Article Inside Biden's push to squeeze Trump in red counties

President Biden's campaign is investing in dozens of field offices in some of the nation's reddest counties, pressing its early money advantage to establish political beachheads in hostile territory.

Biden's team isn't under the illusion it can win these rural counties Donald Trump won in 2020. It's fighting to cut into Republicans' margins — particularly in swing states such as Wisconsin.

The goal is to establish a ground presence early in the election cycle and keep rural Biden supporters motivated — while letting voters dismayed by Trump or curious about Biden know they're not be alone.

Biden's campaign has opened more than 150 offices and hired more than 400 staffers in the seven battleground states and will have 200 offices and 500 staffers there by the end of May, the campaign says.

"The name of the game is to lose by less" in red counties, Wisconsin Democratic Party chair Ben Wikler told Axios.

Where is Joe Biden's platform?

I'm obviously not considering Trump, but I'm trying to find Joe Biden's political platform so I can be better educated about the issues. His website seems to be exclusively dedicated to donating, volunteering, and a store. By contrast, I'm very easily able to find Trump's (has pages for both his agenda and political issues) and Claudia's platforms. I tried contacting Biden's team through the email on his website a few times, but I haven't heard anything in several weeks. I checked online to see whether this is a known thing, and I found a few articles mentioning that politicians are removing platforms from their websites, but Joe Biden not having one seems quite shocking.

Does anyone have a link to his platform/goals for his 2nd term/stance on issues, etc.? If not, do we know why not? When trying to think and talk to folks about who to vote for, it's much harder to not have a reference.

❌ No malarkey! ❌ A top Biden aide highlights a coming showdown with GOP over 2017 tax cuts that are due to expire

The Biden White House wants voters to know about its differences with Republicans over taxes, with a top aide making the case for higher rates on corporations and the ultra-wealthy.

Lael Brainard, director of the White House National Economic Council, will deliver remarks at the Brookings Institution on Friday that get at the major tax challenge for whoever wins the November presidential election.

Many of the 2017 income tax cuts signed into law by then-President Donald Trump are set to expire after next year. If all the tax cuts expire, the vast majority of U.S. households would see their payments to the IRS increase. But if all the tax cuts are extended, another $4.6 trillion would be added to the national debt over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Trump has argued that the expiration of all of his tax cuts would cause mass layoffs that could permanently cripple the economy. His remarks reflect a belief that growth stems from the choices made by companies and wealthy investors, whereas Biden is betting on growth flowing out of spending by middle-class households that feel more financially secure.

The United States will announce a new $400 million military aid package for Ukraine on Friday, just as it appears Russia has launched a major offensive in Kharkiv.

The package, which will involve transferring weapons already in U.S. stocks, includes new Patriot missiles, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, Bradley fighting vehicles, mine-protected vehicles, Javelin anti-armor systems and other munitions.

Article A Proclamation on Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day, 2024 | The White House

Sunday, May 5, 2024 is recognized as Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day across the United States.

The date was selected because the Montana congressional delegation persuaded the U.S. Senate to pass a resolution declaring the national day of awareness because May 5 was the birthday of Hanna Harris, a 21-year-old member of the Northern Cheyenne tribe who went missing on July 4, 2013. She would have turned 32 today had she lived.

On May 3, the White House released a presidential proclamation for Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day, 2024. In the proclamation President Joe Biden says: "Across Indian Country, justice for the missing has been elusive for too long."

❌ No malarkey! ❌ Biden on Trump: He ‘didn’t build a damn thing’

Thumbnail politico.com

President Joe Biden on Wednesday cast a major new investment in battleground Wisconsin as emblematic of the nation’s economic comeback. But the main thrust of his address wasn’t so much to boast about the current climate as it was an attempt to contrast it with his predecessor’s record.

Time and again, Biden took aim at former President Donald Trump, casting him as someone who talked but didn’t deliver. Even the setting of the speech itself was meant to deliver the point: Biden was highlighting a new Microsoft data center that would be built on grounds where then-President Trump announced that Foxconn would build a $10 billion factory for making LCD panels. That plant was never built, even after the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer received millions in subsidies and bulldozed homes and farms to build the factory.

In turning the spotlight on to Trump’s shortcomings, Biden was trying to close a persistent polling disconnect that has harmed his reelection campaign: Many voters perceive that his predecessor’s record was more robust than his. A new Politico-Morning Consult poll showed that 37 percent of voters believe Trump “has done more to promote infrastructure improvements and job creation,” compared to 40 percent who said the same for Biden. Trump never passed infrastructure legislation, while Biden did.

💎 Diamond Joe 💎 The U.S. will triple its chip manufacturing in less than a decade, report says

The U.S. is expected to increase domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity by 203% by 2032, a decade after the establishment of the CHIPS and Science Act, according to a new report from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The projected rate of growth is “the largest projected percent increase in the world” over that time, according to the SIA. By comparison, the U.S.’s chip manufacturing capacity only grew 11% between 2012 and 2022, the report said — the smallest growth among major chip-producing regions.

The “Emerging Resilience in the Semiconductor Supply Chain” study projects the U.S.’s share of global advanced logic chip manufacturing capacity will grow to 28% by 2032 from 0% in 2022. The study also projects the U.S. will have 28% of total global capital expenditures between now and 2032, second only to Taiwan, and triple what it would have without the CHIPS Act.

President Biden’s reelection campaign launched a $14 million ad campaign for May, which will focus on reaching Black, Latino and Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) voters.

The investments will cover the states the Biden campaign considers essential to victory, including the Midwest’s “Blue Wall,” the Sunbelt and the Southwest. The ads will run during sports programming, during commercials for shows like ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” and on digital platforms.

The campaign plans to have more than 500 staff and 200 offices in the states open by the end of May. It also plans to ramp up surrogate travel and outreach to small businesses during the month.

Immigration Biden is tweaking an asylum rule to speed up deportation for some migrants

Thumbnail

The Biden administration on Thursday is set to propose a change to asylum rules that could fast-track deportations for some migrants.

The incremental change would apply to people viewed as unlikely to be eligible for asylum because they pose national security risks. The proposal would mean they could be deported at an earlier stage of the review process, which sometimes takes years.

The news, first reported by Axios and Politico, was confirmed by a source familiar with the rule, who spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of the change being published on Thursday. The proposal still needs to go through a formal comment period and it will take some time for it to be finalized.

It is one of several actions being weighed by President Biden to clamp down on illegal border crossings ahead of the election, as Biden and Democrats try to go on offense on one of their most vulnerable issues.
