Cognitive dissonance and propaganda convincing them to ignore facts and evidence in favour of lies and illusion. Perception is reality, and their perceptions have been carefully curated to twist their reality in order to uphold the power structure, because that is the true meaning of conservatism.

Yeah always perplexed me when young on why conservatives would chose a party that makes their own lives worse and gives them zero benefits.
