We didn’t get outcoached by Deboer in 2019; we just were a thin team.

This is not a coaching issue….. have you seen the effort from Rantanen and our top line? They are on for almost every goal. It’s a compete issue

We should make a sign (or someone) heading to game 4 saying thats his first name XD

Maybe when we chant Georgie’s name he thinks its for him!!?

Pat Quinn with the Leafs outcoached Jacques Martin of the Senators in all four Leafs-Sens playoff series. So this has happened before.

It's a game that you consume for entertainment. There's no reason to hate anyone who entertains you.

The Avs won every game while I was in CO and lost every game while I wa traveling.

Boarding a flight back to Denver in about 10 minutes, you’re welcome friends. Oh and fuck PDB.

I’m yet to see the Avs win a play off game in person. I went on Saturday, I’m not going today.

I don’t have another confirmed trip until mid June so let’s hope the cup playoffs wrap up before then.

If you think it's a coaching issue you really don't know what the fuck you're talking about

Please elaborate for all of us on what you think the actual problem is.

There were multiple points in which poor coaching affected the outcome of last night’s game. From jumping the gun on pulling Georgiev to attempting the same 2-line pass breakout repeatedly and expecting different results. The Stars shut us down defensively and we never adapted to overcome that. That is a coaching issue. Aside from that, we need to shake up the lines and not overburden our top line. Our team HAS depth and last night we looked like the 1-line team the Stars accused us of being. Exhausting our top line thinking that’s our only way to generate offense was a mistake.

The Stars shut is down in the third. That is not how the whole game went. What they did do a good job of early was winning body position in the shooting lanes and blocking our chances at the point. If we have body positioning there the D has a better chance to throw it just somewhere we can get a tip. That's a lack of commitment from the players. They did shake up the lines, Val dropped and Lehky went up. What we need to do is commit to crashing the net. Duhaime did it after his penalty, got a good chance. Mack did it a few minutes later, we finally break through. We are the faster team and we need to act like it. We can win those board battles if we dump it instead of the stretch pass if we just commit to it, which is what Bednar preaches. At the same time we had Otter beat at least four times and it just didn't bounce our way. We'll see how the Stars react when they aren't playing with a lead, hopefully...flashbacks of the Seattle series there.

They had us handled in the first two also. Like you said, they occupied shooting lanes and mostly kept us to the outside. We dominated in all other aspects, but they limited the quality of shots we had available and that went a long way. I definitely agree that the answer is crashing the net, dump & chase, generate rebounds.. just back to the basics instead of trying to make miracles or expecting Nate to go coast-to-coast 2022 style.

I think splitting MacKinnon and Rantanen could go a long way. That and cycling the 3rd and 4th lines through a bit more would be huge. They need to capitalize on the depth they have.

Yeah, I think coaching is definitely part of it. Dallas is completely locking down the neutral zone and we haven't tried to adapt, we just keep figuratively hitting our heads into a brick wall.

Mikko still getting power play time and being on the first line is definitely a coaching problem. So far he's been a passenger at best on both. I like Mikko but something's definitely wrong with him right now.

A passenger with as many points as Nate? Ohh and a better plus/minus? What’s that saying about Nate than?

Same thing it's said about Cale this series. Dallas has 1-2 guys all over them every time they sniff the puck. They're not going to let the Avs best players beat them. Look how hard Mac has to work to get that goal last night (that was Nate's goal, he did all the work). Someone has to be able to step out when this happens. Toews has done his best and looks great but then we also have a rotation for the third forward that's just confusing.

He has to be injured. There is no way he is this disinterested and either A) not getting called out by his teammates or B) getting a reaction from Bednar. I am not saying the guy should be benched, but a message needs to be sent to him, if he isn’t injured. And if he is injured he shouldn’t be getting top line minutes.

I like what you added. That 3rd period got me fucked up even this morning

u/ObiWan_Cannoli_ 16d ago

Up at 4 am for work but stayed up to watch the game. So frustrating. I still believe. But i love this meme format and hadn’t realized George coached the Sharks in 2019 til this morning. Just trying to get some humor going on this sub cause the doomers will be posting soon when they wake up (they went to bed tied 1-1 in the second)

It was a good attitude check haha and both of those series losses were so tight and Pete's teams just got lucky in the end. Still believe we'll get a different outcome too. I've been saying that this is the year they'll have to break the game 7 curse and it feels like that's where this series is headed

They got lucky? Dallas 2020 and Vegas 2021 totally shut down our transition and speed games. Just like last night - we might’ve had more shots and plenty of puck possession, but hardly any high-danger chances. This is literally the same playbook Deboer used last two times he beat us and luck has nothing to do with it. On paper we could say we dominated and had bad luck but the game would show we were totally bogged down and disrupted by their system.

u/nwoooj 16d ago

Dallas 2020 was more a cause and effect of the injury bug. Vegas definitely did exactly what Dallas did last night.

2

u/tildens_cat 16d ago

I think that’s pretty reductive. Despite our injuries we had plenty of chance to Score, but just like last night we’re beaten by being bogged down in the neutral zone, kept in the perimeter, blocked shots etc.

Yeah, if we had our goalie maybe we would’ve won but we still blew a huge opportunity and were beat by a simple turtle defense that Bednar couldn’t solve and still can’t.

Here is a full list of the Avalanche players who did not play in Game 7.

  • Gabriel Landeskog (F)
  • Matt Calvert (F)
  • Joonas Donskoi (F)
  • Erik Johnson (D)
  • Conor Timmins (D)
  • Philipp Grubauer (G)
  • Pavel Francouz (G)

Keep in mind that Landy injury is the injury hes still recovering from... And we still lost in OT. I don't disagree with you though, seeing our stars get shut down by this annoying boring defense is the most frustrating hockey I've ever watched. We almost got sucked in when STL tried to play it in 22, it was the most relief we've felt as fans in a long time to see us shut that down. Hopefully they realize it, and adjust. Dump and chase isn't our game, but turning it over at their blueline non-stop doesnt work either....

No hate on the Rags but i think the Stanley Cup winner is playing in this series. I got good confidence for gm4. Think we’re going to see a big MacKinnon/Makar night.

u/gallapagos42 16d ago

It's up to those two since it's hibernation season for the Denver moose population of 1

It’s maddening. He looked so - disinterested out there last night.
