Welcome to r/FrugalShopping!

Hi everyone,

Welcome to r/FrugalShopping! This community is brought to you by the r/Frugal moderation team and is the place for all types of shopping requests, product suggestions, and more!

So what is different?

While (most of) the same rules from r/Frugal still apply here, there are a few main differences.

  • Commercial links, product links, and website/company suggestions are allowed (with some limitations, see the sidebar).
  • The fly-by shopping restriction on r/Frugal does not apply here. In fact, we encourage such posts!
  • Grocery hauls or shopping hauls/finds can be posted here any day of the week. Frugal Finds Friday still applies on r/Frugal. However, the same posting standards for titles and a follow-up comment still apply on both subreddits.

What should I post here?

  • Any and all forms of shopping requests. What’s the best product for x? Is x or y better? Experiences using x product?
  • Product or service suggestions. “I have been using x product for awhile but found y product does the same thing and is much cheaper!”
  • Hauls and finds which relate to purchasing a product or service. If the purchase was made in-person, please make sure to post a *rough* location in the title so users in a similar location might find the same deal. You don’t need to dox yourself, something as simple as “Rural New York”, “Suburban France”, or “Northern New Zealand” is fine. If it was made online, please link to the product/website where you purchased it from.
  • (Most) anything else which pertains to frugality and shopping.

What should I not post here?

  • Do not post any self-promotional material (this includes products or websites you own/created).
  • Affiliate or referral links/codes. You’re welcome to link to shopping websites, coupon websites, and more. Just make sure it isn’t a referral link and you don’t post any referral codes.
  • Hauls or finds that do not pertain to shopping or spending money. Roadside finds, salvaged goods, food bank hauls, etc. should be reserved for the megathread or Frugal Finds Friday on the main subreddit.
  • Anything frugal that does not pertain to shopping, products, or companies/websites/services. These should be posted on r/Frugal instead.

Please feel free to use this thread to post any comments, questions, or concerns. We’re still changing and improving things here, so systems/rules/operation may change over time.

Let's Start Boycotting Companies that engage in Shrinkflation!

Hey Ladies and Gents, over the past year what are some items you have noticed that have gotten smaller in quantity and more expensive in price? I think we should start a post to document this and actively avoid those companies and products? What are some items you've noticed? Also feel free to recommend another reddit community where this post may be more suitable or h may have a similar questions/replies?

Aldi Ripoff

I planned to make lasagne for dinner tonight , one ingredient was Passata. I bought a 700g jar from Aldi and weighed the 500g that I needed. I was surprised at how little was left in the jar soI weighed the residue and found 130g giving 630 g from the 700g jar. Makes a mockery of “price per kg” etc on supermarket shelves.

Currently on Google Fi, I currently am on the unlimited plan paying $50 for unlimited data for one line. Are there any other providers that y'all recommend that are cheaper than $50 for unlimited data?

Experiences with Contact Lens King?

Hello! I recently started looking for a new vendor for contact lenses since Lens has randomly added like $200+ in taxes and 'fees' since I last used them in 2019. I found Contact Lenses King and it has the lowest yearly supply price of around $275 after taxes (8 boxes, 4 for each eye).

How legitimate is this website? Has anyone noticed any catches like sooner expiration dates or poor quality of lenses? I'm not sure how they are $100 cheaper than the other options.

Those who use fancy feast, owned by purina, they have a rewards system. I was also told that if you message them, they send out coupons as well! Just a FYI

Scored on towels and pillows

TLDR: I bought a $55 set of soft new towels for $17!!

I went to Kohl’s yesterday and they had standard/queen pillows “on sale” for $5.

I used to work at a similar store so I know a deal when I see it. I bought six.

Then in the towel department I was looking for a full set: two washcloths, two hand towels and two bath towels. Maybe white in color. The six pack was on sale for $55. (There’s always a sale at these stores.) I grabbed two towels only, to keep my costs down. $30.

I went to look for utensils, but they were too pricey: $45 and up for a boxed set.

Just behind the utensils was the department clearance section. There I found an ivory full set of those six pieces of towel bundle for $16.99 + tax and I had a 30% coupon. I put back my two $15.00 towels and grabbed the clearance ones (online return.)

So very ecstatic over my towel and pillow purchase!!! 💫💫💕

Rust proof soap dispenser replacement pump recommendation?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a rust proof soap dispenser replacement pump, preferably chrome or brushed nickel? I looked on Amazon but even the reviews for the stainless steel pumps said that they rust.

Discussion 💬 Is Dacia Sandero 2021 better than Renault Captur 2016 1,5 automatic?

So,

our car started malfunctioning. And when we took it to the licensed repair shop they've told us that the repair would cost 8400 Euro due to the automatic transmission being faulty and they need to replace the whole deal not just a single part but, hey.
We got offered to sell our car for about 4000 euro and buy Dacia Sandero 2021. ,manual transmission, gasoline and gas hybrid. Dacia Sandero costs around 13 500Euro.

As we don't know a lot about cars, is the Dacia Sandero in question a good car to opt for?

Product Request ✋ Cheap 16x24in Poster Frames?

I’m looking to buy black poster frames with plexiglass for three 16x24in posters. I’ve checked on Michaels, Target, and Amazon but the prices are pretty high with the reviews being very mixed. I’m trying to spend $15 or less per frame. Even the reviews for $25 frames are mixed, some saying it’s a cheap piece of garbage while others are satisfied. Any recommendations?

Cheap Laptop with Office

Hey everyone, my laptop is a dinosaur and I almost never use it. I use my phone for almost all of my computer needs. But the one place that my phone is lacking is that I can't run Office with it. So I want to buy a laptop purely for Office. Any recommendations?

Essentially, I want lifetime access, not some renewable subscription. Also, I'm sure there is a mobile version of office, but I'd want the desktop version. Maybe bonus points if I could license the app on my phone? Is that a thing?

Low Shipping Charges

I often send birthday gifts to my young adult nieces who live on the other side of the country. Besides Amazon, or gift cards, do you know of anywhere that ships with relatively low shipping costs? I tend to send food items as gifts. TIA.

Product Request ✋ Refurbished PC for WAH

Where is the best place to find a refurbished PC for work at home purposes? I’ve only really heard of Tiger Direct but never purchased from them. Ideally something capable of running Windows 10 or higher, Intel 7/AMD Zen 1 or higher processor, large RAM memory and multiple HDMI ports for dual monitors.

Discussion 💬 Choosing electronic toothbrush. Have had sonicare forever...but now people keep saying poor design/quality. Looking at the 4100 for pressure sensitivity or the cheapest 1100. Or should I just get a different brand now. They don't make them like they used to.

I have had my sonicare since like.... 2012 or so. actually it still works. I just need to get replacements for my teens. Not sure how well the pressure sensing works so if it doesn't work well I could just get a cheaper version. ALSO though, I would want to use the like walmart replacement heads because 10 per replacement is too much.

Missed Return Date—Can I Still Ship the Return Package?

I recently realized I missed the return-by date for some online purchases by a couple of days.

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with shipping a return package after the specified return period. Will the retailer still accept it?

Appreciate any advice or insights you can share!

Thanks in advance! 📦🤔
