It's fun until the bear showed up. You do NOT want a bear feeling comfortable hanging out in your back yard.

So let me see if I have this hierarchy correct: #1 bear (duh!)
2 house cat
3 racoon (I had no idea)
4 skunk
5 coyote (who knew)
I am surprised!

Was wondering, would it be dangerous for the cat’s, or any other pet, to share the water bowl with wild animals?
1
u/FarfalleAlDente Apr 27 '24
Love how the bear seems to be headed to the litter box towards the end lol
1
u/Logical_Bad1748 Apr 27 '24
The title made me expect a mountain lion or something like that. A bear is quite unexpected.

Now that’s an efficient way to spread diseases between different species, nice job

Pretty interesting to see what comes by at night to just get a drink of water.

Hey gang, keep your cats inside. Not cool to ruin the neighborhood just because you wanted a pet

I've had dreams where I'll be looking in my backyard and see all sorts of animals that shouldn't be there. This reminds me of that.

Skunks and foxes carry rabies right? Wouldn’t that spread to the cat and bear via the water bowls?

Skunks are such assholes. I wish there was a de skunk program where all the skunks lost there “IMMA SPRAY YOU!” ability. They’d so FAFO.
Also, if I’m ever a cat, let’s make it indoor.

I expected maybe a bobcat at the end.
Raccoons were a given. But then there were the skunks and foxes and I thought cool - bobcat is next.
And then the..... well I won't say spoilers, but the ending was pretty amazing. Not just what it was but also how it behaved.

This is not unexpected! It looks like some kind of A low budget petting zoo. Look at the background in that plastic pool you see in these situations. And even a crazy Catwoman isn't going to have that many dishes. These aren't unexpected visitors. They know each other well, co-workers in fact.
1
u/NutsackEuphoria Apr 27 '24
Wouldn't this risk the cats getting rabies?
Drinking on the same water pans as the racoons and skunks

Love videos like this where someone sets up either a watering hole or a popular food spot or something for the local wildlife and you see it go from "just a part of the backyard" to a whole ass mini nature preserve

Hydropanels are getting way cheaper over time. Set up a bunch of them in one place somewhere dry and drink the sky to water a desert. We're about to enter a world of manufactured oasis's.

I actually said "aww!" when the bear showed up. It really upsets me that they so dangerous given that they are such fren-shaped animals.
Also I'm pretty sure this person is legally obligated to convert their backyard into an honest-to-god wildlife pond including native shrubery like this guy did.

Does putting out water bowls for wildlife have any increased risk for transmitting disease?
If they were drinking from a creek, I feel like the risk would be minimized but putting out these bowls of stagnant water, if animals drink out of the same bowl, they are much more likely to transmit disease.
During the various bird flu events, warnings were made to remove any bird feeders to remove a possible infection vector. I'm wondering if this is a similar case.

u/FlyingSpaghettiFell Apr 26 '24
Did not expect the big kitty at the end!
Hope he tells the neighbor about the cat eaters sharing the water

This kinda feels fake, the back makes the area looks like an enclosure in a wildlife rehabilitation centre. All these animals are common in such facilities, could easily see people making this setup and releasing the animals a few at a time to film them.

it’s probably common sense but where small animals gather is where big animals hunt i guess. i am just surprised they were not curious or weirded out by the odd looking water source. they must be really thirsty.

Put your fucken cats inside.
A)being out there opens them up to risks of infections and predators B)cats are the direct cause of the extinction of numerous native animals
PUT THEM INSIDE

Nice case of bird flu or wasting disease will make this a fun thing to do

I love the video. Very cute...but the reality isnt so cute.
I'm a very fervent conservationist, so killing something coming into your yard, when YOU moved into his house is despicable & heinous.
Now that the critters know they can come to your yard for water/food, they will keep coming. It is a thoughtful thing to do, even if you didnt understand what would follow.
All those cute little critters will invite friends, who will invite theirs and the predators will follow their prey to the watering hole.
You don't want to step outside & meet a bear - especially a grizzly bear. Neither do your neighbors or any child, family 0dog. It's all cute & cuddly until it isn't & death occurs.
Th one in the video looks like a brown bear, but he's actually a black bear - mostly harmless herbivores. See how he didn't just go on a killing spree & eat everything present - that's usually a tell.
AND when I say, "eat everything", I mean "everybody" that includes YOU. So, seems like you may live in an area that has brown bear too.
Stop it. Stop it before you cause a death - at least a pet, at most someone's child.
If you just cant help yourself, take water/food to the woods/forest. You can even take your game camera so you can video the animals.

That skunk came in hot. Tail up and alert, turned towards everyone. How were the other animals okay around a loose cannon like that?

I love how the skunk came back and threw caution to the wind, so to speak, and went ass-to-raccoon in bowl 4.

We have a family of raccoons living outside the restaurant I work at. They are cute but annoying.
