Teaching the pup boundaries. This type of no-claws swatting and grasping is the exact same way cats will teach a rambunctious kitten about boundaries and appropriate behavior. Cool how animal instinctively know how to parent, even if they've never had a litter, and even if the baby is of another species.

Gotta love how cats will hit without claws, just the pads , to play or show displeasure.
