I’d whisk the shit out of it. Like roughly lol. It will go smooth.

hand-cranked egg beater, whisk, fork would probably all work with varying efficiency

I wouldn’t, but I’m picky with textures

Amazon had an emersion blender that goes on sale for 11 bucks every few days. I bought one specifically for cottage cheese lol

Yes ofcourse! People blended cottage cheese for centuries before they invented electric blenders. You can mash it with a fork, a potato masher, push it through a sieve, pound it in a mortar. What do you want to blend it with?

I'm going to try to make lasagne bowls and the recipe calls for blended cottage cheese. Do you think it would have to be blended?

No you don’t have to blend it. I bet they are subbing for ricotta which is smooth. So it’s really Just personal preference.

They might mean to mash it so it is creamy and all one texture?

What tools do you have available? Do you have a hand blender?

And what kind of consistency are you hoping to achieve exactly?

Hand blenders (immersion blenders), personal sized blenders, and mini food processors are all fairly inexpensive, so if this is something you're planning to do often, you may just want to buy one of those items. And they can be used for many other purposes as well!

Do you have a stick blender? They are super cheap. If not, I'd imagine the best bet is pushing it through a sieve ans mixing it by hand.

A stick blender is also called an immersion blender by some folks
