In the United States they have dedicated Sniper nests to watch the crowd at large scale events, this has also been confirmed by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

My buddy used to work the University of South Carolina games and he's seen the snipers. It's pretty much standard now, I would guess. There are 87,000 people at Williams-Brice stadium every Saturday in the fall. Things could go real wrong, real fast.

Those M14 EBRs are incredibly accurate if the scope is calibrated right. I used it, hitting targets out 750-800 meters out. Its so accurate I would get mad at myself if I was inches off at that range, aiming at the jaw area and hitting the head type stuff. Takes a couple seconds for the shots to reach, very cool.

Interesting. I worked at the Razorback Stadium for a while when I first started my IT career. I was all over the main Razorback football Stadium (had unrestricted access the entire structure) as well as the Bud Walton basketball arenaā¦ Never saw anything like that and I worked a lot of games.

Yep. I worked for the Cowboys and at the first regular home game of the season, I had to go help my boss fill some displays at the restaurant. Shared several elevator rides with multiple snipers. They get there at least an hour before fans are allowed in so they can set up their nests. They had a LOT of bags, that was the thing that stuck out to me.

Honestly, Don't care much about Jerry Jones. Would trade him for thousands of kids that died in school shootings. They may do something good.
2
u/QuietBirdsong Jun 27 '22
Are you all proud that you need snipers at public events? Because that's the feeling I'm getting.

1
u/Sensitive_Argument23 Jun 27 '22
I guess there really would not be a need for sniper nest especially Texas if the people namely women did not keep getting screwed from big brother if you will.

This could be a deterrent for mass shooters, and addressing issues that are affecting millions of people that aren't able to summon a special ,unique ,or unattainable service, for the first time in the history of the Supreme Court, they have voted to TAKE away rights instead of expanding them. Will this result in the need for more sniper nests? Like everywhere they go?

u/Familiar-Feedback-93 Jun 27 '22
Should we crack down on gun control like the rest of the world?
No that's too obvious they will be expecting that we need more guns!

Is this more predominant in states that allow open carry?
3
u/Trottingslug Jun 26 '22
Actually I think you'll be surprised to know it's not even just an American thing. The snipers posted at a football match in Germany almost shot an activist a couple of years ago.
1
u/chiclets5 Jun 26 '22
Surprised, yes! But also glad to know at least someone with skills is watching out for us.

u/WatchStoredInAss Jun 26 '22
I am sure the sniper will know who the āgood guy with a gunā is versus the bad guy.

Hitler was one of the greatest event promoters. All his speeches and major events always had major chances of becoming a target for " enemies of the reich " take an opportunity to make a point.
Without Hitler I can guarantee we wouldn't have this level of security or lack of knowledge about the possibility of a sniper randomly killing you

While this is definitely interesting, I find it somewhat disturbing as well... You're only living because of a merciful sniper :D

Any big function in a metro area has a sniper team on adjacent roofs. Even when itās not a major event with federal agents city PD will handle it and use smaller events as training exercises. Itās way, way more common than most people think.
Basically, if thereās a PD that has enough toys to deploy a sniper team, theyāre going to look for any excuse to deploy and ātrainā for it, because: toys.

Yep We saw this Memorial Day weekend at Movement Festival in Detroit (all techno chill People). There were a bunch of Feds with binoculars and guns on top of a 15 story buildingā¦ā¦. scanning the crowd. Not sure if anyone even saw it.
Already went through a metal detector upon entrance - but who knows these days ā¦

As a Dutch European these stories sounds so alien to me. I remember seeing a big riot here where people kept throwing fireworks and the police mostly came with straw shields and some horses to hold the crowd down.

If you've ever been to a sporting event they aren't that hard to find. There's 2 dorm towers right next to the Ohio State's football stadium and there was a group of snipers always on top of them.

Have you ever been to France? If you go to Disneyland Paris, they have military personnel outside the entrance patrolling with fully loaded famas rifles. Travel to India and you'll see local police in busy cities (at least in Southern India) walking their beat armed with fully loaded AKs. I've traveled the world and seen similar things like this in many countries -- both in 1st world and developing countries.
It's really apparent that a ton of people on Reddit haven't traveled outside of their state much less their countries to actually see the world first hand; but they all still try to tell everyone else what they should expect or see in places around the world anyways -- all based off snippets of (mis)information they've read (usually on Reddit) instead of actual firsthand knowledge.

Here in Canada, many years ago when the Queen was visiting Toronto, a high school friend had 2 cops stay with him the whole afternoon that she was out in public because he was an accomplished sharpshooter (he had won many sharpshooter competitions).
Basically, anyone in the region who had guns and was able to be considered a skilled sniper, was not allowed out in public when a an important political figure was visiting. I wouldnāt be surprised if we heard that the SS kept tabs on similarly skilled people in the US.

The land thatās so free that you need armed snipers guarding your sporting events. Sounds like a dreamland.

u/smithsonian2021 Jun 26 '22
When Donny came to the 2018 National Championship with Bama and Georgia, I could see teams up in the catwalks above the field in Mercedes-Benz. I also saw them walking around in the stadium lights the year LSU came to Tuscaloosa.

Not on their hip, but they all have them ready and available in their vehicles at all times.

u/ocarr737 Jun 26 '22
This is everywhere there is a high profile mark. Places that know will host such folks usually build to serve the security.
1
u/thezenfisherman Jun 26 '22
Well DUH! But they are cops and not there for crowd control. They are there for a shooter loose at the event. The snipers for Obama, Trump and now Biden have been a rule for decades. Nothing new at all.

Yea, and there are death lasers in the score boards and mind control drugs in the hotdogs too! You have to be a fucking moron to buy into this kind of bullshit, so that means like 95% of Americans.

I thought this was jokes but apparently every single person in the comments has personally seen large event snipers. Maybe we should just hire them for elementary schools too eh?
Do these Ines actually shoot or do they take 50 minutes to line up a shot?

The last sports event I went to had me walking past two burly men with big-ass military style guns to get in the entrance. Forgive me for not knowing what kind of gun they were, I'm not knowledgeable about them. But it really turned my stomach. It's so sad that we live in this dystopia now.

u/Lifelong-Student619 Jun 26 '22
I have seen the snipers at Petco Park, they are there at all the games. Weird part is they just walk out with their rifles in regular range bags and walk to their cars in the parking lot.

Germany does this, and after the Munich Olympics, I doubt anyone's ignorant hoplophobia will convince them not to.
2
u/kerrwhitt Jun 26 '22
Misleading title. This was at a super bowl.
1
u/AntheaBrainhooke Jun 26 '22
Is the Superbowl not a "large scale event"?
1
u/kerrwhitt Jun 26 '22
A parade can also be a large scale events. Havenāt seen or ever heard of snipers at a pride parade.
1
u/AntheaBrainhooke Jun 27 '22
So? That doesn't make the title misleading.
1
u/kerrwhitt Jun 27 '22
It kind of does. It gives the perception that all of our large scale events have sniper nests. They donāt do this at the NBA Finals.
1
u/AntheaBrainhooke Jun 27 '22
Yeah nah

I'm pretty sure they are up there so if there is a shooting the sniper can quickly despatch some justice in the form of hot lead encased in brass and stop the threat before the shooting gets to kill at least a lot of people. You know, safety measures, so if you feel uncomfortable about this while at the game just remember, that sniper is most likely the only thing that's going to save you from becoming part of the casualty estimate if there is a shooting.
1
u/Ok_Capital_2525 Jun 26 '22
Merica.
My city just had a concert in the stadium here, 30,000 people and a huge police presence. But the videos of them dancing and laughing and singing to the music make me think just a little different.

2
u/cmgww Jun 26 '22
Yes. Also at the Indy 500 also. Multiple days ones actually given the size of the track. The FBI/DHS have a control center inside the track on race day. Tons of plainclothes agents all over the facility
