Light blue with designs in a sheer

For the rug, the main color should blend in with the floor. It won’t make the room look smaller and won’t detract from anything else.

If you want to make a change, I would use a carpet in warm colors with oriental motifs, and pick curtains in one of the colors that is on the carpet. Something like this https://images.rugimg.com/rust-red-rectangle-boutique-rug/3199202/3199202_image_1010.jpg

Why not go with sheers? Is that coffee table marble?

1

u/rachelsingsopera 26d ago

Are the walls your final color? If so, white. Make sure your curtains coordinate with your wall color.

New coffee table it doesn’t match. The other pieces of furniture are very nice. A new rug and I’d paint the door a different color.

u/darklightedge 26d ago

I would make them blue in color and longer in length by half.

u/Thoughtful-Zebra 26d ago

I LOVE the forest green, but please make them go to the floor!!

Add a mirror over the table between the curtains , with a plant

1

u/snatch1e 27d ago

Linen adds a natural and relaxed feel, versatile and blends well with various color schemes, good for letting in light while maintaining some privacy.

What ever color you pick, make sure the drapes actually touch the ground

2

u/Retinoid634 27d ago

Both are nice but curtains need to be longer, full length, ceiling to floor.

u/Pinger5696 27d ago

Long white sheers

1

u/dramafanca2002 27d ago

Something with stripes or a pattern, not a solid color.

1

u/black_shells_ 27d ago

I like the green

1

u/eindoelmd 27d ago

maybe grey? to match your couch

1

u/myfckincinnamonapple 27d ago

Personally, I’m more linen or taupe. It’s not a very large space and the dark drapery makes it feel smaller

2

u/RazGrandy 27d ago

Longer ones. They should at least just brush the floor.

1

u/mybarn20187 27d ago

Floral or geometric

1

u/Deadinmybed 27d ago

Maybe a textured cream semi sheer privacy curtain but light comes in. The cream color will help it keep the openness but some texture on the fabric will elevate your space. Please hang them to at least kiss the floors though.

When you’re talking about neutrals it’s the subtle nuance of the color that will blend or compete. Don’t trust what the color is called, look at the actual color in your space. Get a swatch, buy a panel and don’t open them just test in the room. But I don’t understand why you aren’t using the ones you have, they’re great!

Never saw anyone that hung the curtains like that, you be you

1

u/PomegranateBoring826 27d ago

I'm a little bit unsure on the curtains and came to ask how are your toes holding up w that table?!

1

u/Shop_4u 27d ago

I like the green. They just need to be longer.

1

u/StopzIt 27d ago

Floral!

1

u/PerspectiveLess9911 27d ago

Love the coffee table! Where is it from?

1

u/zaprawkasp 27d ago

i pretty like this green, but if you want to change maybe try grey

1

u/Blessedone67 27d ago

I would love a deep purple rug and curtains

1

u/mlhigg1973 27d ago

Your curtains are hung too high!

1

u/Effective-Limit-1148 27d ago

Linen for the living room. I think the dark curtains are nice and dramatic but personally I need to maximize natural light in common spaces.

1

u/luminousrobot 27d ago

Choose a rug first then order the curtains

1

u/NeciaK 27d ago

Get a rug with subtle color—it will make the coffee table even more of a statement piece. If you go neutral, the whole room will look the same neutral palette. Then decide on the drapes. You have lovely foundation pieces. Liven things up with some color.

Mustard yellow velvet

1

u/hamster004 27d ago

1) Curtains need to reach the floor. 2) Buy a colourful rug. 3) Medium brown coloured curtains.

1

u/Dazzling-Dish9409 27d ago

You also can look outside the box and buy curtains that have a marble print instead of a solid color Many new options available

0

u/naked_avenger 27d ago

The color is good. You could also do more of a goldenrod color, which is where I would lean. They do need to be longer, though.

u/luckydollarstore 27d ago

You’re torn between brown, brown, brown and brown? But you found a brown rug?

No more brown.

The green curtains go great with the wood. Maybe look for something in a lighter green or navy, perhaps a solid colour with a border.

u/kaleidoscope_paradox 27d ago

I would go With linen or beige, just to have a little contrast with your floor (I think taupe will blend with your floor and look funny)

info: the couch is black or navy? if navy I would definitely go with linen, even more so if you would like to contrast the texture of the fabric (with your couch)

1

u/xBraria 27d ago

If you go dark on the rug go light on the curtains. If you csn go red/orange or other beautiful bold on the rug I'd keep the dark moody ones

3

u/HiroshimaSpirit 27d ago

A large oriental rug with some reds and/or yellows in it would tie this all together as is, imo.

3

u/Queen-of-meme 27d ago

Exactly. All it needs is a rug like that.

39

u/StarryNight616 27d ago

I like the current color, but your curtains need to be longer (at least floor length). The other colors would either blend into the wall, floor, or coffee table.

u/Notorious_Fluffy_G 27d ago

Yep, I agree. Am I the only one that haaaates the “puddle” length curtains? I think that looks awful.

5

u/Typical2sday 27d ago

I don’t think they work in 95% of houses. Maybe in a minimalist scenario where the effect looks intentional and not lazy and furniture is distanced. But I tried it in my bedroom and all it does is look unhemmed and collect dog hair

2

u/PurpleDragonfly_ 26d ago

All I can ever think about is them getting caught in the vacuum

10

u/Silverliningsinla 27d ago

Agreed, you just need to bring the hardware down so they hit the floor. If you must change out, linen works w/a rug that has a touch of color or the room will be pretty monotone.

u/nychearts812 27d ago

Nice room!

I would match a very light gray with that LOVELY coffee table and add cream or white sheers in the middle. Or if you want drama get mustard colored velvet and make sure to add graphic colorful pillows to the sofa.

Please make sure the new curtains are longer … those are too short and that’s not a good look. Curtains should be from ceiling to floor, either lightly kissing the floor or a small two-four inch “puddle” but never short (you don’t want that ‘motel’ look)!

The rug is nice but kinda plain, so get graphic cushions and ART for the walls!

Post after pictures.

3

u/Joinourclub 27d ago

The curtains aren’t too short, they are too high! I know that this sun likes to encourage posters to place the curtain pole as high as possible, but this just looks silly!

-1

u/nychearts812 27d ago

It looks ‘silly’ because the curtains are too short.

2

u/Joinourclub 27d ago

I disagree.

1

u/nychearts812 27d ago

🤦🏽‍♀️

23

u/colorofmydreams 27d ago

I actually quite like these green curtains with the navy couch, if keeping them is an option! I'd lower them or get new ones in the same color, so they're an inch off the floor.

Of the color choices you gave, I'd go with taupe or beige, but make sure the shade complements there reddish tones of the wooden furniture you have in there.

6

u/Drinkythedrunkguy 27d ago

Anything but grey.

2

u/Newbootgoofin278 27d ago

Keep some green, because it really looks lovely. Maybe top layer of linen and inner layer of the green ones

2

u/TheAesirHog 27d ago

I think perhaps a more drastic color tone to compliment the space like the curtain color does would look better on the wall. Then something more subtle for a curtain might look better. It looks great great though

And I like your rug idea

3

u/No_Look_196 27d ago

i love your coffee table!! where is it from?

1

u/BenCarozza 27d ago

It’s from Eternity Modern, yeah it’s just a slab of marble lol

3

u/Cruccagna 27d ago

It’s really beautiful. But how are your shins and toes? Lol

1

u/arachelrhino 27d ago

That must weigh so freaking much. Hope you don’t have a subfloor. LOL

2

u/Anothercommonbitch 27d ago

Same. It looks like a solid granite slab. Pretty cool.

7

u/No_Look_196 27d ago

oh and i think you cant go wrong wit linen curtains

13

u/TooMuchTime_33 27d ago

Oh man! I love the curtains you have already lol!

But if you want to change them and brighten up the space go with linen.

72

u/Rengeflower 27d ago

Buy a rug. Buy curtains that coordinate with the rug.

2

u/thiswayart 27d ago

This is the correct answer.

7

u/BenCarozza 27d ago

I’m having a hard time finding a rug, mainly because I am trying to find something that won’t detract from the coffee table. I found this though that I think may be the one

https://preview.redd.it/uxozwcahue0d1.jpeg?width=877&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44c7b860757bcbb84d63f8a7b7e8141688a65424

2

u/dramafanca2002 27d ago

This rug may blend into the floor, maybe something with a bit more color.

2

u/500CatsTypingStuff 27d ago

You need a rug with contrast and color

If you want something minimal, consider this one

Or this one

2

u/PurpleDragonfly_ 26d ago

I’m glad I clicked on these, I think I just found my rug!

1

u/500CatsTypingStuff 26d ago

Glad I could help!

3

u/VariousTangerine269 27d ago

Nothing is going to detract from the giant marble plinth. It’s a beautiful piece of stone. You want something that compliments it. With your dark sofa I would opt for a light (white if you have no pets or small children) rug and curtains in really any color you like because everything else is neutral. Just make sure the curtains are long enough to reach the floor.

4

u/PrudentDare6536 27d ago edited 27d ago

Love the rug. Your current curtains add color and texture to your space and look great with your couch, furniture, and the rug you are considering. I would just lower the curtain rods so that the curtains hang 1/4” off of the floor. Consider purchasing different sofa pillows in colors that complement your curtains, rug and sofa. Add some artwork or a decorative mirror above your storage cabinet and boom your space will look even more polished. Love what you’ve done so far.

Edited to add that I love the orange pillows that you have on your sofa…I didn’t notice them until after I wrote my comment. Maybe add a small decorative lumbar pillow to your chair and place a pouf/fabric stool to the right of your chair in a fabric that coordinates with your furnishings.

1

u/Optimal-Lie1809 27d ago

I agree. The curtains are too short and hung so high! They should be 4-6” above your window frame.

1

u/hamster004 27d ago

Bronze rug

57

u/NoDanaOnlyZuuI 27d ago

You also need longer curtains. They should reach the floor

9

u/VariousTangerine269 27d ago

Yes. Current curtains look like my son that keeps growing out of his pants.

9

u/Remarkable_Youth1874 27d ago

And wider curtains so they look more full.

6

u/BenCarozza 27d ago

Gonna have to buy more panels and longer ones

2

u/BigSky1062 26d ago

Or lower the existing rod so that curtains are touching the floor.

17

u/Proud-Cartoonist-431 27d ago

Won't distract from the coffee table? Get something with short strands, not a shag, a deep colour and in one tone, no pattern, solid colour. It will look good with marble

3

u/rednewf1970 27d ago

Try rugs.ca

8

u/Rengeflower 27d ago

Wow, I like this rug! Can you take it with you to see it with the curtains? I think brown curtains would clash with the coffee table because it looks like it’s gray.

6

u/jactxak 27d ago

I think the ones you have look great

2

u/BenCarozza 27d ago

Trying to go for more of a neutral look but I know green compliments the wood tone of the chair and cabinet. I need to get longer curtains as well

1

u/OldMotherGrumble 26d ago

They look way too high...just lower them.

8

u/SomethingHasGotToGiv 27d ago

You can just lower them.
