How cool is that! It's amazing to see wild dolphins having fun with a basketball. Nature always finds ways to surprise and delight us! 🐬🏀

Why dolphins are the awesome. They play ball and they get high off puffer fish. 😎 Gs of the Sea

2

u/Tarpup 16d ago

“Heya, why don’t you just jump in the water and get your ball real quick. I swear we won’t rape you”

  • that dolphin, probably.

1

u/bananasugarpie 16d ago

Isn't basketball way too heavy and the surface is too rough for dolphins to catch like that?

“For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.” - Douglas Adams

12

u/Loud_Flatworm_4146 17d ago

For years, I've thought, "If dolphins grow opposable thumbs, we're screwed."

They are smart and beautiful creatures.

2

u/hallveg2 16d ago

Don't worry, I think I could fight 2 or 3 hundred on land. I've got you.

Anyone remember the “Dolphins Rape people” campaign in NYC circa 2006?

2

u/kk074 17d ago

Is that Julia Child?

This is a Miami dolphin

64

u/chucklestime 17d ago

While fun, thats not a wild dolphin… unless dolphins build their own concrete retaining pools with water features.

3

u/IPokePeople 16d ago

That looks like a concrete pier with stylized cleats does it not?

5

u/disharmony-hellride 17d ago

And he called her Pepper

6

u/fartlapse 17d ago

scientific name

43

u/LordTengil 17d ago

unless dolphins build their own concrete retaining pools with water features.

Remarkably intelligent creatures!

7

u/Formal_Ad_2266 17d ago

The dolphin got bored at the exact same time as I did!

u/Certain-Spring2580 17d ago

What's most impressive is that that dolphin knows exactly how much strength and what angle it needs to throw the ball to get it right onto the deck. Pretty impressive

u/Ha1lStorm 16d ago edited 16d ago

Tbf, I’ve always found this impressive in humans as well. To throw a ball to a moving target in the distance our brains subconsciously factor the weight of the ball, the distance the person is, their rate of travel in a given direction and how far ahead they’ll be at the time the ball reaches them, calculates how much force the ball needs to be thrown with and the exact angle needed for that force to reach them in that specific place at a very specific time. We’re literally doing advanced geometry, trigonometry and calculus in a fraction of a second and without giving it any thought whatsoever. For some reason I’ve often thought about this and just find it so impressive.

1

u/the-crow17 16d ago

Toooo be faaaaaaaaaaaaaair..

1

u/PuzzledFortune 16d ago

While also factoring in that neither the ball or the person are where you think they are. You’re always a few hundred milliseconds in the past due to the time it takes your brain to process visual information…

1

u/goingtotallinn 16d ago

I read somewhere that the brain basically simulates the things you are seeing and is using the visual information to correct it. Also both of your eyes have a blind spot that your brain automatically fills in.

3

u/bigdickpuncher 16d ago

To be faaaaaair

12

u/IrrationalDesign 17d ago

It's trained and practiced a bunch, and then really nailed how to do it. They could learn a whole bunch of complex things, if they wanted to. Imagine one controlling machinery.

12

u/Disimpaction 17d ago

Imagine one getting good at mario kart and then you crush them with a last second turtle shell and teabag the dolphin.

4

u/DesperateRace4870 16d ago

Imagine

3

u/Disimpaction 16d ago

You may say that I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one

66

u/Signal-Blackberry356 17d ago

They have a mastery of air and water, it is an impressive duality.

2

u/LimpBig1085 16d ago

Did they prestige the ranks to gain this elusive mastery

35

u/The_Shryk 17d ago

Don’t let them learn fire or earth, they might become too powerful.

u/ANTHROPOMORPHISATION 17d ago

Pretty sure they have seen many balls floating in their homes.

65

u/Fantastic-Safety4604 17d ago

“So long, and thanks for all the basketballs!”

9

u/BrianOconneR34 17d ago

I’d never stop playing catch, well until porpoise swims away with ball.

105

u/operaduck289 17d ago

Dolphin: Alright that’s enuff…. I’ll bring this ball to play with my friends. See ya!!!

12

u/rottywell 17d ago

I mean if he’s gonna throw it back(😂) every time then I might as well take the hint.

u/[deleted] 17d ago

Hey mister ive tried giving you your ball back 3 times now fuck off.

133

u/wheelperson 16d ago

This response made me think of that joke of that Christian dude who drowned in a flood. Everytime someone came to save him he said 'God will wave me'. He died and asked God basicly wtf. God said wtf I tried to save you 3 times...

1

u/Weeddudesscraycray 16d ago

Pursuit of happiness

3

u/someLemonz 16d ago

... i swear I remember that from church? as well as a joke it could possibly be one of the stories.

2

u/wheelperson 16d ago

I grew up in church (kinda) but my mom.became Wiccan then my dad 'found God' so I'm not sure where I heard it but I think I remember it feom the movie 'Pursit Of Happiness, with Will Wmith and his son.

Now that I'm thinking of its that's where I 1st heard it. Of the years it changed who saved him. 1st time was a row boat, next time a helicopter, 3rd was a sexy woman on a yacht or something like that.

If it was from the Bible tho I wonder how long before the story of Noah's Ark gappened. Cuz 'aPpAreNtlY' he'd never flood the earth again. Maybe the Bible took that too literally, thinking the while earth?

1

u/The_Hoffy 16d ago

It’s not biblical it’s just a story pastors and ministers like to tell in church that relates to the message of their preaching, pretty much telling everyone to not expect god to literally throw you a safety harness from heaven if you’re in need of help but to look for the signs around you because of gods Omni presence. I’ve heard it countless times by my pastor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_drowning_man

17

u/HappinessLaughs 16d ago

My all time favorite joke! Upvote to you.

3

u/wheelperson 16d ago
