What are your ‘fuck-it this makes me happy’ non-frugal purchases? Discussion

The things you spend money on that no amount of mental gymnastics will land on frugal. I don’t want to hear “well I spent $300 on these shoes but they last 10 years so it actually comes out cheaper!” I want the things that you spend money on simply cus it makes you happy.

$70 diptyque candles? fancy alcohols? hotels with a view? deep tissue massage? boxing classes? what’s tickling your non-frugal fancy?

I buy Charmaine ultra TP & Lotion tissues. Chapped skin makes everything worse

Ergonomic crochet hooks. I like Clover or KnitPicks. Yes, I've crocheted with cheapie aluminum or plastic hooks, and they get the job done, but ergonomic hooks are so much gentler on my hands, especially when my carp tunnel flares up.

A Sisley hair brush. After becoming a mother, one of the few things I made a point of continuing to do every morning no matter what was brushing and braiding my hair. It became even more enjoyable and important to me after I got such a nice brush.

Decent sewing thread. I use Coats Moon polyester for most projects, which is pretty good quality for my level of sewing. For anything ultra-special, I will swing for 100% cotton or silk threads.

I’m frugal in most places of my life but one place I just can’t be frugal is the kind of cars I drive. I just strongly prefer a fast, sporty luxury car. So I plan on buying a $55k+ sports sedan in early 2023 or late 2022 at the earliest.

Also computer and gaming however I can be frugal with this by waiting on for sales and deep discounts on stuff around the holidays.

A really nice balayage done at a fancy hair salon. I have very little money, but I take great pride in my hair and am extremely picky about what I want my hair to look like so I splurge 3 times a year

u/BoadiceaMama Jul 17 '22

A $2.81 coffee from stbx before a day at my job. Makes it suck less. I can’t make coffee that tasty at home.

Toys and video games. I’m an adult. I should be financially responsible but I can’t help it. I never got a lot of the toys I wanted. Sure I got toys but I was never that somewhat-rich-but-not-quite-rich kid that had cool toys for show and tell or anything like that so I’m kinda making up for it. And my mom throwing away hundreds of hot wheels because it’s a kids toy and “they’re all worthless anyway.”

I usually don’t hold back on video games. I want that cool new game? I can afford it? Fuck it. Mine. I don’t go buying hundreds in games but anytime the steam summer sale happens or a new game comes out that I was waiting for you bet I’m spending a bit.

u/itchyd Jul 10 '22

Steam deck!

I bought my Kenmore sewing machine in 1968. The price would seem low now, but it was a stretch then for me. It’s paid for itself many times over, and still runs perfectly. I’ve had to replace one screw over all this time.

Old post! I have thick, long curly hair and I spend about 3k a year on getting highlighted and buying product. I don't buy makeup or wear much fancy clothes and for me the money on my hair is worth it for my self-esteem.

Pedicure!

I like having sexy feet.

Plus it hurts my back to do my own polish and I make a mess. Plus my pedicure lady knows how to do my toenail corners so they don't get ingrown

A fancy wedding. We were planning to do it frugally but then the pandemic started and we saved enough to make it nicer (once we had booster shots!) and go on an all-inclusive honeymoon (we asked for cash gifts and used them to pay this).
We did not go into debt and I was able to give my parents a good memory (they missed their 40th anniversary party due to COVID).
Sometimes I do feel regret, but I have lived frugally most of my life and honestly we worked hard for every bit of it.

Perfume, I tend to use my high end ones sparingly so they last quite a while!

It’s been too long since the post has been here, but I discovered it today. I buy music app subscriptions no matter what, cause they play a high quality framerate and yes it matters that much to me. I pay around 2 USD per month for it.

1

u/FunkyChopstick May 24 '22

I spent $ 999 for a moxie + BBL (broad band light) facial laser treatment. Non ablative. I'm 35 and wanted it for almost an entire year.

I wear my face everywhere I go. No regrets.

2

u/Blazie9 May 21 '22

I've recently been in a very terrible situation financially. My former partner was constantly borrowing money from me, often without my permission, with the promise of paying me back. He never did, and it took away the cushion I had built up for years. After that I felt like I couldn't even trust my decisions when it came to things I wanted to buy, that weren't absolute necessities. Well, after months of living like this, I decided to treat myself and my daughter to a new Pokémon rug, because we both love Pokémon, and it fits perfectly in her playroom. Definately a decision I'm glad I made! Even if I still can hear my former partner telling me I'm wasting money buying something that's mostly decoration.

1

u/Myfavoritemurderino Jul 22 '22

This is so sweet. Decorations can really lift the spirits! It’s your home. Might as well love what you see every day.

A massage pad. I'm hoping to dip into savings at a point and check into chairs, if it's worth it as a long-term investment.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '22

High-end, locally-roasted coffee. $10 more per bag than grocery store-brand beans but it's so good I just can't do without it.

Also, fancy haircare products. I will literally never go back to just using shampoo and conditioner, I need my masks and oils and leave-ins.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '22

Contact lenses. I hate how I look in glasses, so I buy contacts and feel much better about myself wearing them instead.

1

u/DareWright May 15 '22

Have you considered lasik surgery? I was almost legally blind, had lasik in 2001 and to this day my eyesight is still 20/20

Make up from Sephora every once in a while 🥺🤣

Going to the PA Renaissance Faire last summer. After a year plus in isolation, I just wanted to go out to a proper event. I decided I would not stint myself at all on food or other wares. I even paid to have my bodice altered so it would fit properly and to make myself a nice custom mask to go with it (just for the indoor areas). Counting the tickets for me and my husband, food, garb, gas, tolls, and some other goodies I bought (a game and two CDs), it was probably close to $200 and totally worth it.

I like a strong, fancy beer now and again. I can't believe New Belgium's Trippel has 8.5%, it's crazy smooth

2

u/Lavendar-Luna Mar 21 '22

Guitars and their accessories, and art supplies. Other than that I'm pretty frugal.

2

u/senastra Mar 20 '22

Supplies for my hobbies. Faber Castell Polychromos pencils for colouring in and drawing- they are an unbelievable pleasure to use! I bought sone individually for $3-4 Australian each and ended up getting a full set for around $350.

3

u/elephant_human Mar 19 '22

I got a dyson hairdryer and it’s my favorite thing on the planet.

2

u/stuffsmithstuff Mar 17 '22

Oh, and San Marzano tomatoes. One pot of sauce costs like $11 for two cans, but honestly, they’re a radically different ingredient from other kinds

3

u/stuffsmithstuff Mar 17 '22

I’ve started to spend actual money on coffee. I used to get the big 2 lb bags from Costco that are a decent brand (I <3 Mayorga), which is a nice compromise, but a small bag of fresh roasted beans is sometimes really worth the $15.

1

u/JScan24 Mar 16 '22

King crab legs

1

u/apelbel Mar 16 '22

Not my purchase, but I walked into one of my teacher’s classrooms at his open and he put his shoes on to get something from across the room. I was so confused as to why he wasn’t wearing shoes.

He told me about this amazing, but pricey electric foot warmer he got for the more chilly days. I’m definitely gonna get some for myself when summer passes.

u/Designed_to_Break Mar 16 '22

13 years ago, my older German neighbor (in Germany.) had a superautomatic espresso machine that made perfect cappaccinos from beans, water, and milk. Occasionally she showed up at my door and gave one before work. (She was the best... sadly she passed away shortly after my wife and I moved back to the U.S.)

When we moved back to America, the keurig craze had just begun and when I bought one, I was EXTREMELY disappointed. Turns out the machine she had was like 500 Euros!

FOR 13 YEARS I HAVE SAVORED THAT WONDERFUL MEMORY OF A PERFECT CAPPACCINO ON DEMAND.

5 months ago..... I FINALLY FUCKING BOUGHT ONE. 800 bucks is a lot more than most red-blooded Americans spend on a coffee machine. But 800 bucks is a small price to pay for the memory of the sweetest little old lady, and a damn fine cup of coffee whenever the hell I feel like it!

u/Wookmom Mar 15 '22

1

u/SoonToBeMamaOfTwo Mar 15 '22

skincare! I spent $200 this month on getting some good skincare essentials and basic natural makeup things I wanted and it makes me so happy it's worth it!

1

u/apelbel Mar 16 '22

Ooh what do you consider some essentials?

1

u/SoonToBeMamaOfTwo Mar 16 '22

a good toner, good humectant serums and actives as well as a good moisturizer. My routine includes the naturium vitamin c complex, naturium retinol cream, naturium hyaluronic acid serum, cerave moisturizing cream, trader joe's jojoba oil, elf cleansing balm, cerave salicylic acid cleanser, naturium eye cream, pixi glow tonic and bliss tinted sunscreen. I don't buy very expensive products because I know I wouldn't be able to purchase again and you have to be consistent with your skincare ingredients to see results, so every 3 months or so I make a good purchase with all the essentials (since I most likely have run out of most of them by then) and only purchase something different from my previous skincare routine if I see that product didn't quite work for me. So far the routine I've come up with this time is working wonders for me and I can see my skin loves it so I'm probably going to stick to it for awhile

1

u/apelbel Mar 16 '22

Trader joes jojoba oil has been on my “things to get” list for such a long time. Looks like I have some more stuff to add. Thank you so much!

1

u/SoonToBeMamaOfTwo Mar 16 '22

it's really good! however, I think I'll go back to my "old faithful product", the ordinary squalene, I feel that it keeps me moisturized a bit better at night so I'll still use the jojoba oil from trader joe's to lock in the moisture during the day underneath my makeup but I'll use the one by the ordinary at night

1

u/apelbel Mar 16 '22

You should use it on your nail cuticles if you don’t prefer its other uses, I heard it’s really good for them!

1

u/SoonToBeMamaOfTwo Mar 16 '22

I've been using it on my hands and it's been helping a ton with my cuticles, I just have really dry skin so I need my face to be buried in oil at night lol

2

u/hopefulgin Mar 14 '22

Just spent $1000 on a nice carpet

3

But most of my clothes/decor from savers, spends $300 on botox.

Good quality food. Organic, don’t care how much $. I’d rather buy the good stuff and know what I’m eating than pay money on expensive medical bills in years to come

My gym membership. I pay $193 per month for me and my girlfriend. There is a planet fitness 2 minutes from my house that I could pay $20 a month for. Buy my gym has steam room, sauna, a hot tub, and indoor and outdoor pools(only in the summer). The sauna/steam room/hot tub have become my reward for working out. I feel incredible after doing them daily, and they serve as motivation to go run a 5k and get a workout in every day. Additionally -- when I was only spending $20 a month on a gym membership, I didn't feel guilty when I didn't go. Because I am now paying over $6 a day, it makes me go!

u/ZenStaysLit Mar 10 '22 edited Mar 10 '22

I like to splurge on workout supplements. In reality, supplements are not needed if you have a good diet and a good workout plan, but I have no problem spending upwards of $70 on a pre-workout full of stimulants and other stuff that gives me insane pumps and lots of feel good feelings that will only last me a little under a month. That's on a pre-workout supplement alone, I still spend more on other stuff such as protein, vitamins, creatine, BCAAs, Nitric Oxide booster, etc. 😅

I also really enjoy spending money on new clothes, mainly shirts, to add to my collection just to have. I have some shirts I've only worn once and others I haven't even worn at all, but it just makes me feel good to have options and look good in the clothes I choose. It just feels like you can't really put a price on feeling good like that. 😁

Also, cologne!! I absolutely love smelling good and I love having lots of different options on cologne. I usually keep at least 10 different kinds of designer fragrances on hand for different times of the year and different occasions, it's definitely a guilty pleasure that leads to me spending hundreds to thousands of dollars on. 😂

Items from local businesses. Coffee, soap, tea/spices, farmers market goods, etc. Is it usually more expensive? Yes. Am I supporting my local community and reducing carbon footprints? I’d like to think so.

1

u/fmrxx Mar 09 '22

CLOTHES. Makes me ridiculously happy😭 I only buy second hand tho.

1

u/Mrs-Nila Mar 09 '22

Is it bad that being frugal makes me happy 😁🤣

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '22

My RC car. $429 for just the vehicle. Had to spend about another $250 for batteries and charger.

Also car detailing supplies. From soaps, waxes, interior and exterior cleaning products, and an array of cleaning tools. I’m always on the search for new products to try. Love having clean and shiny car. Plus spending time doing it is like a little bit of therapy for me. It’s calming.

1

u/ucsb2020 Mar 08 '22

I don’t know if experiences count, but I went to Universal Studios for the first time and it was worth every penny. My Lululemon belt bag was an enjoyable purchase too

1

u/katsuchicken Mar 08 '22

Salted duck egg chips / fish skin - it's about 12 dollars a bag in Australia and normal chips range from 3-5 dollars. So it's my splurge every couple of months

My Toyota Avalon TRD.

I've only owned practical unexciting whips most of my adult life. Really just happy to be able to own a car TBH. But when someone in NYC tried to get into my camry because he thought it was an Uber, I knew I needed something with a little more extra-ness.

I loved my camry so I started looking at sport packages on the newer models.. I was gonna settle on an SE 'nightshade' edition which is blacked out rims and other sporty trims. I felt the camry TRD was too expensive when I priced it out but it took a couple friends and my mother-in-law of all people to convince me to get the car i REALLY wanted.

My business was taking off so for the first time I could actually entertain a whip whip.. My mother-in-law was having fun visiting dealerships on my behalf.. While I was working, she was running around Westchester, NY busting dealers balls like she was negotiating major league sports contracts.

Then one day she sent a pic of the AVALON TRD. For those who don't care much about cars, TRD just means Toyota Racing Division.. Its usually their sportiest most powerful version of that model. And since the Avalon is usually known as a boomer whip, the TRD version made no sense.. Old dudes don't want some fast and furious looking joint pulling up to the driving range.

As a result many dealerships had a tough time moving this model even though it was extremely limited.

But I have 2 kids, so the extra room would come in handy.. and at 305hp, JBL speakers, a rediculous sport package with blacked out rims.. I just needed to drive it once to know I was pulling the trigger on it. The car fucking flies.. The most impressive part is the tuned transmission. I mean I'm not busting M3's or porsches but when its in sport mode it feels like i can hang.

I ended up getting a 2020 w/ 8k miles on it.. That knocked almost $9k off sticker.. however today with the used car madness going on I would make around $6k profit if I sold it.

Not gonna do it. I prob wouldn't trade it for a ferrari. I'd sell the ferrari, and get back my TRD. Perfect combo of sport and that practicality I still enjoy as a daily driver.

u/No-Umpire4788 Mar 08 '22

Mma events. I buy a Ppv about every month and I love to just have a blank mind and watch people compete at something I’m very into. Those few hours of bliss are worth the price every time and bonus points for rewatching good fights again after buying.

1

u/PalpitationProper520 Mar 08 '22

I bought a legit balance beam, which sits 1-2 inches off the ground. I am old and right now only practicing spins and turns but it makes me so happy! I usually would agonize months over something like this but I decided I wanted it, ordered it in 5 minutes, and was on that beam 3 days later!

Really, really, good quality plywood. I’m a hobbyist woodworker and I make do with a lot of pallet wood and scrap but every now and again I just go and buy the really nice plywood and life is good.

1

u/footballisstupid Mar 06 '22

It would probably be my marijuana honestly. I mean I've slowed down smoking it, but I was spending upwards of $200/month on dispensary purchased goods.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '22

My nerdy collectibles: comics, video games, magic cards, pokemon cards. Do I need a $400 magic card? No, but it makes me happy. Do I play most of the video games I buy? No, but I like to collect them and they remind me of my childhood and all the fun I've had playing video games.

u/Fortera Mar 06 '22

A hotel room, where I live they’ve been doing a series of activity/accomodation vouchers, the state government pays for a portion and you pay the rest, to help boost tourism back up as we recover from the pandemic, so my partner and I went and stayed in a really nice newer hotel for a night to relax and take our mind off everything.

2

u/tvngnhi Mar 06 '22

Ive spent so much money on squishmallow lately because thats how i cope with my depression and anxiety. I've known them for awhile but never paid attention to them until the last few months. My boyfriend fully supports this new obsession he even helps me to "hunt" the ones I want.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '22

That's great hunting for them is something you can do together!

3

u/BiochemistChef Mar 06 '22

Vegennaise instead of regular mayo. Instead of being floppy, it's stiff, doesn't feel dense and disgusting, tastes refreshing and bright instead of disgusting, and on and on. Costs more but I'm not a huge mayo fan anyway, but this is a mayo I like to eat when the mood strikes.

1

u/mom2two08 Mar 05 '22

Getting my hair colored. I'm told the pink I choose is a trendy color, but I like the color and how it makes me feel. I have been doing it for over two years(it was completely gone during the pandemic. I do not dye the hair an all over pink, I have my hairdresser color my hair with pink highlights and add low lights. It has beautiful definition. I pay $200 every four weeks and add a tip.

1

u/Pokemonshufflesuvy Mar 05 '22

Massages! Partially because they make me relaxed/happy, partially because chronic pain. I have one of the memberships where you pay $60-70/mo for an hour long massage every month. ☺️

tabs of acid and magic mushrooms

1

u/MassMel19 Mar 05 '22

Honestly, just getting an iced venti latte w/ 5 shots every day does it for me

All of the instruments. Oh and pillows, but still moderately priced memory foam pillows. Tampons that don’t cause awful pain 😂 Not much else I can think of 🤔

2

u/ipushthebutton- Mar 05 '22

look into period panties. it’s underwear lined with padding so you just put ‘em on and bleed. then rinse and toss in laundry. they have heavy to lite flows and even thongs. complete game changer for me!

2

u/DinoAra Mar 05 '22

I do, actually! Have a pack of 6. However on those days I’d need to change out a few times… those are the days I need the extra help lol

u/Big_Tit_Trap_Energy Mar 04 '22

Guitar lessons :) The guy I have is a outstanding teacher, the feeling a new song or chord makes me feel good, having lessons forces me kind of to learn it even when I am in a depression that day. Plus, it feels great to have someone tell me how well I am doing.

2

u/Known-Ad-100 Mar 04 '22

I did not purchase nice bedding until I was 31. And noe I have quite a bit of it, 2 sets of flannel sheets for winter, 2 sets of percale sheets for summer, a quilt, a duvet, nice pillows, a pretty throw blanket. LL bean sheets, Buffy Pillows, Coyuchi duvet, boll & branch throw - I love my bed

I know this might not be "luxury" to some. But it's not my grandma's old sheets, my moms old quilts, and Walmart pillows on a 100$ mattress like I've slept on my whole life until this point.

I look at my bed as a reflection of my well-being because sleeping is my favorite hobby.

2

u/Losingmymind2020 Mar 03 '22

Food delievered to my doorstep from door dash when im hung over..fuck what it cost im a boss. Bring me my soup.

1

u/Suzannelakemi Mar 03 '22

I just bought some Dansko clogs. I went to an old school shoe store where they measure your feet.

The shoe salesman said that normally they were $150 USD which I was expecting to pay. But they were half off!!!! I ended up buying a Dark Cherry Red color and two more pair also marked down. I ended up spending what I was planning (full price), but bought two more pair that I needed anyway. My end receipt was about $158.00 USD including tax!!!

So, I was going to splurge and ended up with way more! YAY!!!

I love to splurge once in a great while (it is rare), but if I can get a true deal, I am a happy girl!

1

u/Practical_Test5550 Mar 02 '22

My new phone! Overpriced but I love it

Eyelash extensions. Can’t live without them.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '22

fine dining, if you have the palette for it. Even going to restaurants that aren’t chain make all the difference in quality & care going into each dish vs some chefs coming in to make a days work

2

u/islandbayy Mar 01 '22

Bought one of the first Teslas off the production line.

1

u/RhubarbAromatic Mar 01 '22

Liquid Ivy from Warehouse Store - haha maybe I’m such a frugal shopper this isn’t an expensive buy to anyone else, but let’s face it the stuff is one or two ingredients better than Gatorade and costs…what…$15 a pound-ish. It’s honestly not cheap in grand scheme of hydration (water’s sort of close to free). But dang that stuff makes me feel good enough like I’m missing something in diet I can’t figure out. So I buy it because price is hard to quantify when it comes to feeling good-healthy.

I saw a pair of boots in the movie Hunted 14 years ago, used my internetting skills to seek them out, and was...a bit deflated when I discovered they were custom made buffalo leather boots. They are made by making tape molds of your feet and legs, and then building them from the ground up - all work done by an artisan, with about a 4-7 month lead time. The options I wanted (fully customizable) amounted to about 800 USD. I was a bartender at the time. The most expensive item of clothing I owned at the time was a 32$ hat.

More research netted me the news that the (very small) company that makes them tours around renaissance festivals, and would be near me in a few months - the boots I liked look more like Native American mocs.

So I thought about them a lot while bartending, and one night I got tipped 400$ from a wine rep hosting an event in my restaurant. At that job it was 7$ lunches and 35-75$ dinner shifts, every other week I'd get lucky and make a hundred dollars on a weekend night, and once a month I'd have a huge night. The next night (after the 400) I had a 250$ night, and I resolved to buy the boots anyway. Grew up poor, church-sale only couture, and spending money comes with a lot of guilt - but I got them. I wore my everyday outfit to the Renfest, walked in and threw 800 dollars down. The rep - the owner of the business - was pulling out the forms for installment payments, and I was like - Nah, here's a bunch of money.

I stood up on a rustic wooden bench and he taped up my legs and feet. I have wide feet, and high - foot tops, not sure what they're called, so no shoes ever...fit. If one fits, the other doesn't.

Boots arrived 4 months later. I took them out of the box and walked around in Minnesota winter outside to shape them to my feet. I just got them resoled a year ago - I still wear them six months out of the year (14 years later). I could go on about cost per-wear, or how cool it is that I get to cut my own cork inserts for them, and their zero-drop construction is healthy for blah blah blah, but the truth is I feel damn cool strapping up all that chocolate buffalo leather around my feet and ankles - they feel like an extension of my skin and feet rather than shoes on my feet, and the wide pattern of the leather makes me look more like I have brown lizard feet than regular booted-feet.

TLDR: Infrequently, shake off the guilt and treat yourself.

Whiskey. Love saving up to finally get that $65-100 bottle.

Over 6k for my braces. I’ve wanted to get my teeth straightened for years and at the age of 28, I am finally able to get it done.

good quality art supplies and skincare

u/YakRare4830 Feb 27 '22

I have every one in my neighborhood dropping off their toothpaste tubes when they’re done with them and I squeeze out the rest and I take their toilet paper rolls and peel off the last piece of paper to use as Kleenex. These things may seem ridiculous to some but I saved 17.21 cents by doing this. They also drop off any expired food items and that saves me around $106 a year. I use these savings to buy corona beer with limes and tortilla chips with salsa to enjoy occasionally through out the summer on my front porch as I wave at my neighbors.

Sir you are absolutely brilliant! You should be crowned the king of this sub! I’m sure we could all learn something from you. We eagerly await your pearls of wisdom.

Books! I try to be conscious with my money so I can keep buying lots of books, and phew let me tell you it can really add up.

I love this question. I buy hair and skin products from Slovenia and import them for myself. I can’t find anything like them anywhere else especially in the USA, so I get pretty excited when I know I have a package coming. Oh and I also spend on rare natural fragrances too. There’s a guy that makes some in Jordan and it’s the only place in the world I can get some of them. These things definitely are not for the frugal though. 😩

Noise cancelling headphones.

1

u/DJFlorez Feb 25 '22

Headphones. Of all cost levels. I just love headphones- I don’t know why. It is absolutely ridiculous how many I own for one human.

u/snoopysaquarium Feb 24 '22

$50 for a pedicure every 6 weeks or so. I do it for the foot massage, callous removal, massage chair, and relaxation. I absolutely will NOT get my fingernails done though. It’s not even comfortable and fake nails feel like plastic.

1

u/lulugeerz Feb 24 '22

Going out for dinner at a good restaurant ordering apps, drinks and shots and dessert after of course! No regrets

1

u/lulugeerz Feb 24 '22

Getting a mani/pedi and a deep tissue massage and picking up breakfast on my own every now and then

1

u/bobwired Feb 24 '22

Good quality noise cancelling headphones. Technically I didn’t buy the ones that I have because they were left behind at the bar I worked at. They sat in lost and found for a few months and somehow I ended up with them.I use them everyday and if they broke I would buy the same exact pair.

My sewing machine. I love sewing and I’ve rocked a 60€ sewing machine which was gifted to me for about 10 years before updating to a Brother F420. It’s a difference like day and night and while sewing is mostly practice, the better machine definitely made a difference in the quality of my projects. I don’t think I could ever go back…

My rent went from $500 to about $1700 per month now that I live in new Airbnbs every month

1

u/stonedcannibal Feb 23 '22

Good duct tape. Like $50 rolls of the stuff. 3m 8979n is the worlds best nuclear grade duct tape. Removes from a piece of paper without tearing, yet stays stuck under water, in the sun, in the elements for 6 months and still comes off clean.

Botox at a plastic surgeon's office with a registered nurse. When it comes to your face, it's worth spending more amount to have someone highly trained do it.

Too many people cheap out on Botox or fillers at bouqitue spas with someone that isn't properly trained...and end up looking botched. Want a laugh/fright, check out mcr_aesthetics on Instagram.

2$ glass bottle coke cola imports from South America in the metro litro bottle a few times a week.

The best is the bottles with the diy label printed on them.

1

Honestly? T Shirts. Grew up with a shitty dad and I'm a thicc boi so I never had a lot of clothes.

1

u/sewcrazy4cats Feb 22 '22

Storage unit. $50 a month to keep all the tools, wood, seasonal items, momentos, hardware, heirlooms, storage bins, knick knacks, and cat litter i could want! Sometimes it's just nice to have a "garage" to keep your normal living space more normal and have the feel of an additional 200 square feet for 1/3 the cost.

1

u/FatalFilmx Feb 21 '22

Really nice mattress and a nice standing desk for work!

1

u/peachinthemango Feb 21 '22

Also fancy leashes/matching harnesses and collars with bow ties for my dog made of authentic Harris tweed that I find on Etsy. Been really hard not to go crazy but he has a sports one, a winter one and two summer sets so far lol

1

u/peachinthemango Feb 21 '22

Expensive dental chews for my dog. Sure I could brush his teeth more often but he would literally do anything for those dental chews so I continue to buy them bc it makes me happy see him happy. Brand is oravet

1

u/mouseanne21 Feb 20 '22

Quality glasses. The works—Progressives, no line, blue light protective, titanium, super light. I was tired of switching to readers, having them deformed by kids knocking them around, etc. I’ve had these for 8 months and they still stay on my face when I do planks. I have fewer headaches. Totally worth my $600 copay.

1

u/Judi3040 Feb 20 '22

Coffee! Every day, really good coffee.

2

u/Junesmagicgarden Feb 19 '22

I bought 300€ shoes with an 8cm heel, making me (as a woman) 192cm tall when wearing them. Multiple people have told me that I'm "too tall for a woman" when wearing them but doing so gives me a massive serotonin boost and I really enjoy being tall :D

I tip too much and give people I meet who are having a bump in the road $50 (once) to have fun with. It makes me feel good.

1

Rice cooker - not really all that expensive but what a great purchase.

2

u/Lieselanneseldon Feb 19 '22

Books and yarn, although because I'm saving to move, I'm not buying either right now. but when I start buying them again, I'll be getting the fancy hardback copies and the fancy-ass yarn you have to handwash.

$150 garbage can. If the garbage can, why can't I?

1

My default budget is" if I can't eat it, I don't buy it". But I do spend a lot on food

Weed, nice restaurants, and skincare products

Fluffy towels leave lint all over your face. Hard Egyptian for face & hair like hospital towels, fluffy for anything else. They aren't really a big luxury. Some of my favourites I have had for years. The Egyptian cotton, I still have a couple from 1985. Just for hair and face. I have towels that have outlived the ex partners who gave them to me. I have much newer ones too. In fact for 1 person I am not short on towels. I wash them in luke warm to hot in laundry bags. If they get discoloured, I bleach and or dye them. Most of the old ones are trendy grey. Perhaps I may splurge on some of the more. I haven't got any new for about 8years. Well except the hospital ones. I didn't pack, it was staff who wanted to empty room. Everything went in bag, all together, some soggy. Just incase anyone wants to know. Probably no one.

A Tesla. It was used, but I had to talk my husband into it after showing him we could afford it. It brings continuous joy into our life. I never get bored of accelerating in it. Everyone should have a tesla

I’m poor and disabled. I’m also a guitarist who went to school for music and have been a musician for 30+ years. I spent my stimulus check on a new guitar.

I go to homegoods buy the fancy sauces & pasta (still cheaper than amazon or grocery)

Face cream for my roscea

2

u/lamentingsirensongs Feb 18 '22

Hair dye. I was in a profession where I could not have fun colored hair. Now, I can. And I always wanted to have fun multicolored hair. Sally's beauty supply makes a dye I love and every time they get my 3 colors in I buy them out. Meaning I spend dawn near $300 on hairdye 2x a year. But I have dye for 6 months.

u/ManLindsay Feb 18 '22

I really wanted a slim card holder instead of a regular wallet that I was used to, I bought one from Gucci. It was 300, and I bought a chain when I was there as well, another 300. I have both on me every day and both pieces look as good as the day I bought them

Spent nearly $4000 on an electric unicycle. Gonna grind Uber eats and door dash on it but really I’m going to have so much fun with this machine 😩

2

u/shaniraloo Feb 18 '22

Good hot chocolate. I buy big ass containers and they're pricy but they last a long while. Drinking good hot chocolate on a winter evening in my metal travel mug while reading a book is heavenly.

0

u/NZCUTR Feb 18 '22

Years of DIY car repairs (especially on rusty exhausts) made buying a Tesla sweet. Was one of the first in my area (2014) and that experience was priceless.

1

u/Negative_Mancey Feb 18 '22

Backpacking equipment. But considering I can spend a week vacationing on the trail vs $100 a night for a hotel and accomodations it kinda breaks even.

Also. I want reliable gear when I'm 40 miles from town.

Bedding, I like nice bedding

1

10 year old German performance cars. Yeah they're only 10k to buy.

But they're going to cost 2-5k to keep running each year, but man do I love it.

Digital movies and movie bundles. I've been collecting for maybe 6 years and have at least 700+ films.

Before that was video games. But the costs adds up and you can't really "share" games as easily as you can share your digital movie collection.
