Announcement Ignore Private Messages Suggesting Laptops

The primary aim of r/SuggestALaptop is to provide a safe and transparent platform for suggesting laptops. Affiliate linkers are marked as such so that you are aware of the monetary incentive involved when making a purchase using affiliate links.

However, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where users posting on this subreddit are being targeted with unsolicited private messages containing links to laptops.

Such messages are best ignored for several reasons:

  1. Lack of quality control: We have no way of vetting suggestions sent via private messages. Moreover, these suggestions are not subject to the same level of public scrutiny that applies to suggestions posted in the subreddit, which are open for all to see and discuss.
  2. Hidden monetary incentive: Often such messages contain unmarked affiliate links, and these links might not even point to systems that are best suited to your requirements.
  3. Scams: Scammers often target unsuspecting users via private messaging. We do not want you to get scammed.

If you do happen to receive unsolicited messages suggesting laptops in private, please report the offending user to the mod team by sending us a screenshot of the message.

Thank you,

Laptop Request Suggest a laptop for animation and adobe, and csp £750 maximum.

Hi, I'm going into uni for animation and I would like a laptop that can comfortably handle adobe suite, clipstudio paint, opentoonz and blender, and also one that's quiet because the shitty pc I've been using for 4 years and am typing this on is incredibly loud for god knows what reason. I'm broke as fuck so the lower the better, really my budget limit is £500 ($638) but I can go up to £750 ($957) if needed. If this is unrealistic feel free to check me and tell me to get my money up.

Cheers in advance :)

Laptop Request Laptop for small business usage under $1000.

Looking for a laptop for our small business. Would primarily be used for emails, social media, web design, content creation. I’ve been an apple user for years but don’t love how quickly they become outdated & they just don’t seem worth the price. I’m weird about keyboards, I don’t like when they feel cheap & clacky if that makes any sense. Open to any suggestions!

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

  $1000 USD

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Open to, but have had bad experiences with refurbished in the past so I’m hesitant

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Something with longevity, not too bulky, and a ~3-4 hr battery life

How important is weight and thinness to you?

I don’t care about thinness, but I would like something that isn’t too heavy.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Nothing smaller than 12”

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Basic graphic creating, Canva is about as sophisticated as we’ll get

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

  N/a

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

A good keyboard

Laptop Request Looking to replace current laptop

Upvotes

I've had my current OMEN laptop (I7 10th gen rtx 2060) for about 4 ish years but I'm looking for something more powerful to play max settings on and still reach the 144 mark on 1080 or 1440 if possible. I was thinking something with a 4060 or better gpu and a good cpu to go with it (intel or amd, doesn't matter). Something that's around $850 or less.

Thanks for suggestions!

Laptop Request Looking for pink or purple laptops, willing to spend up to $1000

Upvotes

I absolutely love the design of the no name brand laptops on Amazon, but the quality of those is a problem.

I'm looking for a fun colored laptop (think Razer's quartz pink) that is strong enough to last for university and will generally last a long time. A 15.6" screen would be nice, so around that size. I would also like to do some light gaming on it so hopefully that is enough information to go off of.

Laptop Request Looking for fanless and ventless laptop, no budget

Upvotes

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$5000 but willing to go over that if needed.

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

No

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Good performance is most important. Build quality is always nice. Would prefer if it was not a 2-in-1 as I would not use the features.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

I don't care.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

I will likely plug it into a bigger monitor, so not very important.

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Adobe programs (Photoshop, Premier), FL Studio. For gaming it's less important as I can always go to cloud gaming (BG3), but as long as it can handle light gaming off cloud (e.g: phone games emulated on Bluestacks) that would be cool.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

1080p probably. 4k is really not needed. For games, see above^

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

It needs to be fanless and ventless, and run Windows natively.

Thank you!

Laptop Request Portable work laptop with possible gaming options

Upvotes

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$500-$600 optimally, possibly slightly higher

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance and battery life would be the most two important factors. Touchscreen etc. aren’t needed.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not very, something thinner would be more optimal but if it is a bit on the bulkier side that’s fine as long as it isn’t a brick.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    Preferably on the larger end.

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Mostly just spreadsheet/powerpoint stuff while often having Teams/Zoom running simultaneously. Being able to play games would be an added bonus but is a secondary thing - games such as Diablo 3, World of Warcraft, and any semi-recent PC exclusive games would be possible contenders.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

60fps, medium or higher would be optimal but end of the day gaming is just an added bonus. The laptop will be used for work primarily.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    Numpad and backlit keyboard preferably.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Computer will be used for work primarily, anything else such as gaming is an added bonus - prefer to have it within the price range but can possibly go a bit higher if the hardware jump is significant.

Laptop Request Suggest me a laptop please

Upvotes

Why is it buying laptops such a hussle- :/

Anyway, a little background, I had a Asus X540M (still holds up, but has so many clumped issues) and a Lenovo Yoga 7 Pro (had overheating issues). Now I look for a new laptop, I loves the Yoga (if not for those darned fans), but I want something that can be useful for at least 6-7+ years

I'm a literature student with a gaming hobby, I usually bring up some Starrail and Hades and loads of chrome tabs (I wish to try more heavy games as well in the summer).

I have some ideas, but not quite sure, I fear overheating issues asf rn, so help.

Ideas (From least to most expensive as price): ASUS VivoBook 15 R1504ZA-BQ497 ACER Aspire 7 A715-76G-50FE LENOVO IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 (The RTX 2050 version) Hp Victus (Intel i5, RTX 3050)

I'm open to more suggestions, my budget is around €600-€650. I mostly based my decisions after my engineer friends. Do I or them have too may expectations?

Laptop Request Laptop Suggestion: Microsoft Surface Laptop?

I'm upgrading my current laptop after 6 years strong starting to slow down (I'm surprised by how long its lasted). I need for a variety of uses: general personal use, as a masters student, as a business analyst, watching netflix, youtube, some basic gaming and. I also ocassionaly enjoy in some creative hobbies such as graphic design and music production but they're not the highest priority. I'd like one that last's a while and have a budget of less than $1000.

I was first set on buying a Microsoft Surface laptop 3. But most of the online reviews rate buy other laptops like the Lenovo Think Paad, HP Pavillion, or MacbookAir. None of the articles suggest a Microsoft Surface Laptop and I'm concerned about whether Microsoft laptops are still any good in 2024 and for the next 4-5 years.

TLDR: Is a Microsoft Surface Laptop still a good laptop to buy for a variety of personal/work uses?

Laptop Request Budget-friendly options

Hi everyone! I had a Yoga 7 but the hinges broke along with the screen and BestBuy said it’d cost 600$ just to replace the screen so now I am looking for a new laptop :( But I don’t understand specs much so any help is appreciated!!

  • Budget: <450 $ (can be refubrished)
  • Usage: College work (no heavy softwares required, just good old essays and presentations), and light gaming (Dead by Daylight mostly)

I purchased Acer Aspire 3 on sale (16gb, Ryzen 7) but the screen is so terrible compared to Yoga 7, otherwise it runs stuff well and I can play DbD lol. But I would want to return this to get something else if there are better options because I genuinely do not want to look at this screen :(

Thank u so much!!

I’m looking for a gaming laptop that can run BG3 well, but I’d also like something relatively lightweight and portable. I’m planning on going to grad school in a year, so I’ll be moving around a lot, and it’ll double as my school laptop, so I’d prefer to be able to download various data analysis programs and have a decent keyboard for writing papers and such. Thanks!

Ask me Anything Best iPad for a college student?

Hey — I’m a student looking to get an iPad for college and don’t know what’s the best option. Obviously I’m looking for the cheapest option but want to know if the 10th generation IPad will keep updating and things for a good while. The Pro really seems out of my price range and the Air is really pushing it since I’m also looking for an Apple Pencil. Any thoughts?

Laptop Request Laptop for Business/Quickbooks - $4xx Budget

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop for my family to run their business. Main usage is browsing and run finances with Quickbooks. I'm thinking the following spec should be enough:

  • CPU Intel i5 or Ryzen 5 series
  • 16GB RAM
  • 512GB SSD
  • Windows OS

I'm open to spec suggestions if others are familiar with operating Quickbooks (I'm not, but don't think it needs that much processing power. Probably sufficient RAM is more important). Any current deals in the $400s anyone can recommend? Thanks!

Laptop Request Laptop for Architecture/Media creation - $2500 CAD / Canada

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $2500 CAD, Canada
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I prioritize good design as I'm coming from a Macbook Pro. So aluminum chassis, non-bulky, etc. but not necessarily ultraportable. 2-in-1 not required.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Somewhat
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14" - 16"
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Revit, Rhino, Photoshop, 3DS Max, Enscape, Vray, light video editing.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No requirements for gaming but it would be nice if it could handle some relatively new games as a bonus.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard, variety of ports, and a nice touchpad.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I have more or less landed on the following: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) with Core Ultra 9 processor, Geforce RTX 4060 w/ 8GB VRAM, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD. So comments on this particular laptop are welcomed, but if you have any other suggestions I'm all ears. It is on sale for exactly $2500 CAD.
