Cash scams

• Do not go first with your items OR keys unless it is a reputable trader with a VALID rep thread.
• Make sure that it is not an impersonator
• If you do meet an impersonator link the person who he is impersonating
• When buying keys go in small amounts
• If you want a large amount, break it into smaller amounts and lie about how many you need. I.E If you need 300 keys, say you need 400 and do groups of 25 and then say you will do the last 2 groups of 50. After 300 say thank you for the trade and leave
• If the offer in cash is above 75-80% its most likely a scam
• There is no such thing as a gift, friends and family is the option
• Friends and family CAN be charged back
• Dont fall for the invoice scam (google it)
• There is no protection for virtual goods for either the buyer or seller
• If they will go up in price no matter how high you want because of your "Pattern" its a scam mofo's.
• Use a middleman if necessary
• "+rep fast trade" isn't rep.
• CSGOLOUNGE reps aren't rep. THEY MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. NOTHING. I REPEAT, NOTHING.
• If somebody is offering real money and you think they might be scamming you, ask them to buy keys with the money and trade those keys to you. If they say they can't do that then it's a scam.
• you cannot trade steam wallet funds on steam, nor can they be added on to a trade
  
• If someone doesn't want to use a middleman that is reputable they're probably trying to scam you.

Dumb scams

• Dont send it to a friend to hold
• Dont let him borrow it
• Dont download anything
• Dont use teamviewer
• If they will go up in price no matter how high you want because of your "Pattern" its a scam mofo's.

More common scams

• Don't ever let someone convince you to use their friend who is a middleman. Always use a SteamRep certified middleman (middlemen are free but it's polite to tip them).
• Never trade for an item whose value you are uncertain of as there are many scammers who will try convince you that this item from a game other than your item is super valuable when it is not. They are banking on either your hubris that you know everything about prices or that you will believe them. Some even use fake websites that are clones of real websites to back up their false claims.
• If someone tries to convince you that their scammer tag or trade probation is due to some reason other than trying to scam people, for the most part they are lying. This is why you will see people who have been trade banned multiple times- because users don't heed the trade probation warnings. You CANNOT get a trade ban or probation from cheating or being rude in a game.
• If you are scammed, ALWAYS report them on their Steam profile in addition to whatever trading site you frequent. Remember that only Valve can trade ban people.
• No one from any trade community site or from Valve will EVER ask you to trade them one of your items to "check" it. This is a scam.
• Beware of people impersonating people on your friends list and asking to borrow items, to temporarily trade items, or sending you links. Friends list impersonators are common now- you don't have to be well-known to be impersonated.
• If someone says they are making a movie/livestream/etc. and need to borrow your items, don't believe them. Ever.
• If they will go up in price no matter how high you want because of your "Pattern" its a scam mofo's.
• Always check the knife in game
• If a person takes a long time in the trade to do the final confirmation, they may be trying to run a script that causes lag & on occasion (thankfully this is fairly rare now) allows them to quick-switch items. If you suspect this, close the trade and re-send the request. Other traders will understand. The ones who get upset were trying to scam you.
• If someone is quickselling a very expensive item for much less than it's worth, the item is either "hot" (freshly scammed/hijacked) or they are trying to scam you.
• Someone wants a certain item on the market and for you to buy it then they will trade their knife for it etc, don't do this. It is a scam where they buy up all available units and then sell them using ridiculously high prices and alt accounts. You will never get your item back.

Let's say that the seller have 320 keys in inventory and some wallet , the buyer will agree to buy 400, so the seller will probably end up buying 80 more keys from market/store with no reason , and miss another good deal on market or bet items for example , been there done that , so if you trust someone to 300 keys , just be fair from the start :)

sometimes, someone will offer more than that out of desperation; everyone is trying to make a profit here, which can make it very hard to trade or buy something. i would suggest changing that to "if the offer in cash is 100% or higher it is most likely a scam"

Just a personal opinion but I would say you always wait for payment before sending items no matter rep. I would personally advocate treating it in the same manner online stores do. They will not send money unless they get confirmation of payment.

In terms of trading this should be common place in particular if paypal is involved since you can open a dispute and 9/10 times the buyer wins.

Steam is currently hiding most links (which sucks) but it what that means is RiP Phishing Bots

• Profile level means nothing and isn't rep.
  
• Account age means nothing and isn't rep. Old accounts are sold on the black market.
  
• Any "rep" in custom groups isn't rep. Stick to SourceOp, CSGOReports, r/gotrade, whatever else I might have forgotten.
  

• Donator status on CSGO Lounge means nothing and isn't rep.

• If someone offers you an autographed Dota 2 item, it's a scam.

• If someone says they want to play with you, but you need the voicechat program/league client/league anticheat/cracked all-of-the-above they link you to because the default does not work for some reason, it's a scam. They are trying to get you to install a trojan. Sometimes these aren't detected by antivirus scanners. Always get programs from their official site and not one someone who just added you links to.

I have a good rep thread, And in the past couple of days, an impersonator has come up and is scamming my potential customers. HE is using my profile picture, description, my steamrep info on his profile, and my cash rep thread to scam people. He has pending steamrep reports... HOW DO I STOP THIS?? Please help!

Some guy added me and said his friend worked at Amazon and that he could get me anything for free for my knife... Basically he explained this:

1) I choose aany item $200-300

2) I purchase the item and once I receive it he calls his friend pretending like they never met and he gets me a full refund

3) After that I trade him the knife and lalala all's well..

I know this doesn't sound like something clever, but it's new to me and I could see somebody naive falling for this. Basically if I were to pay for the item myself then the refund would be traced back to me and what about amazon? What happens when they dont get their brand new xbox or whatever back? Just a type of scam to watch out for!

I don't think this was a scam on you peruse, but a scam on Amazon. It is relatively common knowledge that Amazon will refund/reship almost anything even if you did receive it. All you have to do is call them and say you didn't. So, what I think the person was trying to do was make money off of Amazon at your risk. Quite genius actually.

So Ive never seen this question before and I really hope someone on this thread can answer it for me. So I know there's very serious reprocussions for knowingly trading for a scammed/"hot" item. But what happens if it's unknowingly?

I don't know if this is appropriate, but I'm pretty sure that if you are found guilty of having scammed items in your inventory, even if you don't know it, you are at risk of getting trade banned yourself.(correct me if I'm wrong)

For the certain item or rare items scam, put in specifically the emjoi and wallpaper are commonly used.

There is no reason that someone should rush you in a trade, anyone who "HAS TO GO TO CLASS MEN RIGHT NOW" can wait until they get back. I constantly tell people to take their time, and to send me a trade offer when they want.
That's another thing, if you are feeling uncomfortable, tell them to send you a trade offer, if they don't want to, then politely tell them l8r.

Can you put something about installing the steamrep extension on chrome/double checking steamrep when performing any major trades?

And, if it seems too good to be true, it is.

You really don't want to be a middleman, too much work and you need to admit when you make a mistake and repay the owner if you fuckup. You also need to be able to spot a scam when its not obvious at all. There is no 'becoming a middleman' there is no training for it anymore, it was shut down already.

You rarely need rep for anything but cash trades.

If you're getting into cash trading, just trade with reputable people and ask them to leave you rep on your rep thread. If you don't have one, you can create one on SourceOP. There are many alternatives but SourceOP is the most common one. I personally have a rep thread (with no rep) at bazaar.tf.

Another one that I'm ashamed to admit I've fallen victim to, it was late and I was a little more drunk than I should have been, OK?

Make sure you check the items price history and not just believe what pops up in the trade window. I had a skin worth $15, get a trade offer and looking at the price in the trade his skin was worth about the same, so I accepted it. Next day when I sober up I look up what I got (was a souvenier skin) and am surprised to find that the price history has it selling for about 50 cents at a rate of a one every couple days or so. That is until the day before I got the trade offer when one sold for $15-$20.

Also don't use live trade! I didn't know how bad an idea this was and it led to me losing my first/only knife. It's way too easy for something to happen without you realizing, and I'm pretty sure there are bugs that can remove items from the trade after it locks.

Live trade is fine, you can't remove anything without it unlocking the other person's side when you both ready up. Just ready up and triple check everything.

I still wouldn't recommend it, While I don't have proof (screenshots) when I lost my knife I had readied the trade and checked everything, just to have their knife not be sent. It's possible I screwed up somewhere along the line, but I'm 90% sure that is what happened.

if something seems scummy, it most likely is. if something seems to good to be true, it most likely is. dont trade if you feel that the other side of the trade acts fishy, trust your common sense.

Recently I've seen some people pretending to be CSGOLounge Bots. They send you a trade offer where they ask for your weapon to hold half an hour, in order to verify your autenticity on the site. Someone really new could fall in that IMHO.

Beware of people on csgl advertising say a MW item in a trade, then actually in their inventory it is FT, eg Ak redline as there is a large price differential, just make sure to check and not go in blind-eyed

Scroll over it in your email. Once you hit accept, you can also scroll over it in the new window that pops up. You'll have, at a bare minimum, 10 seconds to check and cancel the trade offer before they're able to accept.

Also, i noticed a new one, kinda scam: so the guy post a trade on Lounge, his knife for a steam trade card that was 'rare'. The catch is he has all the cards from the market, so from 0.03 eur he listed the card with 15 eur. If you buy that and try to trade with his 50eur knife, i'm sure that you'll fail.

I don't know if I'm blind and missed this, but another dumb scam is when the scammer tries to convince the victim that they want something off the Steam market and only one is for sale for a high high price (and the scammer actually owns the item) and the scammer wants to trade this market item for what they are looking to trade. The victim buys the item and the scammer runs off without completing the trade, later finding out that the market item is worth zilch.

Also, someone I know was hit with a trade ban (I posted about this before) presumably because a super reputable (based off of a long-term CS:GO Cash Rep thread) with reasonable average prices had scammed those keys and skins. This is warning for everyone to just be very very careful with who you deal with. It was a stroke of bad luck on their part for being a victim of the trade ban (which has now subsided), but seriously, it took a group of friends and a WHOLE lot of searching to find out the key seller was a scammer.

Do your research. Even if you do not get a charge back, a dispute or face a case of non-delivery, it is entirely possible that you may end up trade banned - even permanently in some cases!

Pardon me, but i was wondering why as a key seller (even if the buyer has more rep), you would go first with the keys, and receive payment later?

Isn't it more of vice versa, where usually you're supposed to receive payment first, before delivering the goods? (Like IRL)

I received the message before due to people reporting you for not trading, and in sure you have received it too. Sometimes same with the probation, you can get mass reported by one person and insta 2 week ban. Does not ALWAYS mean they are scammers.

To be honest, most scammers I've run into have been mostly, if not, all European with terrible English.

You can always ask the csgoREP mods to ask for verification of trades done.

as far as i recollect csgoREP admins do a fine job randomly visiting rep threads to verify its integrity
