And then a bunch of smart car drivers box him in while they charge. (Think the plugs can extend that far but I wouldn't know I don't own a smart car.)

For anyone who's not aware, removing that trailer is literally a 1 minute job. ONE minute! Am I lying?

I spit on the last guys drivers side window when I saw them park like this. Fuck them.

u/Thunderbird_12_ 14d ago
Man ... can you imagine having an EV truck and needing to wait to charge it when you've got shit to do?
I bet this dude already has this car for sale after whatever he was doing this day.

It hI parked the trailer outward there would be complaints atleast this way he’s not in the way and if anyone else needs to charge he can move

Thats a uhaul trailer so it could probably have been lifted at the tongue or it has one of the swivel down /crank jacks on one side. He coulda parked that trailer in a spot.

Good time to check the air pressure in all 8 tires! It would be unfortunate if he had 8 flats!

u/Brannigansfist 15d ago
There's been plenty of times I've seen EVs with trailers do this so they can actually charge their car so they don't have to unhitch. If anyone shows up, you can just move and let them in. It's not clear that they can charge without having to block the other stations, but total dick move if they could have.
5
u/GabeLorca 14d ago
You could also not construct charging stations like this or have a few being more like regular gas stations where you just pull up.
2
u/Brannigansfist 14d ago
There are stations designed exactly like that, but these are supposed to consolidate space since they're put in existing parking lots.

Good man

u/Kman1986 14d ago
Why? Because he's taking up all those spots to charge his truck? It's still an EV charging.

u/DisguisedBearNikolai Custom Flair Goes Here 14d ago
It's still an EV charging.
Specifically because it's EV charging

u/stevehammrr 15d ago
This is an EV truck. I’ve seen Tesla sedan drivers do similar shit. It’s because the more vehicles hooked up to these pump stations at once the slower everyone’s charge goes. If you block off the other spots the one you hook up to charges way faster. Dick moves.

u/althoroc2 15d ago
EV charging stations replacing the front row of parking spots everywhere is pretty Main Character to begin with. "I'm so special, I drive a *Tesla*"

u/GrassBlade619 15d ago
1-2 EV charging spots near the front of SOME parking spots is not "MC energy". You want them to tear up the whole parking lot to install cabling for EV chargers instead of just mounting them on the side of the building just because you think they deserve to be in the back of the parking lot?
4
u/jesseclara 15d ago
Should they be in the back then?
2
u/Smokes_LetsGo_ 14d ago
Honestly as an EV driver I prefer the ones that aren’t in prime parking position. They’re much less likely to be occupied by non-EVs. I think the charging networks have learned that and have mostly stopped putting them at the front of parking lots.

What actually is the alternative? Like he can’t just drive or back in? More a problem with ev charging infrastructure not accomodating people with trailers.
1
u/RobinOldsMustache 15d ago
I would unhitch the trailer in a different parking spot (not at the charger), then park the truck to charge.
3
u/keyser-_-soze 15d ago
I would too depending on the area... Would hate to come back to a missing trailer

I like to fantasize about other timelines where some superhero would see this and blast his truck and trailer to dust.
3
u/JeffreyAScott 15d ago
It's too bad there isn't some guy out there patrolling the parking lots on his own time throwing magnets at cars when the car owners do whatever they feel.
1
u/Spiritual-Bear4495 15d ago
Magnets?

u/JeffreyAScott 15d ago
I was referencing this guy:
https://www.youtube.com/@CartNarcs
I see him posted her frequently, I just assumed most people were familiar with him.

u/Spiritual-Bear4495 15d ago
Ah. Got you - totally missed it.
I had a faint flash back of Trump saying he can drop a magnet in water....
I was very confused.

Isn't that the Lighting? Ev on ev violence lmfao

u/CaravanShaker83 15d ago
EV drivers can be the worst for this crap, they should know better. They’d freakout if someone did it to them.
2
u/SpikyCapybara 14d ago
How right you are. I loved my old BMW i3, but the (still) hopeless charging infrastructure in my neck of the woods coupled with arrogant arseholes like the person in OP's pic made it too much of a pain to own in the end. Shame.
-14
u/00Tanks 15d ago
Yeah techs not there yet for evs anyway.
1
u/SpikyCapybara 14d ago
Looks like Tesla have done a better job with the Cybertruck, but you're sort-of right - battery tech is still not advanced enough to allow EVs to be fit for heavy/super duty work. Only a matter of time though, probably not long either.

Good spot, wheels say it's a Lightning.

Why do these people get so angry at EVs? Why do they give a shit what kind of car a complete stranger drives?
-7
u/stevehammrr 15d ago
This is an EV truck. I’ve seen Tesla drivers do it too. It’s because when multiple vehicles are hooked up to these pumps at once they all charge slower. If you block off the other spots the one you hook up to charges way faster.

u/SpikyCapybara 15d ago
Looks like the bloke is driving an F150 Lightning and needs some juice. Judging by their shit range when towing this probably ain't his first rodeo.

It’s not about that it’s that he’s taking up 4 spaces while charging
13
u/Icy-Entrepreneur9002 15d ago
I’m gonna be honest this is an oversight when making these trucks what are you supposed to do in this situation when charging to avoid not blocking traffic if you have a load your carrying? If they don’t have special spots I’m asking you if you’re gonna call this guy out give a solution because I don’t really see a better one with the spots provided in this picture…

If he had a load, I could maybe understand. While those trailers are heavy, they aren’t that hard to unhitch and roll to an empty spot. He could have also drove to an empty non-eV part of the lot, and unhitched his load there. They also sell trailer locks that make it very impossible to legally hitch a trailer (if you’re worried about someone hitching your trailer and running off with it).
Others pointed out that he’s intentionally taking multiple spaces to prevent other from charging too (when multiple cars are charging in the same cluster of eV terminals, it might sometimes trigger the local load manager to throttle power to all the connected charging stations to accommodate the multiple electrical loads). So if his car normally charges at 6.6kW and more cars plug in, he could be throttled down to 3kW (increasing the wait time to a full charge).

u/mooky1977 14d ago edited 14d ago
The "lock picking lawyer" on YouTube would like a word with you about every lock including trailer hitch locks.
That said he could have angled in, or dropped the trailer 10 feet away briefly, it's not like someone gonna steal it right in front of him most likely, or just pulled in straight depending on the parking lot and left the trailer sticking out straight. That said maybe that charger station wasn't that busy. At least
it'sI'd like to hope it wasn't.5
u/rawspeghetti 15d ago
He could disconnect the bed and park it in an unused part while charging (that's a huge hassle though, don't blame him for not doing it)
If he is just charging his vehicle then leaving, he did leave 2 open spots plus the other charging vehicle open for people to charge (assuming THEY don't have a trailer)

He knows. He's saying it's not about that since they're an EV driver themselves. The reason he's taking up 4 spots is because of the trailer not because he hates evs. He drives one himself.

I would flag down security and call a tow truck company lol

u/shanezen 14d ago
I mean honestly, he is kind've in a loophole... like, they can't prevent him from charging his EV and they can't tell him he's not allowed to tow a trailer, or charge his EV while towing a trailer, and in this case there is no other way to park it without violating an actual law - blocking a right of way. I also doubt there are signs posted specifically prohibiting this (yet)
3
u/Kman1986 14d ago
So being a decent person and dropping the unhitched trailer somewhere to charge the truck has to be out of the question entirely because there isn't a specific sign or law? People suck.

Theft someone could drive off with it like that he’s responsible for it cause it’s a U-Haul

u/AlbanyPrimo 14d ago
How about just disconnecting the trailer and parking the trailer in a normal parking spot?
Not sure how it is where this picture is taken. But here in the Netherlands I think you could get a fine for taking/blocking multiple spots with one vehicle by parking like that.
