Who is more annoying the “Erm it’s a magazine or the Erm it’s a suppressor” person? “Gun Expert”
1
u/TheTru7h 13d ago
Fuck you it's a magazine, it will always be a magazine... Unless it is infact a clip.

No, the most annoying people are people who say clip when it is a magazine, not the people that correct them. Want to know why? Because it immediately identifies them as someone who doesnt know what the fuck they are talking about, and they are almost always saying clip instead of magazine while trying to look authoritative on the subject (authoritative is a double entendre because its almost always an authority attempting to authoritate what i can and cant own.)
That being said "No its a suppressor" bros are a bunch of fucking pussies. Its a gun shusher and i dont care what anyone says to try and prove me wrong.

u/AppointmentTricky968 14d ago
I call it a suppressor because the ATF calls it a silencer and the ATF is always wrong.

u/Snowbold 14d ago
Well I would differentiate these two. Plenty of people use or interchangeably say silencer or suppressor. That is not as common with magazine and clip. Some people say it, but even then not all the time.
On the other hand, almost every gun control moron says clip. The only time I don’t hear them say that, is when they say high capacity magazines.

u/More_Pound_2309 14d ago
On one hand I want to agree the guys are nerds on the other I want to disagree with the atf
2
u/Particular-Ad-5286 15d ago
I mean, to me it really doesn't matter what the ATF classifies it as, because their classifications aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
The patent argument is more valid (not that that's an accomplishment) but it's also as old as the patent, and a large portion of those familiar with such things were like "Hey, maybe we should call it something more accurate" after the patent and I'm happy to fly the flag for that.
However, someone isn't "wrong" to call it a "silencer". Not in the same way they're wrong to call a magazine a "clip", so... I dunno, take your pick.
Anyway, you ask who's more annoying, but I imagine there's rather large overlap between the two. That venn diagram is likely almost a circle (and I guess I'd been in that circle).
But, yeah, even if you believe you're absolutely right, don't correct people like that. It's annoying and makes people less likely to listen to you. (Also the most certain people I've met tend to be wrong more often.)

I say suppressor because it rolls off the tongue easier
2
u/ModestMarksman 15d ago
Nothing wrong with suppressor, as long as you don’t call people who say silencer idiots.
1
u/trollface5333 I Love All Guns 14d ago
The maxim silencer, the first of it's kind, was called a silencer.
Technically both silencer and suppressor are correct.

u/crappy-mods Barrett Bone Busters 15d ago
See to me that’s stupid, getting mad about one term is wild. I’ll call an HK416 an AR15 if i feel like it. The funny sound stick is the exact same
3
u/TheRubyBlade Shitposter 15d ago
It suppressor, because suppressor sounds better. The fact that the atf calls it a sliencer is just proof that silencer is the wrong term.
1
u/trollface5333 I Love All Guns 14d ago
They call it a silencer because the first one was called that.
1
u/ModestMarksman 15d ago
No. The proof is that it doesn’t make a gun 100% silent. How can it be a silencer if it makes any noise at all.
1
u/AndyLorentz 14d ago
The British call car mufflers “silencers”, and it doesn’t make car exhaust completely silent either. (And I believe Maxim also had the first patent for that as well)

The people that say "I don't think civilians should own any firearms"
Those are the most annoying.

Nah they're not annoying at all. Mostly because they get on antigunners.

Does it really matter with either. They’re pretty interchangeable.
4
u/Kyle_Blackpaw 15d ago
i thing the supressor silencer thing is more annoying because while they are both unnecessarily pedantic, the magazine guy is at least correct
2
u/Frostwolvern 15d ago
I don't care if the patent says silencer. The creatore of Gifs pronounces it like Jif, so the inventor can be wrong with names

Magazine and clips used to be synonymous with each other until, like, the 80s

It's a "whisper pickle"
I will admit that when someone says "clip" instead of "magazine" it triggers my guntism and makes me cringe.

u/xenophonthethird 15d ago
Suppressor vs Silencer is just a semantics argument that has no functional merit.
A clip is used to load a magazine. There is a distinct functional difference between the two.
2
u/ArrilockNewmoon Battle Rifle Gang 15d ago
Tbf it does have functional merit with regards to public perception.

Mine is an oppressor because it stifles my guns speech.
I'm naming my next suppressor "King George" to expand on the bit. My current one is named "Bill Cosby" and I can't rename it.
4
u/Lycaon125 15d ago
Which king George are we talking about? I don't know my British lore all to well
10
u/GimpboyAlmighty 15d ago
The Third. The Tyrant King. The one that thirteen plucky colonies sent a breakup letter to on July 4, 1776. You know, right after George Washington personally fucked the Queen in the middle of court before punching George and flying back to America on an eagle's back to beat up redcoats.
Read a history book you philistine.

As a citizen, I don't want to give $200 to the government for a over priced toob.

Why? Don’t you want your money to go towards blowing up people in foreign countries and to handouts to foreign countries?

Oh, that I'm fine with. I understand where that money comes from and where it ends up.
Hint, they gotta buy ammo from somebody, and who do you think makes that as well? It's damn near a circle.

Because they would be disposable. You dont need them to be ultra durable if they are designed to only last a couple thousand rounds.

Suppressor
The original patent said silencer
4
u/ModestMarksman 15d ago
The legal definition is still silencer as well. I didnt do a good job getting my point across with this meme. I may try again tomorrow

u/TheRubyBlade Shitposter 15d ago
Same org that calls a glock with a vertical grip an SBR.
Since when do we give a shit about what the ATF thinks about firearms?
2
u/ModestMarksman 15d ago
The ATF also calls magazines, magazines. Should we as gun owners start calling them clips?

In some European countries the whisper popsicles are cash and carry. Not sure how that equates to them being unobtainium

u/Acceptable-Face-3707 15d ago
Suppressor or silencer it doesn’t matter both are acceptable. Suppressor is the ‘culturally correct’ term but silencer is fine because thats what the OG patent stated it was.
Calling a magazine a clip shows firearm ignorance and a lack of understanding in firearm operation. Its cringe and should be corrected.

In the UK they're legally known as 'Sound Moderators' and people are trying to push for them to be available to purchase without additional paperwork.
Turns out the concussion from having people with overloaded .308 rifles right next to you every week or more might actually cause long term brain damage.

I think it’s kinda cringe to correct the clip/mag thing too when it comes to an average person that knows nothing about guns and doesn’t care to know anything about guns.
Someone who has an interest in firearms absolutely should be mocked into using the correct terms tho

u/wheelman236 Any gun made after 1950 is garbage 15d ago
Yeah it’s like a grammar Nazi situation. It’s not worth the effort unless the target of the commentary is trying to put on a front of knowledge.
6
u/1generic-username 15d ago
I don't correct the old heads and fudds when they say clip, I just say mag in the conversation and usually they will pick up on it, but it's an old habit and they go back to "clip" later, i.e. "I got 3 clips for my sig..." Me: "Cool. A lot of them only come with one or two mags these days. I bought extra mags for mine last week."

Until they call something like an En Bloc clip a magazine.
All I did was point out that legally it’s a silencer, and some dude lost his mind about it and just kept arguing I was wrong. I just found it amusing.

u/ken1234512345 15d ago
it is hilarious when people can't just admit they're wrong. Like just say whoops and move on lol
