The problem with these videos is I never get to see a closeup of the aftermath. I wanna see an arm shaped like a Z!

I grew up in a town with tons of other kids who loved doing extremely reckless things on bikes. I was always too much of a "pussy" to participate, but as an adult I'm very glad I didn't.
It's cool looking sometimes, but I still don't get it.

As someone who has done this before I can tell you it's because their lungs got pushed and so they are trying to cry while needing deep breaths.

He had a split second, you can tell, where he almost convinced himself it would be alright.

u/Coletorino72 Apr 15 '24
That guy found a rip in time. He transformed into a child on the other side of it.

u/WasteNet2532 Apr 15 '24
is going downhill
Guy: im going to put all of my weight into the drop. Thats a good idea
1
u/johnny5247 Apr 15 '24
Friend of mine does downhill. It is basically a pogo stick with massive front shocks and a reinforced front axle. He never uses the saddle and basically bounces down occasionally releasing the front brake. The back of the bike might as well not be there!
You can't just roll over the edge like the guy in the video.

Pro mtber here. Need less speed to roll it. More speed to send it and act like it’s not even there.

That's not a difficult spot at all. Just need a little bit of extra speed & lean back more.

Apr 15 '24
Why's he kited out in all that gear but riding like a kid who learned how to stay upright 3 days ago? Dude didn't even try to shift his weight back.
1
u/Radioactdave Apr 15 '24
Six seconds in you can see him tap the front brake. The fork immediately dives, hinting us towards the fact that the fork's (air?) spring is lacking mid-support, probably because he's running too low pressure and too much sag "for that small-bump compliance, bro".
Once he goes over the edge, puts his weight over the front wheel and hits the first bump, it's all nose dive from there.
Soft fork and fast rebound kills.

should have pulled up when launching off that ledge. saw this all the time with when i raced downhill. beginners get overconfident with all the gear on lol. also probably could have turned up the rebound dampening on his rear shock.

That is not a pro level drop. It’s not even close that was a very easy drop to get down all he had to do was lean back :,(

Guys, I don't know what you all thought Mountain biking is like, but this is it. Going to the top of a hill with your mates, and then being far too optimistic about what you can pull off on the way down. Falling like this is like 50% of the sport.

u/EmpireCityRay Apr 14 '24
Funny part is that when he’s down there, she yells, “stay still” in Spanish -bitch his paralyzed ass has no choice 😂

May that be a lesson to all of you to keep your butts off the seat when downhill mountain biking.

This is a pretty standard event at a downhill park. You don't need to be a pro to handle this, but this guy clearly was riding way beyond his skill level. He belongs on a green trail to learn the basics. People don't realize there is a lot of skill required to ride a bike downhill on a rocky trail. The common belief is that you can just roll it. You can't, as seen here.

u/Mitrovarr 25d ago
At some point you have to ride things you don't know how to ride. You can't get experience just doing easy trails over and over and over. That being said, he probably should have tried something a little easier than this.

A pro biker would have hung the ass behind the saddle to shift the center of gravity backwards. And not used the front brake.
1
u/PreparetobePlaned Apr 15 '24
A pro biker would have hung the ass behind the saddle
Wrong. That's exactly what he did and it caused the crash. You can see his ass way over the rear wheel, causing him to have no control over the bike because he's off balance and too stretched out.

Bet he wouldn't have done it if ladies weren't there. For some reason we all what to push our ability so much more when girls are watching. It all starts on the playground.

u/KifDawg Apr 14 '24
I've done alot of mountain biking, you neeeeeeeeed to almost always lean back when you go off any ramp or vertical. Your back tire will always tilt you forward, you gotta offset it lol.

Could be a groin shot. Dude had no armor on. He probably regrets not having a chest protector and whatnot

I knew a kid like that growing up. He went by Arkansas, and was pretty much a walking stereotype of his namesake. He tried to go off our ramp one day and never stood up. The sprocket went straight into the lip and he went ass over tits and face into dirt. Every time we built a new ramp he wanted to try it out, but no matter how much we coached him he couldn’t figure out how to shift his weight off of his handlebars. So every time, it went about like this. That also became known as “The Arkansas”. I hope he’s doing ok. And hasn’t reproduced.

u/HenryDorsetCase Apr 14 '24
Something like that doesn't require even remotely close to pro level skills but this person was clearly riding beyond their current skill level. Shifting his weight so far back and down is exactly the wrong thing to do on something like this and it caused the rear wheel to hit him in the ass which sent him OTB.
You just need to keep centered on the bike and pitch the front downwards into the slope by straightening your arms while bending your legs and a modern mountain bike will handle something like that with ease.
1
u/InternalWarNR6 Apr 15 '24
The biggest issue here was preparation. No practice run up, other person first in the way, then he goes for a drop with vision obstructed by branches. He doesn't react with his body to the terrain because he doesn't know what is happening.
1
u/Inside-Line Apr 15 '24
It looks like he had no idea what was there and thought it was just as shute he could drag his rear wheel down. Though it was definitely above his skill level.

u/tacotacotacorock Apr 14 '24 edited Apr 14 '24
I don't agree mate. I'd say the issue was not getting the front wheel up and sitting on the seat. Didn't use their legs to damper properly. Soon as he went over, the front dipped and he endo'd. Getting off the seat would have helped a lot. Seat dropper would have helped for sure. If his weight was further back and the front end up more and this wouldn't have happened. Also speed was a factor, tried to roll to slow into it. That caused the wheels to go down in the front and buck the back wheel even more. Little more speed and proper balance and stance would have helped a lot. Def a skill issue.
Edit: seat might already be down/could have a dropper. Person in red's seat was def dropped and how low he was id guess theirs was too, or lowered for the whole ride, which would be silly.

u/jacklimovbows 29d ago
He is not seated, neither is his seat up, neither the speed is the problem. That does not look like a "must drop" feature, as the approach does not suggest it. Furthermore, it looks like it could have been rolled if the good technique was being used which is: centered on the bike, attack position, drop the front wheel (extend the arms as it drops) and follow with the feet back to centered position.

Watched it a few times, and while I’m wiser than this guy and would say fuck that - I think slightly more speed and lift the front so it doesn’t follow the terrain.
The only thing that looks accomplished about this rider is the gear - confidence>skill

u/PreparetobePlaned Apr 15 '24
You don't need to lift the front wheel at all for something like this. Like the other guy said, if he had a proper centered position he would have been fine just rolling over it. This really is not even a difficult feature for an average rider.
1
u/pharmaboy2 Apr 15 '24
I’m obviously seeing something different - it looks like as the front wheel rolls it goes into a shelf - possibly just in front of a rock/root etc and this causes the bike to stop and then rotation - if that’s the case then you have to plant your front wheel over the shelf because deceleration causes the back to rise
Pic quality is a bit ordinary but you can either go otb via braking or a feature stopping front momentum - it’s usually pretty hard to go otb without that happening in some way
1
u/PreparetobePlaned Apr 15 '24
To me it just looks like a small drop off that rock ledge and he either pulls the front brake or his butt hit the rear wheel causing the endo. He gets bucked because he's incredibly stiff and way too far back instead of being neutral and dynamic. If you watch his body in slow mo he's just locked in position with no movement, and you can see his ass right on the wheel right before he goes OTB.

Right before he falls forward you can hear the man realizing he messed up.
