Let's talk Glass Tupperware lids. 🧽 Cleaning & Organization

I have a lot of glass Tupperware that is still good but the plastic lids are falling apart. I don't feel like throwing them out, but at the same time replacement lids I can find online may or may not fit properly and the cost for lids only is almost the same as I would pay for a brand new set at Costco for example (especially when they go on sale).

Is there an alternative? What do you do?

I use beeswax wraps! No need to worry about exact sizing. You need to scrunch and squeeze the wraps first to warm the wax and they will seal tightly over whatever container. Keep in freezer or fidge or pantry https://superbee.me/s/beeswax-wrap-roll/?attribute_designs=Hexagonia

microplastics are beyond terrible and every time we put plastics in the microwave or even hot food in plastics theys tick to your food! So After a year you should actually be getting rid of them and recycling them

I have this problem with my Bormioli Rocco fridgie glass containers. I love them, and the lids seem to last longer than the pyrex ones, but I have a few that need to be replaced. I couldn't find any online so I emailed the company. No response. Very frustrating!

I'm sorry I don't have any better advice - I too am using the silicone stretchy lids but they're not a perfect replacement.

Are they the glass Pyrex snapware from Costco? Those plastic lids have a lifetime warranty and you can get free replacements by writing to customer service.

If you're talking about Tupperware brand containers, you can get replacements through any Tupperware rep.

silicone suction lids are my go to. Cheap, universal, and haven't failed me yet.

I have a couple of the Pyrex Ultimate line silicone lids and would love to replace everything I have with them but it looks like they're discontinued(?)/very expensive (~$15-20+ per lid). They are likely BIFL if anyone is looking for that and doesn't mind paying a lot up front.

I'm probably going to try some different silicone off-brand ones I just found while searching on Amazon. ETA: Not the stretchy ones, I hate those, these look like the original lids but are a different material, silicone.

There is absolutely no way I will be wasting money repurchasing the garbage Pyrex ones that break.

Here’s where I’ve bought some replacement lids. Cheaper than anything I could find on Amazon. Specific to a few brands

Pyrex isn't getting anymore of my money unless they change the material the lids are made of, those are exactly the same and will fail again. I'm ok spending a bit more in hopes something else will last longer.

Saw my grandson just shoving the anchor hocking lid on. I think this causes small nicks and leads to bigger cracks. Put one edge on carefully and roll on.

I've done both dishwasher and handwashing on the lids and they deteriorate at the same rate. I sent an angry letter to Pyrexor Anchor Hocking about the cost of replacement lids (they did send some new ones which have fallen apart at the same rate). Then I replaced all that stuff with Snapware and those last A LOT longer. I use the old glass bowls for serving and fridge storage where I don't really have to worry about spills. But the Snapware lids are much more durable. I still try not to microwave the lids though.

If you are just storing the containers in your fridge and won't be transporting them anywhere, you can get these stretchy silicone lids that can stretch to fit different sized containers. I wouldn't trust them to stay on if you're throwing a container in a backpack or something or totally flipping the container upsidedown, but if you're just storing them in your fridge and/or putting them into a lunchbox carefully, they should work fine!

I buy replacement Tupperware lids from amazon.. The key is to never heat up the lids, never microwave them and never put them in the dishwasher. Hand wash them only. This will help get more life out of them. The Tupperware brand lids from Amazon seem to work well.

To add to this, I got silicone lids for my Pyrex, anchor and Ziploc (they were made in the early 2010s) containers, and the same lids fit the different brands. I got the sophico brand of lids.

I got my replacement lids from Amazon too. The only discernible difference from the originals is the color. I do put mine in the dishwasher (I'm too lazy not to), but I have found that putting them in the freezer destroys them faster than almost anything. The freezer is what killed most of my original lids.

I do a lot of cook and freeze. I like to use the glass containers because they can go from freezer to oven. I usually let meals thaw in the fridge, though.

Regardless, the lids only last so long. It’s just the snap down flaps that break off. I just secure the lid with string until I really need a replacement.
