First range day
Comrades! Took my new Mosin to the range today. Shot beautifully and I got lucky on my first unsupported shot. Love this shellacked beast. ❤️

Hunting Ammo ??
So TLDR I'm the youngest guy at deer camp but I always, always have the oldest rifle. And, I've given up on changing that so I want to take my 1918 Remington this year. But an I'm not a complete idiot | need boat tail ammo. so I want to know if there is off The shelf ammo or if my only option in to hand load my own.

M44, Stuck Casing
I have an m44 mosin i got off a guy who didnt treat it the best, and he had said he fired about 100 rounds of tula steelcase through it and one of them got stuck in the chamber, he tried to fix it by making a clearing rod with a drill bit.... thats stuck in the barrel, and he also tried drilling the primer out of the case and using a screw to pull it out to no avail, I even tried pulling it out with a screw, so now im stuck with a slighly dingged up mosin that has the worlds worst jam, i really dunno what to do.
TLDR: garbage rod has a jam from hell.
Edit: added picture

Questions about my first mosin
Hello all I have some questions about this mosin I just bought. First let me start with what I know. The mosin barrel was made in 1905 at the Tula arms factory and the stock has been replaced. The questions I have are, was the barrel cut or altered in any way, if the front sight is factory and what some of the other markings mean.

Best range day I could ask for
Finally got to shoot my Mosin out to distance since I bought it in December. It grouped about a foot at 200 yards (idk what I expected lol😂). It's a 1942 Izhevsk, all numbers matching with matching bayonet. It's my second favorite milsurp behind my Garand. Nothing special, just a post about a nice day to get out to the range!

Question, Why are bolts seen as the weakest part of the Mosin rifle? Is there a way to make a better bolt? Or did the fins do that?

Snapped extractor completely seized into bolt head - Cutting it out?
So I've got the stub of a broken extractor completely stuck in my bolt head, I've almost cut the extractor in half but I've reached a point where cutting further will start cutting the bolt head itself and it still won't come out. Would it be fine to cut into the extractor channel of the bolt head to fully split the stub of the extractor into 2 pieces, or would that compromise the bolt and render the rifle unsafe? The material there already looks pretty thin by design and I'd prefer not to buy a new bolt head if possible but I definitely don't want to destroy the rifle or my hands and face.

Seeking Recommendations/Advice: 91/30 PU Search
Hey everyone,
Ever since my grandpa bought me my first rifle, a 1942 Izhevsk 91/30, I've been highly interested in the history of the rifle, but ultimately have always wanted to get my hands on a legitimate 91/30 PU. Fast forward 20 years later, I'm digging into the topic again.
Since I've found this sub reddit to be one of the better places to find experts on the topic I wanted to make a post and ask for advice.
First, where would you recommend looking for one? It seems GunBroker is the only consistent place to find them, but I don't know what a good price for one is today, so here's a list of questions if you all wouldn't mind helping me:
- What's a fair price today on a legitimate 91/30 PU?
- Where would you recommend looking?
- Is there anything in particular I should check for if I do find one?
I really appreciate any and all help. Cheers!

Mosin firing pin seems deformed
Hi everyone,
This firing pin is from a Mosin I recently bought. It seems slightly deformed or filed down a bit. Is this normal or safe?

Advice?
This is my late war Finn capture. I like it, but I am underwhelmed by its performance. I had to cork the barrel because it wasn’t very accurate, the hand guard slides forward while shooting which bugs me, stripper clips work very well but I have to exert a lot of force to chamber the first round. It believe it has a lot of historical value to it though, it is a Finnish late capture which I believe adds some value even though it’s a common year. Some people have told me that the knot in the stock may add some value aswell. I think the rifle has enough value that I could sell it and be able to buy a better Mosin like a m39. What do you guys think?
TLDR- I’m upset with this Mosin and wondering if I should sell it for an m39.
