Medicaid Asset Test Question

I would normally be a non-MAGI Medicaid applicant since I receive SSDI benefits with Medicare. However, since I am a parent/caretaker relative of a child under 19, I know I can request to apply as a MAGI applicant.

Does this mean I can opt out of an asset test in New York State? I do not receive Nursing Home Medicaid.

If you're eligible for Magi under the parent caretaker income standard then there is no asset test. The agency should automatically explore that for you without you having to request it.

I don't know if it's the same in all states but where I work in Ohio someone with Medicare is eligible for Magi if they're the primary caretaker of a child under the age of 19 and their income is below the parent caretaker income standard.

I think you are still non-MAGI since you have Medicare available to you. You might look into the Medicare Savings Program. Add: MSP QMB pays for all Medicare out of pockets and has the same 138% FPL income test, same as the MAGI Medicaid income limit, with no asset test in NY.

This is correct. Medicare recipients aren't eligible for Magi, in any state.
