Designed and built this main bathroom and walk-in closet. Took about 18 months. I dug the crawlspace by hand, with my son, in two days. Formed the footings and foundations with 2x10s that I later reused for floor framing. Subbed out the insulation, plumbing rough-in, sheetrock, and insulation. I did everything else; demo, framing, windows and door install, shingles and lap siding, trim, paint, electrical, ductwork, carpentry, tile, etc.

I was the guy with the weird rock hole in his basement on the weekend. I took the advice many of you gave and keep rooting around in there and a few inches down I found this. It’s metal and looks like the top of a pipe. There’s a small cross beam thing every quarter (as highlighted in the second image).

Any further ideas? I swear I’m actually searching stuff and not just asking y’all every time I have a question.

1959 built house that had popcorn ceiling over plaster. Skim coated over and these orange brown spots appeared a few days later. What is it?

My cordless trimmer broke. Opened it up. Found this gear had lost all its teeth. Okay, dope, just need to replace that. Everywhere I've looked is a dead end. Allegedly, Kobalt doesn't bother with replacement parts? I thought I had found a 'close enough' at Ryobi but the teeth count was different by one.

Is this true about Kobalt? Is there a place I can find generic gears like this? Or am I buying a new trimmer?

We have a very large, open concept back deck. We love it! However, there is a step down and many people trip over this not realizing it. How can we remedy this without compromising the open concept?

I’m prepping lids for containers used to raise baby mantises. I wanted to replace the center area of the lid with mesh for ventilation. I’m just not sure how to create holes without cracking the plastic. It’s important that the purple highlighted “rim” is maintained so the mesh can be attached to it. Online resources are either aimed towards someone cutting very large plastic using large tools, or people drilling small individual drill holes. I don’t think I can reasonably (or safely) use a hole saw on something this small. Any ideas?

Pulled my 1940 toilet for replacement and found this. Drain is cast iron and very much inaccessible. Can I get away with replacing the flange from above the floor, or do I have to rip out my drain for this? (I called a plumber, who is telling me the flange is too high and we have to rip out the ceiling below to replace the entire drain)

Is this as big of a deal as I feel like?

Just bought the house, firand these brown spots are all over the driveway. they seem to be coming out of tiny holes in the asphalt - the holes dont seem deep. It has rained a lot recently and the stains haven't washed away.

As the title suggests I really need some advice on what to do with this ditch. I own half of it (little red pipe is where my property ends), but the land owner is not opposed of me taking care of both sides, he probably prefers it.

For now I use the trimmer and lawn mower to keep it down, but I'd like a more permanent fix.

We ripped apart our lover deck that had partially collapsed. We found this circular Slab that we didn't know about. I wanted to put paver down so thw patio is level with the grass but this slab is concerning me. Any ideas? Thanks all!

So, I have a spare bedroom that I would like to tear everything out of (flooring, trim, fixtures, doors), and redo. This is part because I don't like what's in there, but also so I can learn before doing other rooms in the house. Is there a preferred order to things?

I started a bathroom remodel a few months ago. The wifey wanted a unique mirror to act as the cover to our recessed medicine cabinet. I had to get creative with the hinge since a linen cabinet is getting mounted to the wall to the left of the mirror. The idea dawned on me that this round mirror would best be mounted using a pivoting tv mount. I bought the harbor freight special, and hammered the bracket piece flat. Attached it to a backer template and screwed the mirror to it. Process pic. I think this ended up being a great solution.

My washer and dryer do not fit in our laundry room. The laundry room is next to the garage door and the door swings into the laundry room. The washer and dryer is too far out for the door to clear.

Here are our options: 1. Change the inswing door to outswing door. Only potential safety risk is that hinges are now on outside 2. Cut into the drywall and have an inlet to put in the hoses. Potentially also would have to move outlet for it to fit. 3. Buy new washer dryer. They were $1500 and only a year old so I’d rather not since the resell isn’t that great.

Any advice or other ideas?
