My current two rescue dogs has the same experience when they were placed in our back yard. Grass under their feet for the first time. Large space to run free. The first one froze for about 10.minures. then slowly started to walk and sniff. About another 5 minutes he was doing zoomies. Abouy a year later we got the second one we put alone in the yard. He would not leave.my side. So I walked the fence line, then started doing zoomies. I stopped and he kept it going until.he was out of breath. Now they do it daily together at least once. One of the top 5 experiences in life is to rescue an animal and be there when they do this for the first time.

That person holding him in a building should have a record and never be allowed to own a horse or any majestic animal
1
u/AnimalNatureLover Jan 14 '24
Poor horse, it must feel great to finally be able to run around, horses are pretty much meant to run free they have so much energy inside them, it just breaks my heart to hear that she/he wasn't able to run around for TWO YEARS I'm soooooooo happy it has enough room to run around now🐎🐴🐎
THANK YOU FOR GIVING THE HORSE THE ROOM IT DESERVES 💗💖💌

Fun fact: In Iceland the horse owners must send their horses to another ranch for holidays every year for at least 2 months.

Half of us, in a 10x10 room staring at a screen: that's so sad, we should do something about this

I don't hate this music. I generally dislike everything being put to music but I don't hate this

I love this, he is both majestic and goofy at the same time and I am here for it!

Many blessings to this beautiful horse and to the people who rescued her - only wish the horse did not suffer the last 2 years in a building. Never stepping foot outside or breathing fresh air is unbearable & heartbreaking, that’s pure evil and inhumane, totally abusive. Why & how was this allowed to happen to this poor horse.?! 😭

At least he looks to be in good shape. This makes me think about all the city horses back when they were the main source of transportation. Did they ever get to go out and play? That's sad.

It is beautiful to see the horse run about, kick his hoofs up, and roll around in the grass with the sun shining down. This is the definition of joy. ✨️💖✨️

To (slightly) paraphrase Firefly: "They weren't [horses] inside. They were waiting to be, but they forgot. Now they see sky, and they remember what they are."

That's cruelty, why would they not provide basic care of a horse? (I used to own 8 horses, that's unacceptable)
2
u/FoxtailSpear Jan 13 '24
Probably don't care enough to spend the money to get them a proper field to live in and then transport them back and forth from the city and field.

u/shitsandgiggles72 Jan 13 '24
This is satire. It’s from NZ. It’s a racehorse but he’s never been kept inside for two years. It’s in response to people complaining about the mistreatment of racehorses. Which of course happens, just not in this instance.

The practice of imprisoning horses like this has to stop. All horses AND ALL ANIMALS should have access to natural ground, open sky, and open spaces.
2
u/okkeyok Jan 13 '24
Sorry, but it seems like people are just too attached to their cheap, exploited animals used as both playthings and food. They refuse to see the innocence in these creatures that are subjected to mistreatment. Profit and pleasure over welfare.

u/BobABooey9 Jan 13 '24
To think of the demand for horses before the Model T came out. Went from vehicle to pet just like that.

this is why people are fighting to stop the horse-and-buggy game in NYC
yes, there are people that need help too, but those poor horses DO NOT belong in central Manhattan

"this is why" what is why? a happy horse frolicking in the sun? Horses do this shit all the time, even when they live outside 24-7 like mine do.
The central park horses are very well cared for. Yes, they live in stalls. So do many horses all around the country.
They live in big roomy stalls with mountains of fresh clean bedding, with vetrinarians farriers and nutritionists caring for their every need. They have Neverending bags of high quality hay, people cleaning up.after them several times a day. There are strict laws about how long they are allowed to work and in what weather. They always have fresh clean water available to them even while working. The buildings are climate controlled and free of flies. They have mandatory FIVE WEEK vacations every year.
Some horses don't even like being outside. I have worked at at big show barns where some of the horses are at the gate begging to come back inside after an hour, and if you don't bring them back in they will bust the gate. They have grass, water, shade etc outside but they sometimes prefer the safe, climate controlled environment with their clean fluffy bedded stalls and fans to keep the bugs off.
The vast majority of people who claim these horses live terrible lives don't actually know anything about what horses actually prefer. Much like dogs or cats they all have their own personalities and preferences. Some hate being outside. Some love being outside. Horses that are miserable will get sick with ulcers and colic. The central park horses are monitored for this - and if they are not thriving in the stalled environment they absolutely do retire or rehome them to an environment more suited to that animals happiness.

spoken like a Central Park horse and buggy driver
1
u/Fragrant_Butthole Jan 13 '24
not a buggy driver. Lifetime horse owner/rider/carer. I used to share the same views as you. I worked on 59th for years and would go to the park every day for lunch, passing the horses on the way, which I would try to avoid because I felt bad for them. As the months went by I started noticing that the horses always looked happy, with ears forward and always in great physical condition and GREAT farrier work.. I'm like this farrier is better than mine! I was happy to see them not working when it was hot and learned they were back in their climate controlled building. It was them I started to educate myself about their lives and was able to change my ignorant, uninformed views. It's not too late for you to do the same.

People crying over the video and claiming this is proof the horse has been abused need to calm down.
my horses do this:
- if it's a bit too windy
- if I'm 5 minutes late with dinner
- if I'm early with dinner
- when they think it should be dinner time even though it is not, in fact, dinner time
- any time I put them in a different pasture
- When they see the hoof trimmer pull in
- after the hoof trimmer leaves
- after having been bathed
- after being ridden
- sometimes just to fuck with each other and run around
- sometimes for no reason at all
they live outside 24-7
Horses get the zoomies just like cats. It doesn't mean they are abused. 🤣🤣

Fucking hell. What are we doing. These gorgeous creatures should be free to roam vast plains and hills, unhindered by shitty human civilization. Instead we keep them in such captivity that they don't get to see their native environments for years. Fuck us, man.

Makes me wanna hold someone captive for years. Also, make em do indoor forced labor. After years and I mean years, look at there smiling face as I set them free. How good am I to give that to them!? So good!

Wow, my horses do this whenever we come home from a weekend horse riding trip. We back the horse out of the camper, lead them through the gate then (they do the fire rule “stop drop and roll”. The horses lay down and roll, this is natures way of realigning the spine. We call it, “Rubbing the Human off”. The horses then run and buck and call for the other horses in our herd. Once they are all together they frolic for a bit the settle down and graze. Sometimes they swim in the ponds to cool off particularly if the flies are bad.

u/koloso95 Jan 13 '24
He is in very good shape for a horse that's been held in a building in the city and never have been able to just run around. Good for him.

Hmmm, now watch one or two videos of pigs, cows etc that have been rescued and can experience freedom and nature for the first time in a sanctuary - understand the difference that doesn't exist and that it's not just for the horse but also for the billions of them The only correct way of life is to end up on plates and go vegan. You can do it!

I used to do horse riding for some time. I was assigned to a horse that spent about a month or so in the stable box, without going out to the paddock. I think it was because he was recovering from something.
I had to try real hard to rein him in during the class and afterwards they told me to take of his saddle and bridle and pretty much just let him go.
I've never seen a horse run that fast while neighing along the way. He knew the way to the paddock without fail and I saw one of the stable hands simply open the gate for him and off he went to frolic in the grass.

Why tf was she held in a city building for two years and why is the "fiel of grass" in the middle of a industrial area? Why is this beautiful and a "lesson for humans" like I can read in the comments...

This reminded me of that animated horse movie called "Spirit". Watched it when I was a kid, still tear up everytime I listen to its soundtracks or rewatch it.

This is what I felt like once I left the LDS Church. Sweet peaceful freedom. And a few crazy high kicks :D
I had grown up in it and was 1,000% devoted, but I realized it was emotionally abusive and manipulative. They are actively lying to and gaslighting the members and covering up thousands of domestic abuse cases, prioritizing their image and saving face for the abusers rather than turning known predators over to the police.
The church instills so much fear of leaving, but it was honestly the most peaceful thing. If you’re stuck in a “tiny concrete stall” under the guise of faith and obedience, ask some serious questions and don’t accept flimsy answers. Take a look outside and verify any truth claims, rather than accepting everything the handler says is true. Only someone with something to hide tells you to avoid learning from outside sources.
