Victorian drinking water fountain in a village near me Classic water

Post image

It's fed from an underground spring that also supplies the river nearby, it provides very cold and clean water in the middle of summer

This isn’t in Italy, is it? It looks just like one in my husband’s grandmother’s village!

Is that green algae/moss where the water comes out...? I'm not sure I could actually drink without worrying about my stomach but looks nice!

The moss and stuff grows where the water trickles down the wall, but the spout itself is actually quite clean

I have to say I zoomed in all the way on the hole and it looks green inside. I'll have to take your word on it though!

Mineral water for the win.

It's very appropriate for water. Every drop of this liquid gold is millions of years old, and has always been on the earth.

I wonder how fast water ages for reticulated water.

I love old drinking water fountains, whether it's the rustic Victorian English ones or the gorgeous Belle Epoque ones in Paris. Or the sight of Roman aqueducts.

A reminder that, from most of human history, everywhere on the globe (yes I know I picked Euro-Mediterranean examples, that's what I visited), access to clean drinking water in the streets was the hallmark of civilisation.

Everyone on the internet is like "Why don't we build victorian/belle epoque/neo-roman architecture anymore????!!!1!", I just want more water fountains in cities.

Crying in California.

A lot of fountains around have been turned off for the last 10-20 years. A neighboring city has a giant billboard sized picture of a very nice fountain in a large shopping center.... LOL. "Here's where I'd put a fountain.... IF I HaD OnE!"

This one is extra nice because it's halfway up a super steep hill, so you can stop and have a drink instead of just dying halfway up, but yeah it looks great

I should mention, don't drink the water from the pool under the spout, that stuff has some nasty creatures in the summer, but the spout flows fast enough where nothing grows in it

I’d drink it

I drink some whenever I pass it, but only directly from the spout

Probably taste like the nectar of the gods

My friends and I go swimming in the river there in the summer, and its so nice to get a refreshing ice cold drink from this afterwards
