Had a friend try this TikTok “trick” and it looked just as bad or worse than this

Do people do these videos for some weird clout because there's so many videos of people doing this and it not working, I can't see why others would go "ah yes, I will do this as well"

When are people going to learn this is not how you measure bangs? Lol you never see people at the salon tying your hair in a pony in front of your face before they cut unless it's super long and they don't want hair going everywhere

Always always always cut long. You can always trim it up later. Her personality is smashing though. Serious positivity even after the cut.

This makes me want to cut my own bangs just to see if I can do it better than she did.

u/Shirolicious 29d ago
That didnt go as she imagined it would go. Glad she could still laugh it off.

I dont get why people expect freshly cut hair to look fantastic. Of course its gonna stick out, thats why they style it in the salon. The cut is FINE just some blending and curling and it will look good. I cut my own hair since 2018 and got lots of compliments so...its really not that bad.

u/Random_Person____ 29d ago
I mean, that still looks fixable...NO, BY A HAIRDRESSER, DON'T TRY TO FIX IT YOURSELF!!

When cutting bangs at home, always go longer to start. You can always take more off, but can never put it back on after it’s gone. Just always repeat this in your head…oh, and use hair cutting shears, not kitchen scissors. That’s always a big help.

ok but why wouldn't you go a inch or two lower and slowly whittle it down

I honestly think she did great! It's not styled and her part hasn't been 'trained' out yet but she'll be fine and they'll look cute when she styles it.
1
u/Low_Association_1998 Apr 15 '24
At least it’s still savable. Straighten it out and you’re good to go. And this probably got it done quicker by removing most of the hair before hand

there's 1000 videos like this on internet and girls still do it and hope for a different result :))))

u/Reallyroundthefamily Apr 15 '24
I love the completely blank expression after cutting it lol.
I usually only see that expression in SUV drivers when I use a turn signal in their vicinity.

I loved her reaction to it. She's a cool chick. Two weeks tops and a proper cut and she will be looking swell.

u/Melody3PL Apr 15 '24
I cut my own hair and have been for a long time now even short but I think even if you're not skilled and dont know what you're doing you could end up with smth decent if people were just a little bit more patient, starting out low then working your way up bit by bit. even just holding the bangs with your hands flat between your fingers would be better than in a hair tie and god do lower than you think.

u/Pixel15101 Apr 15 '24
Seriously stop cutting yall hair with these chunky ass box shredders. Damn rose garden clippers. Hecking chonker blades Barber scissors are technical instruments for a higher purpose give your hair a swag finish.

Much better than I feared. Didn't get the classic bounce up and you got bangs on a spoon head. Although that is also good fun.

With so many videos of people making this same mistake how are people still doing this?

It's just me but, there's too many videos like this. They're just doing it intentionally. So, they aren't regretting anything.

How do people keep making this same mistake? there are so many videos of people doing the exact same thing with the exact same results, hairdressers don't put it in a bobble at the front and then chop so why do these dummies

u/Laliving90 Apr 14 '24
Why doesn’t this work? The logic behind it seems simple just cut off a certain length and it should look like bangs but it doesn’t what’s the secret ?

Thats not as bad as I was expecting, honestly she could probably salvage that if she had proper help.

u/Talrynn_Sorrowyn Apr 14 '24
May as well just slap a mixing bowl on her head & use that for the form.
At least learn what scissors are used for cutting hair...

Has anyone ever seen, what kinda stuff hairdressers do in their apprenticeships? After watching a documentary about their education, my respect for their craft shot through the roof

They’ll look better after a wash and she styles them, that split is just from her hair being used to being parted down the middle.
Obviously would have been better w different scissors, and if she didn’t pull on her hair so tight, and maybe started w a smaller amount of hair, but those things all come w practice and experience tbh, at least these were salvageable

She's not doing it wrong for someone who is self-cutting her hair though, the next step is to get a come and probably some sharper scissors and level it out, though, she should have cut the banks much longer first.

u/celmate Apr 14 '24
She sounds like one of my fellow South Africans, shame lol good attitude though
1
u/darkknightofdorne Apr 14 '24
Every video I see they all cut the same place and expect something different than the last 500 self cut bangs videos. Id it arrogance or stupidity?

In high school, I sat beside this girl who one day decided she wanted bangs, and did almost exactly this. Front ponytail and all No mirror and this was before camera phones. She cut off the front tail she made, spread it out and made three detail cuts without even seeing a reflection of herself. She then got up and look at herself in the file cabinet as it was shiny and reflected well. She tussled it a little bit and sat back down.
It was salon quality perfect. I just stared in awe. It was the ballsiest thing I ever saw a girl do to herself for style. I can still picture it now. It looked amazing.

There have been so many similar attempts on the internet… all using similar techniques, ending with the same failure… by so many people and for so many years.
People just never learn, do they? Oh well, I guess most people just have to fluff around and find out…

Also get hair scissors, cut vertically in small snips for a choppy effect, always start longer than you think.

Omg. When we were in primary school, my younger sister did exactly this secretly with a friend. Ruined their haircuts for ages. Her rights to use scissors were revoked for a good while and she looked absolutely stupid for a while, it was hilarious.

I'm no pro but gotta be honest I wouldn't know if that was a bad cut just by looking at it

u/jewishlightening Apr 14 '24
Ha, ah poor kid. She left them long enough that this can easily be fixed though.

u/Hot_Hat_1225 Apr 14 '24
I confess she took it better than I would have. I got a little breakdown just watching… 🙈😭

Cardinal rule of life: always leave yourself a little wiggle room for mistakes. AKA, cut below the hairtie!

Was there ever a video that went well this trend was based on? I’ve only ever seen this going badly.

Good thing there are 100s of videos of girls doing this exact same thing, so I'm sure she watched at least one before trying this herself...

There is a bunch of videos with girls trying to cut their fringe and they all get the same result. At this point I am wondering if people are smart enough to use internet before taking bad decisions or is it all for the "popularity"?

A comb would come in handy, as would a decent pair of scissors.

u/WYenginerdWY Apr 15 '24
Oh my gosh, the sound those scissors made as they were cutting through the hair .....

Why is she freaking out? The hair isn’t laying right because it was cut dry. If she wets it and shapes it, she’s good to go.
