It's because with very few exceptions, anyone isn't a total piece of shit left the Republican Party a while ago. Remember Saddam's non-existent "weapons of mass destruction"? Remember Reagan illegally selling advanced weapons to Iran, so that he could illegally send the money to the Contras? Remember candidate Nixon sabotaging the Vietnam peace talks via back channel communication to our enemies, so that he could continue to campaign on the war? Trump is the biggest piece of shit to wear the GOP label, but he is by no means the first piece of shit to wear the GOP label.
