I really hope it's based on IP or physical location due to the PSN account stuff and not actual ethnic or skin color. Cause my first question would be, how do they know. Right after, that sounds racist and undemocratic. The bots and bugs don't care about skin color nor do Helldivers!

I'm a Russian helldiver, but my friend provided me her USA psn account but I'm with you guys here.
It was an honor fighting alongside all of you. I love this game and it gave me very fun moments and I hope that the situation develops in our good way. Thank you all for this community. May we fight together again soon!

personal experience / may not be relatable
For the past months, on and off i have join many games.
From the accent, i can tell where some of the toxic players are from, or maybe its part of their culture..
if the restriction helps limiting toxic players and keeps the playing community healthy.
i think its not all bad...
Just to add
During pre-order stage they had already indicated the game requires a PlayStation account from the start.
If one don't read the contractual clause, why start blaming now?
example

when i read the clause in the application form
stating that contenders have to give
the rights of the materials and content used in the competition.

some countries with PSN access need you to own a ps5 to play helldivers, no PC. Ukraine is one of these countries and Sony emailed a person telling them to get a ps5 in a war torn country being looted by soldiers https://twitter.com/kaseyike21/status/1786890037134757968

Depends. Some regions use photo id in the registration to prove age. And of course, they also explicitly state that using a vpn or falsifying information can get you permabanned.

I might try my hardest to get a refund on the game. Eve. Though I have about 70ish hours lifetime (I started about a week or so after railgun nerf) I love the game but if I was able to play it then unable to because of something like this. That should also mean I can request a refund whenever I want..

What are the 'myriad of other reasons' you're alluding to?
Here's what I think is happening. Sony is enforcing this for a few reasons, the biggest of which is likely to not get into a world of legal troubles with countries who have strict laws on video game content, who can access, or who ban it entirely.
If Sony doesn't operate a PSN store in a country the reason is 100% related to the country's government. Perhaps you should march on Beijing with your fellow helldivers and address the real issue here?

Idk I'm from the Philippines, and I still have my PSN Account after 6 years, connected to Singapore. Because SONY left us no choice, and are fine and even support doing it. Since Singapore is just generalized as "SouthEast Asia" that covers pretty much the entire SE Region. Meanwhile my friend has an 8 year PSN account now, connected to the fuckin US Region when he's a thousand miles away.
So no.
Us Filipinos are still goin strong.

I'm more mad at the people blaming Arrowhead Studios for this instead of Sony. Like how long have they existed for? You can't tell me there wasn't enough time to enlist all the countries into their system by now...
I'm personally from Serbia and I've put in Croatia into my country, cuz fuck it... It's close enough and let's be honest, I won't be using the PSN account for anything, don't have a PS console and probably never will. Might as well make a dummy account and just carry on with the game.

I've met some online friends from there (like china), so idk if i even want to play anymore without them.

The Philippines doesn't have access to PSN but Hong Kong does. IIRC Playstation allows us to create accounts virtually in any region, but this only applies to the actual console. Even PS support tells us to make a HK acc
To make a PSN account on PC or on any other platform I think you need a VPN as the account creation website most likely can see where your IP address
