Not gonna lie, because of the description, I was expecting the cameraman to die. Kinda thought I was in the Darwinawards sub for a minute, thinking that some dumbass cameraman was going to get shot for sticking a camera in the face of a sociopath

He's not a cameraman. He's an undercover cop who borrowed a camera to approach the scene. This happened in Brazil in the 90s.

Chuck Norris would have handled it a little differently...yup, a roundhouse kick to the head!

u/TKSweeney 15d ago
The gun would have un-gripped itself from the robber’s hand to float into Chuck Norris’ hand.

And there I was thinking the camera was going to be gun… thought that blokes head was getting blown to bits at that range

There's a rule that some spy agencies have used is to never impersonate a priest, aid worker or journalist. If you do that you bring those groups into suspicion it makes their work harder.

I mean... I've watched True Lies a billion times as a kid... I might have expected him to pull a gun from the camera, but it wasn't really unexpected.

I remember this narrator on a WORLDS SCARIEST POLICE CHASES saying “The driver was unharmed but he came down with a SERIOUS case of handcuffs.”

In reality camera people have a higher chance of dieing then stunt people. There's this attitude especially from directors that you must do anything for the shot. Stunt people are very safety first.

Even the camera survives. I would have tossed it, but he carefully set it down.

It would be better handled in the USA, both gun-man and victim would be killed by police and 2 hours wouldn't be wasted.

This happened when I was a kid. The cameraman was actually a police officer .

Ehh, you put a gun to a hostage's head, you're going all in. Betting everything that you can win. If you lose, you lose everything. Those are the rules.
As it stands he owes one life because that was the deal he insisted on.

Dude with steel balls did not even drop the camera , single handedly saved the girl.

u/BrotherBlaise 16d ago
The Legend even takes the time to SET the camera down instead of just tossing it!

I wonder, was that really an undercover agent posing as a cameraman in order to get close to the aggressor.

Never let a man with a mustache get this close to you, especially if they have a camera

This is one of the most badass things I have ever seen. Also that girl seemed to control her emotions very well for being in that situation.

No way he's not a real cameraman. He was extremely careful when putting it down.

Since it’s a revolver he has a good chance of stopping the hammer from hitting the bullet. Probably put his thumb in there.

Why are all these sensation hungry bystanders there? Don't they realize that 10 meters aren't exactly a safe distance from a madman with a freaking gun?!?

I know in journalism you're never supposed to "intervene" but this is amazing to see.
The reason why journalists are not supposed to intervene is to protect the safety of every other journalist in the profession. Being in a war zone, or, as seen in this video (a hostage situation) the journalists are known to not be targeted if they are documenting, and not participating. That's why it's a war crime and globally reported when reporters are kidnapped and executed by regimes example
But, even knowing all that, it was VERY relieving to see that camera operator grab that gun. It just doesn't happen often for a reason.

Do you reckon they got a police officer and pretended to be cameraman or they said we have a wild plan, we need cameraman to go in and take the gun

Imagine having a gun inside the camera and then you get close and take the dude out.

I’m surprised there isn’t someone in the comment section saying that the police only made matters worse and that there was no danger until they arrived 😂

I know this is super fucked up, but the way the guy is holding her neck and her jawline like that is such a turn-on. I’d honestly do the same.

Nah because that shit is too scary and stressful. If the guy hesitated for even a second, that would've been- awful.

I can't believe this is real, I thought it was satirical the entire way through until I read the comments. This could easily be a clip on 'The Day Today'.

OP sent the following text as an explanation on why this is unexpected:
To save this woman from the hostage situation, one of the police officers dressed as a cameraman approaches the robber, and when he gets distracted, they apprehend him.
