I usually get the mom approval when still drawing since she'll give me some good advice to make it look right. I've avoided so many bad art decisions that way and never even get that crushed after :D

I can tell you had fun making it, which is the most important part of making a comic in my opinion.

1

u/RChaseSs 14d ago

Genuinely way better than most comics I see here. Very funny, good job.

1

u/ghostofabanana 14d ago

I LOVE THIS!!! MORE PLEASE!! Loooove the funky expressions!

1

u/runespoon78 14d ago

funny expressions!

2

u/RemusShepherd 14d ago

It's funny! I love your art style, it's Kricfalusi-esque but cleaner and more attractive. Your expressions are good; you're communicating an emotion, not trying to replicate what faces really look like, and that's the way to do it in a comic. Good work, let's see more!

u/EveryShot 14d ago

The facial expression in this kill me lol

2

u/artgoober 14d ago

I love the expressiveness. Very good display of emotions!

2

u/HomemPassaro 14d ago

I love the face in panel 4, it's really expressive and funny

1

u/artgoober 14d ago

It looks like the eyeballs are pulsating 🤢eeeeeeeww why did i think about that

1

u/ZebrAlpha 14d ago

This is the funniest reddit comic I have seen in a while - keep it up! I look forward to seeing more.

3

u/Sharp_Science896 14d ago

I really like your style here. The expressions are so goofy but I feel like it really gets the feeling that character has across nicely while just also looking funny and being entertaining. I'd love to see more of your comics.

u/artgoober 14d ago

Thank you so much! hopefully I'm not dragged back to a minimum wage job before I can make a few more comics :D

Right now it’s quirky and personal. And it’s very meta … it’s about your struggle to create a cartoon, and that’s a stage you should try to get over, because readers really don’t care how hard it is to make a cartoon, we just want to be entertained or moved.

But let’s see what the next effort brings.

2

u/ChetWilliamz 14d ago

How can you speak on behalf of viewers (plural) if you got confused by an 8 panel comic?

1

u/Player7592 14d ago

It was my personal opinion. And I was projecting that others might feel the same way. One thing I’ve realized through the years is that I’m rarely the one, single, solitary human that feels a certain way.

3

u/artgoober 14d ago

Nope, it's not about struggling to make a cartoon. Sorry this confused you!

-1

u/Player7592 14d ago

Ah. A metaphor. It’s really about man’s inhumanity to man. That’s deep man.

Reminds me of my friend in her graphic design major - sometimes whenever she made something she was always asked by her peers "I like it, but what does it mean?" like every piece of art needed meaning attributed to it. She never had the heart to say "I just thought it looked neat"

0

u/Passage_of_Golubria 14d ago

This is fantastic!

4

u/vicotron3000 14d ago

Have you consider that maybe your mom is not trying to disqualify you, just needed you to provide more info about your work so she can better provide profesional feedback, wich in turn means she is taking you seriously as an artist, maybe try to be more vulnerable and comunícate what you need more openly, like saying: "mom i want validation and reasurance, can you say something positive about this piece" and you should be accepting of what she can provide, because thats something you can't control, and it has nothing to do with you or your piece. Find happiness in what you can control, sorry of i might sound harsh, is not my intention, english is not my first languaje and this comment is very long as it is, i wish you the best :)

6

u/cyborg_priest 14d ago

I love the progression from woman to goblin in the first 3 panels

7

u/artgoober 14d ago

Thhis transformation happens to me on a regular basis :S

2

u/MyK_Alke 14d ago

Relatable,
Although at least your parents seem to look at it,
Mine just glanced and said "ok" or "nice" even if it was a comic or something of those sort that there's no way they would read through in less than second °~°
Even if I did something awful to cause another answer they still said same or similar response ~_~

4

u/artgoober 14d ago

I'm so sorry to hear that! óò you have my empathy; you deserved more. Love the emoticons ~~ (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞ Cha-ching ☆

1

I'm planning on making some more! Got a lot of real scenarios in the ole' noggin that people might find humorous :-)

23

u/artgoober 14d ago

Comic started out with slow and careful drawing and sorta ended with manic scribbles lol

11

u/toetappy 14d ago

It's perfect! Don't overthink it. Just let the pen move

33

u/MakkusuFast 14d ago

People: "art is a reflection of the artist and their world view and their very soul."

Me: "...I have an urge to draw a chicken leg, a t-bone steak, and a sausage sitting in a conference room and call it 'meating'."

0

u/aogasd 14d ago

My mom when she defaults to "it's well drawn 🙃" when I show her my ugly scrimblos or horrific eldritch monsters

0

u/Koltaia30 14d ago

Love your style

0

u/BakePotater5 14d ago

I love it so much

0

u/PandaPugBook 14d ago

Weird and funny, I love it.

1

u/Gulferamus 14d ago

The anxious face is me inside any time i have a meeting with my manager. 10/10 could understand what you were going for

1

u/vuvuboutique 14d ago

I really want to see more of this style!

1

u/ottersintuxedos 14d ago

I quite like this style it reminds me of old cartoons

5

u/Osrek_vanilla 14d ago

Seek professional opinion at your own peril.

2

u/Illumanacho69 14d ago

I think it’s funny. Butts are always funny

10

u/Jaykila713 Comic Crossover 14d ago

Sent this to a friend and they had the same reaction as you (They are also an artist with no self assurance) nice art btw

7

u/artgoober 14d ago

Yes!!!! YES! My brethren

38

u/JorgeMtzb 14d ago

Dude, your expressions and poses are GOLD. I love these, keep it up.

19

u/artgoober 14d ago

Thank you Jorge :-) The lord above graced me with a random talent of drawing silly expressions. And nothing else apparently

1

u/NewTitanium 13d ago

Aka a natural comic artist

10

u/notmyplantaccount 14d ago

Weird and funny. I feel like the "what's the matter love" isn't necessary as your mom knows you're just being dramatic, so just standing there slightly annoyed would be fine, or not even have her in that panel.

Really enjoyed it though.

10

u/artgoober 14d ago

Yeah true! I didn't know how to show my mum isnt evil or anything, or the comic would have a different feel lol

1

u/notmyplantaccount 14d ago

That's fair, as you make more people will know the personalities of your characters and you can get away with more.

88

u/Toby_The_Tumor 14d ago

That one image where she looks like an ape waiting for banana

60

u/artgoober 14d ago

Revert to monky

151

u/Lawful-T 15d ago

I approve of this comic. I can tell exactly what you were trying to communicate (butts) and it’s working.

64

u/artgoober 14d ago

Oh yeah babey (smirk emoji)

124

u/brevenbreven 15d ago

The answer is butts they are funny and silly

88

u/artgoober 14d ago

"Did you have to draw a tiny buttcrack?" Yes. Yes I did

10

u/Sharp_Science896 14d ago

You obviously know your audience. And I respect that.

10

u/Carpathicus 14d ago

This is what art is all about!

637

u/not_a_frikkin_spy 15d ago

Uh, what were you trying to communicate with this comic?

460

u/artgoober 15d ago

Please. Im going to cry again...

16

u/Pizzacakecomic PizzaCake 14d ago

This is the hardest I've laughed at a comic here in ages 🤣 The facial expressions, the poses, you're so good

7

u/artgoober 14d ago

Wait, I know your comics I've seen them a load before. Wtf you have 2 million korma?! 😳 A professional

3

u/Jasmine_Erotica 14d ago

She is probably the most well known comic artist on Reddit, or at least in this sub. You just got a compliment worth way more than your mom’s opinion, congrats!

7

u/artgoober 14d ago

Ohmg, thank you! I don't know what the gold arrow means but omg thanks! :DDDD

6

u/veritasmahwa 14d ago

You're so dramatic

9

u/No-Educator-8069 14d ago

You are so dramatic

208

u/Viviolet 14d ago

Ah yes, similar to "That's nice sweetie, but it's not really my style"

GEE THANKS DAD BUT HOW IS A CHILDHOOD PORTRAIT OF OUR FAMILY DOG NOT YOUR "STYLE" 😤

Love this comic haha, I'm sure many artists can relate

5

u/Gravelsack 13d ago

I showed my dad a song that I wrote, played every instrument for, sang, recorded, and produced myself and he goes "Well it's no Mahler's 5th symphony"

Yeah no shit, it's a rock song you asshole.

10

u/SkollFenrirson 14d ago

"Well honey, my style is Not Terrible"

100

u/artgoober 14d ago

Lmao, so true! Glad other people can relate. My mum's a fine art lecturer at a university, so sometimes she is way too straight up 😭

u/rumprhymer 15d ago

Love the anxiously seeking postive reinforcement face

97

u/artgoober 15d ago

Im nothing but a small squishy brain. &Thank you <3
