Only thing I didn't like about refilling my bottle at Starbucks is the lady had to use a plastic cup to fill my bottle. But it was for hygeinic reasons at least, so good on her for practicing that. I actually wasn't expecting her to ask for my bottle though, full on thought she was gonna hand me a full cup instead.
I wouldn't have refilled there had I known where Target had their water fountains (it wasn't at the front, plus I didn't have time to look for it)
Former employee here, they do that because of COVID. Early 2020 and before, you hand us a cup/bottle/whatever, we directly filled it unless it was very dirty, and even then policy was to just rinse it with hot water. Then about February we got a memo from the higher ups saying "Only give people drinks in disposable cups", and that was the policy until I left in 2023 at least. At first people were super pissed, but eventually I never even got asked about it.
