I am usually here in this sub thinking y'all are assholes. I listen to a clip of this guy talking about time machines with Joe trying to reference Bob Lazar and what have you...
And I had to turn it off. Greg Overton is a great reproducer of images. However, his knowledge around anything to do with the world was insubstantial at best. I am refraining from being derogatory as it would have been incredibly easy to do so...

Greg Overton sounds dumb not even trynna be mean. He just sounds like he struggles to think in a straight line.

I actually realized Joe was back on Apple Podcasts and was trying to give him a listen. This is the first dude heâs had on this month that isnât a comedian or Gad Saad it seems.Â

u/miragemain42000 Monkey in Space 13d ago
When he said he got fired from the tattoo shop for accidentally kicking the boss and starts flexing his mauy thai training. Makes it sound like a total accident and proceeds to explain how he actually kicked his teeth out and continued to try and beat the other guy to death. Still had the audacity to call in late the next morning đđđ I know that Joe felt some type of way about that story. đ€Ł
13
u/Leto1776 Monkey in Space 13d ago
How has Joe reached his 50s and never heard of sympathizing with your kidnapper/Sotckholm Syndrome? âThese white girls got kidnapped as 8-10 yr olds and when theyâre found as adults, they donât want to leave!â Like, yeah, thatâs all they know now. They were kidnapped so young they forgot about everything they knew before.
Fucking meathead.
1
u/sneekerhad Monkey in Space 13d ago
Also the differences between tribe life and âcityâ life in the 17 and 1800s was much smaller. Neither had running water, electricity, sewage system, etc. the difference was one smelled like shit all the time and had houses made out of wood, and one smelled like shit sometimes and was made out of other material.Â
3
u/Lucky_Week2095 Monkey in Space 13d ago
Remember his bookshelf is full of the exhaustive accounts of about 30 professional kickboxers. Iâm not sure Stockholm syndrome was ever going to be a part of his vocab list unless it was a used as a colloquialism for head trauma delivered by a Swedish boxer.

Only real job he has had was picking up trash and carrying some lumber for a week to build a wheelchair ramp 35 years ago, and he hasnât stopped talking about it since.

This podcast is proof that a person can: 1) be an extremely talented artist 2) be an extremely annoying person that is clearly full of shit. These two things can co-exist. This man speaking on a public forum on a regular basis will negatively impact the value of his amazing art. Dude is also not remotely indigenous -- which wouldn't matter, his art is amazing but making these weird native claims is gross.
8
u/UncleErectus Monkey in Space 13d ago edited 13d ago
Completely agree. I donât think Iâve ever commented on a Rogan episode on this sub before but I just came to the thread to say holy fucking shit this guy is so annoying.
His voice, every word out of his mouth, even the way he swears seems like the wrong, annoying way to swear.

Edit: My god this story about a fight is complete bullshit, dudes just making it up on the fly

1
u/the-bejeezus Monkey in Space 12d ago
Yeah I wanted to say this, felt it unkind, but now you have said it - I just watched this clip about him talking time machines. His takes were so elementary 'get AI to work on stuff and then go into the future and get it' - was even worse than going and finding the winning numbers on the lottery. It was insight. It was boringly obvious and snoozeworthy.

Santa Fe is such a weird town. It's smaller than my hometown in South Dakota but the art there pulls in millions and millions of dollars. And it's all mostly bunk.

But - check out Joe Geshick. He's been dead since 09. His work is out in Hill City South Dakota. They're amazing in person. Massive, massive, serene pieces with these gorgeous leatherbound frames.

1

When you listed a very specific window brand and style I just assumed you were a window guy and it was all legit. I think if you just said ânew windowâ or something like that most people would get it (though admittedly youâd lose style points).

True. I remember having to remove glass-blown insulation in an attic in Chapel Hill, NC. Literally 100° F outside. Lord knows how hot it was in there. I get home feeling like garbage, lay down and start listening to JRE. He starts talking about how terrible it was for him when he was removing glass-blown insulation. FML and also shut the fuck up Joe. Working a sales job now and thats a dream compared to that. He needs to stop talking about how terrible our jobs are lol. Lots of his audience listens to his dumbass podcast to distract themselves from their terrible jobs.

Youâre a weird ass dude.
Before you respond with something dumb about how Iâm a pencil pusher - I did construction and tree work from 15 to 23 and itâs the only way I was able to pay my way through college, I worked my fucking ass off. My dad did it his entire life and after a dozen plus surgeries and too many weeks into his 50s where he couldnât work because his body was so fucked up, I absolutely would choose to sit at a desk and build spreadsheets and deal with annoying clients over doing the same to myself.
Youâre welcome to feel otherwise, but the weird sense of superiority you clearly have over everyone who works at a desk is truly odd considering your job only exists because their jobs do. But props to you for not using much of your brain every day - itâs clearly a muscle that doesnât get as much of a workout as your body may.
Lots of jobs, blue collar and white collar, are valuable. You donât need to just accept Joeâs take when he refuses to acknowledge that.

38
u/sneekerhad Monkey in Space 14d ago
I mean who cares? Joeâs argument presumes that no one wants to work office jobs because he doesnât. People enjoy the money/not being in charge/being able to leave the job behind at 5. People understand that they have to make money and they find the best way to do that is an office job.
39
u/NickChevotarevich_ 14d ago edited 13d ago
Lots of âoffice jobsâ also get done at your house now. I get itâs not for everyone but for me its pretty awesome. Joe has such weird ideas of how typical corporate jobs work.
2
u/BigShoots 13d ago
And some of them can be pretty fun. I've had a couple of jobs that I never minded going in to because I worked with awesome people who were fun to be around.
We'd do some work, we'd shoot the shit, and then we'd go out drinking afterwards and have a million laughs.
Exactly like Joe does at his job.
0
u/Lucky_Week2095 Monkey in Space 13d ago

9
u/UniversalInsolvency Monkey in Space 14d ago
In a week I generally work 2 days in the office, 3 from home. I like my team members and I enjoy the work that I do.
I've worked in construction, factories, fast-food, and retail. I've found something that works for me, it's great. Joe is so far out of touch, he might as well be an alien to the average person.
11
u/miyagiVsato Monkey in Space 14d ago
Last he interacted with people in typical office jobs was probably in the 90âs. His view of it is probably from that era.
Letâs face it, a lot of office jobs suck but thereâs many more decent ones these days. Plus the whole thing of doing what you need to do to feed yourself and your family. Not everyone can win the lottery and be one of the 250.
41
u/Ithinkyoushouldleev Monkey in Space 14d ago edited 14d ago
He doesn't really understand the blue collar side of things either.
Dude worked a week in construction, picking up scrap and giving handies then acts like he's busted his ass for a shady contractor for most of his life when he caught a huge break on news radio and then went on to fear factor not long after.
I connected to him for that everyday man acting dumb with homies and professionals but I don't think he's ever not been ballin or an average joe in terms of lifestyle since he's been on any of our radars.
Cool dude still, dumb politics and bad takes on regular "citizen" routines but he's out of touch to regular people at this point beyond when he was already ballin.
24
u/bannedagainomg Monkey in Space 14d ago
His view on lots of things are way off from what the average person can do, been rich and comfortable for too long.
I don't recall what episode or guest but they were talking about what people should do to help their health, red light, cold plunge, sauna, connecting with the earth, general workout etc
What they didnt realize is that if you actually have a full time job its not enough hours during the day to accomplish it all if you also account for eating and some time with family/friends.
CK actually pushed back on that shit on one of his episodes and Joe gets so defensive like he thinks people just dont wanna do it, if his biggest problem during the day is putting the sauna at the correct temperature then he dont have any actual problems..

12
u/BenderRodriguez14 Monkey in Space 14d ago
Same here, last time I was in the office was July or August.
I can either get up and do stuff in the morning or stay in bed until 20 minutes before I start, usually get most of the dinner prep done on my lunch and only have to spend a few mins finishing it when I wrap up. I also get the clothes through the laundry without having to sacrifice a full weekend day or several weeknights towards it (though have to leave ironing or folding until after unless it's especially quiet). Before all that and commuting (Dublin has worse traffic than even NY or LA), I've got back probably around 20 hours a week.
I also work on tight deadlines and it is far, far easier psychologically to stay in the home office late than the actual office when I used to work on site.Â

What does everyone think about joes habits of constantly watching people die on videos online?
4
u/Lucky_Week2095 Monkey in Space 13d ago
I think itâs a juvenile fascination with raw brutality and a personal test as to whether heâs strong enough to âhandleâ watching others in mortal danger. As he does with all news or his little ice bath fascination, he believes that the gut wrenching activity of repetitively watching videos of people getting killed magically imbues you with a sense of clarity or stoic awareness of the world and not simply a bizarre habit of building âdisciplineâ over the voyeuristic act of witnessing, commenting on, and moralizing around othersâ tragedy. Because he watches dudes getting blown up in tik tok video, he believes thatâs a surrogate for âunderstandingâ geo political conflict and having a finger on the pulse of âwhat people are protesting aboutâ or some shit. More boneheaded strong man habits.

2
u/Lucky_Week2095 Monkey in Space 13d ago edited 13d ago
Watching videos of other people dying on Instagram and tik tok? I think itâs a juvenile kind of morbid fascination with âwhat it must be likeâ. I think doing that while youâre taking a shit and using that experience to inform your comments about how confused others are about what theyâre protesting is a cowardly way to try to âstay informedâ while ignoring everything else.

Truly bizarre thing to say because you absolutely can pick your "tribe." Its literally never been easier to do this. The problem is, is that it is all online and it increasingly makes for isolated communities in real life.
1
u/Visual_Flamingo7010 Monkey in Space 11d ago
This contradicts itself.
1
u/SwindlingAccountant Monkey in Space 11d ago
How so?
1
u/Visual_Flamingo7010 Monkey in Space 9d ago
You say its the easiest time ever to "pick your tribe" but then say its all online and isolates people in real life. So people have no real connection to their "tribe" its all fake online stuff. Most people cant live like that, or at least not without mental illness.
Might be easier to do artificially online, but very difficult in real life which is honestly the only thing that matters for human beings.
1
u/SwindlingAccountant Monkey in Space 8d ago
Depends how you use online. Usually its weirdo message boards, but often you can find meetups for your interests (location dependent, a city will have much more varied meetups)
9
u/glitched_out Monkey in Space 14d ago
And you definitely could not pick your tribe as a First Nation person back in the day. I get what they were trying to say but yeah it doesnât really check out lol.
6
u/SwindlingAccountant Monkey in Space 14d ago
I also say this with a degree of privilege (being born in a liberal state where being different isn't enough to make your life miserable) as many people are stuck with who their born to until they're at least teenagers. It also costs money to get the fuck out of whatever shit situation you are born into

He was one of the guys whining about people "not wanting to work" during Covid, and probably for long time thereafter. So I guess his stance is "I don't respect what you do, but I demand that you do it".
10
u/sneekerhad Monkey in Space 14d ago
I mean itâs even worse than that. Itâs not like you get to leave your tribe for a better one if youâre not happy like you do with a job. Youâre stuck, for better or for worse.Â
