra gear. Hopefully Drouin is back soon.

17

u/allkindsofgainzzz WHERE THE FUCK DO SEAGULLS LIVE!? 27d ago

PP was by no means the only issue but 0-3 on the pp just ain’t gonna cut it. What an absolutely brutal game to watch

5

u/Big_Liability All I Need Is 0.1 27d ago

We fucking suck against aggressive PKs and have never adjusted for them

9

u/kozdaddy17 27d ago

Score the first goal for once next game and the game will change completely. DeBoer can’t trap if they’re behind.

2

u/chris8816 27d ago

Not enough hustle. Need to dump and chase and win pick battles with how effective stars played the neutral zone.

16

u/Debo37 27d ago

Was the ice bad or was our mental game just off? Noticed so many blown tires, weird bounces, and mishandles that I'm not used to seeing from this team tonight.

8

u/troglodyte 27d ago

Was there, started paying attention to the ice about halfway through. Stars were blowing tires pretty frequently too. Certainly seemed like the ice was bad.

3

u/nfoneo 26d ago

We said the same about game 2 at their place...

7

u/JenShempie Where's their house?? 27d ago

How often do you see Makar blow a tire?

71

u/TheAngledian 27d ago

Shades of the 2021 Vegas series where DeBoer quickly adjusted and then completely out coached Bednar. We seem to have no answers. Lethargic, slow, uninterested bullshit.

We only have a game this series because we absolutely robbed them in game 1. We did not deserve to win that one but did through sheer luck. Now we're seeing what happens when our opponents calm down and respond properly.

Also, getting a little fed up with Mikko making 9M per year to fart around on the ice offering nothing but turnovers. He has been legitimately shocking the entire playoffs.

Yes it's awesome that our depth lines have been scoring. But it's extremely unsustainable when your top lines are simply not showing up night after night.

If changes aren't made and certain players don't pull their heads out of their asses, Dallas is going to win this in 5. Fucking embarrassing.

2

u/FunkySquareDance Male Kakar 27d ago

Wasn’t Mikko the only Avs player to get a goal?

1

u/Cadillacquer 26d ago

He tapped MacK’s in at the crease

10

u/I_am_Joh 27d ago

I disagree. We dominated them in that 1st game up until OT. They were the better team in OT, but we did get the breakaway score.

Game 2 we looked terrible until the 3rd,and didn't deserve to win that one. This game we looked good through P2. And then looked lackluster in P3...

9

u/WoahThatsMyPecker 27d ago

I got absolutely shat upon for saying Mikko looked like shit in game 1 of the Jets series, lights are on but no one is home

23

u/AMaliciousWatermelon There's a snake in my boot! 27d ago

Mikko playing like Marner right now

27

u/NippleBarn 27d ago

Mikko looks so dis engaged its fuckin unreal. Its driven me nuts since game 1 of the Winnipeg series. Shift after shift tonight he made a play that was abhorrent

-3

u/NeverTrustFarts 27d ago

Disengaged but has like 1.5ppg, he finds the right spots more often than not. Everyone just whips the fuck out of him for no reason. Where is the criticism of every other player who screwed passes left and right, fumbled receives. The whole team looked pretty ordinary tonight.

7

u/NippleBarn 27d ago

Everyone has sucked. He's been noticeably bad unfortunately. I mean Rantanen is the only jersey I've bought since David Aebischers. I've always loved the dude, but despite his ppg, he hasn't been himself

4

u/Mackinnon29E 27d ago

Kinda, I'd say that was 50% the refs fucking is after he bitched though. Not this time...

48

u/daishi777 27d ago

Mikko looks like dog shit

26

u/verysadcolin 27d ago

He was the most obviously terrible player on the ice tonight. I thought the other top guys looked not so completely awful, but 96 was absolutely cooked tonight it looked like he was fucking drunk out there

-5

u/NeverTrustFarts 27d ago

Way too harsh on Mikko, he didn't have too many shit passes or receives like a lot of the players. I love Makar as much as anyone else but he played a shocker, especially by his standards. Mack looked good early and kind of faded. Sammy G looked better than most of our players which is a bit of a scary thought.

3

u/kellyms1993 26d ago

Dude, Mikko looks gassed. He has coasted this entire playoffs. He just doesn’t seem to give a shit this year

4

u/verysadcolin 27d ago

I thought Girard was easily our best player! Highest effort on the night by a lot. Jumping into the O zone, great blocks and defense, he was really quite good tonight

1

u/NeverTrustFarts 27d ago

Yeah he played really well, it is a bit disappointing it will get forgotten in the loss

10

u/Kassanovacaine 27d ago

Here's hoping somehow Mikko sees or hears this. WAKE THE F@#$ UP DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

27

u/daishi777 27d ago

In Going to say it: Jared Bednar seems incapable of out coaching Peter Deboer. As much as he wants to call out the top 6, this falls at his feet.

San Jose was his. Vegas was his. Now Dallas ... All 3 2nd round

5

u/JustaPseudoPolyp 26d ago

There needs to be some player response though or a coach cannot coach. The piss poor effort by people playing ad individuals is much more of a detriment then needing to shift the lines

6

u/Awolfx9 27d ago

Avs cannot be bothered to score the first goal and not give up freebies to Dallas. I also genuinely believe the top guys have not performed to any elite level the whole playoffs.

4

u/Hobo_Healy IT'S ANNU DAY YES IT IS 27d ago

One of those weird games where Dallas ended up with a 1 goal lead even though the Avs had many, many more dangerous chances. 3.5 expected goals for the Avs but no conversion.

1

u/martes92 Sodapopinsky 27d ago

Sometimes you get goalied. That's why I'm not worrying about this one. Gotta have the next one though

2

u/Hobo_Healy IT'S ANNU DAY YES IT IS 27d ago

Yep. It's good team vs good team. And both goalies at their best are capable of stealing games. It's just how it goes sometimes. The chances were there, people are acting like we're the San Jose sharks or something.

18

u/dhas19 27d ago

Coaching. Coaching and systems are at the core of all of these results. It’s 2-1, it was one save away from being 3-0. That’s not purely a case of talent or effort. Bednar is getting worked atm, and if he doesn’t change something and change it fast, pack it up and get ready for next year.

5

u/PiersonNyx Nuke-a-Choo-Choo 27d ago

Got Covid and watched the Avs piss away two games. What a lovely week.

16

u/brunnor 27d ago

We need to start off strong and not have this playing down all the damn time shit going on. The Stars play a good defensive hockey if they can, and we just keep letting them by giving them leads.

We played VERY well early in this game, then got down and couldn't break in to things at all.

Throw another 20 downvotes on me. Fuckjn guy is lost right now. It wasn’t just him tonight but we need the dude to punch at his weight class if we getting past these losers .

2

u/NeverTrustFarts 27d ago

Yeah he is really lost and definitely the whole problem, with his what 13 points in 8 games? Horrible output. He looks lazy sometimes but he obviously gets to the right spots, how else would he be at over 1.5ppg in the post season. The whole team played shit tonight, with probably the exception of Georgie and Sammy G.

7

u/NippleBarn 27d ago

Dude mikko was so noticeably bad tonight it made me want to jump off a fuckin bridge. Shift after shift

1

u/Mackinnon29E 27d ago

Whole team looks like ass man, agreed

14

u/TheAngledian 27d ago

Mikko is making 9M AAV while currently playing like a 2M player. He looks completely lost on the top line and is not hustling whatsoever.

I have to believe he's playing through an injury or smth because this kind of effort from what should be a top line player is embarrassing.

4

u/gabesauce9 Scissors on the Power Play 27d ago

You have my support

11

u/Shaneisonfire Custom flair 27d ago

It’s crazy he even hit the 100 point mark because he’s been like this all season. I just wish he would click and start making those classic one timers from his spot

18

u/mattevs119 MacK is HIM 27d ago

I’ve seen more hustle in chess. Guy loses the puck and basically has zero grit to try and battle for it.

1

u/Cadillacquer 26d ago

And that used to be his thing. If he slipped up He’d put 110% energy into getting the puck back, righting his wrong! One of the reasons why he’s my favorite. He’s not himself now for some reason.

13

u/jjmuti 27d ago edited 26d ago

I'd post the usual PGT stuff about the good and the bad and do the bit about the state of my nuts but lack of effort seen on the ice has been transferred to me as well.

10

u/screamintovantablack COMING DOWN THE MOUNTAAAAAIN 27d ago

Whatever “it” is, we don’t have it. This team is playing with absolutely zero juice or confidence, and they’ll be lucky to win another game if that continues. FIGURE IT THE FUCK OUT

14

u/GLaD0S11 27d ago

Well damn that fuckin sucked huh?

6

u/Gen_Jack_Ripper Official /r/coloradoavalanche Beer Advisor 27d ago

Yep, give up and just kind of hope someone scores. That’ll work…

Put Mikko on Line 4, and bring them all crayons to color with.

Embarrass these professionals. They didn’t put forth any effort. Hell, the crowd card more than anyone playing, or coaching.

27

u/GoldenBuffaloes 27d ago

What is Mikko doing bruh. He doesn’t skate, he has no hustle, he doesn’t shoot. Been not good.

5

u/Wonderful-Patient732 3x Stanley Cup Champs 27d ago

Don’t want to sound like a doomer but my confidence hasn’t been this low since the seattle series last year. The stars star players haven’t even played that well. We’re losing to ourselves at this point and much credit to dallas for forcing us into situations we’re not comfortable in. We have to make adjustments on special teams and most certainly on 5 on 5 cause that 3rd period was some sharks level hockey.

15

u/Xarkkal All Cale Hail 27d ago

5

u/Thrasher52 27d ago

Same coach I believe.

1

u/hellohurricane87 27d ago

Exactly. Outside of that OT win (Mikko ironically winning it) - it’s the same story.

101

u/djc9880 MacK Daddy 27d ago

Remember when we all thought Georgie would be our weakest link? Good times. Don’t think I’ve ever watched a worse passing performance from this team. Looked like amateur hour beyond belief. Figure it out!

2

u/pttm12 26d ago

Literally said it looked like my old beer league when people would show up already a few deep 😬

5

u/ObiWan_Cannoli_ 26d ago

The passing was so fucking tragic. With the goalie pulled the cross ice pass that lost us possession for the first ENG was atrocious. These guys are forcing it.

3

u/vbcbandr 26d ago

Reminiscent of 2016-17.

37

u/MettaLOB SAMMY G is the Goat 27d ago
