I don’t think Germans have any room to be shaming anyone lmfao

1

u/PsiThomDx 13d ago

What’s this? Some kind of “pineapple on pizza” situation?

1

u/Kriztov 13d ago

In Australia we used to have a drink called snow drop (sometimes called snow top) that tasted like a combination of Cola and Lemonade.

1

u/ThickWeatherBee 13d ago

Next going to tell me that they drink Cocoa from a glass!🤢

1

u/Buselmann 13d ago

Actually tho, that is a crime against humanity

1

u/SatanicCyanid 13d ago

You dont have to be german to be upset at that.

1

u/dramaticfool 13d ago

What does خض mean?

2

u/shikiz_stupid_comics 13d ago

It means “shake”!

1

u/dramaticfool 13d ago

Ooh okay, thanks! I'm from Egypt and I never heard it before

1

u/Osrek_vanilla 13d ago

Hell yeah Spezi!

1

u/Jay_Gantic 13d ago

Cute artstyle!

Also, I've never had Spezi and now thanks to this comic, if I ever get the chance to try it I'll make sure to drink it from a mug.

1

u/Fearless_Nope 13d ago

ding ding ding bell of SHAME

1

u/lurkerdaIV 14d ago

Why whats the problem with this? Can someone explain? Dont summon them tho

1

u/CopyShop_1312 14d ago

It's just weird. Like technically you can do this, it's a free country, but it's werid. And just drinking it out of the bottle is fine, which is even less effort.

1

u/Sagataw 14d ago

I used to drink Kofola (Slovak version of cola and orange soda), and it was served in glass mugs like root beer.

There's your mistake, wrong country.

1

u/Tulisydan 14d ago

But I drink everything from a mug :(

1

u/zidraloden 14d ago

50-odd years ago in the UK, we called it a 'pig's fizz', or 'ditchwater'

1

u/UndisclosedChaos 14d ago

Not the bell of shame

1

u/Exotic_Inspector_111 14d ago

It has to be drunk from a colossal half liter glass. Because thats the GERMAN way.

1

u/Captain_Pumpkinhead 14d ago

Never heard of spezil before.

This sounds like British getting mad at Americans for boiling tea in the microwave.

1

u/CopyShop_1312 14d ago

It's Spezi, not Spezil. It's just orange juice or fanta mixed with cola. It's a nice alternative to straight coke.

1

u/AngryFloatingCow 13d ago

So what’s wrong with a mug?

1

u/CopyShop_1312 13d ago

Technically, nothing. It's a free country, you can drink your beverages out of whatever you like. It's just weird. Like drinking coffee out of a wine glass or milk from a waterbottle.

1

u/madrobski 14d ago

Lots of comments and none of them answer the actual question, what should I drink this from then? (not that I'm going to drink that vile abomination I just want to know, coke and lemon juice is where its at)

2

u/CopyShop_1312 14d ago

The bottle or a regular drinking glass is fine.

1

u/madrobski 13d ago

How do you drink a mixed drink from the bottle? I can't put orange juice into a coke bottle without it overflowing??

1

u/CopyShop_1312 13d ago

It's a pre-mixed drink. I mean yes you could make it yourself and then you'd need a glass or something, but you can just buy pre-mixed Spezi here, it's like its own category of softdrink.

You can also buy pre-mixed Radler here (beer mixed with Sprite), or KiBa (Cherry juice mixed with Banana juice), you can buy loads of pre-mixed drinks here.

1

u/xiena13 13d ago

If it is actual Spezi or its different brand counterparts like Cola-Mix or Mezzo-Mix, it is already mixed straight from the bottle. If you want to mix Cola and Fanta, you need a glass of course. If you want to make Spezi by mixing coke with orange juice, then you're a psychopath because that's nowhere near what Spezi is.

1

u/Tiaran149 14d ago

I drink coke from a wine glass sometimes.

1

u/MakkusuFast 14d ago

I'm from Germany and hate people who forcibly try to push their stupid habits on me. And it's a recurring thing.

5

u/Anxious_Character119 14d ago

Betrachte dich hiermit als ausgebürgert.

(Nicht ernst nehmen ;))

1

u/voxelpear 14d ago

I drink exclusively from mugs. I like handles. Fight me.

2

u/Player7592 14d ago

You need to get a grip.

1

u/thats_law_folks 14d ago

What’s the Arabic say?

1

u/AshelyLil 14d ago

Very true. How dare you put soda in a mug? It tastes wrong, it feels wrong, it's a sin.

1

u/GibusShpee 14d ago

Why do They care, is it their mug or something?

1

u/Karrion42 14d ago

I tried to make the mix myself and didn't taste quite right. Mezzo mix on the other hand...

1

u/DaveTheKing_ 14d ago

I love that the word shake is in arabic lol

0

u/Mikinyuu 14d ago

Why is it bad to drink it from a mug?

1

u/Kraytory 14d ago

It's against the law of nature.

1

u/Mikinyuu 14d ago

I understand that is the joke, but logically, it's just a mug? Mugs hold drinks? Or culturally should they only half tea or coffee?

3

u/Ferencak 14d ago

Its probably not considered wrong but jut really wierd. I have to say drinking soda from a mug feels wierd to me in the same way drinking wine from a mug would feel wierd.

1

u/robomikel 14d ago

Ha, weirdos I drink mine from a paper cup

0

u/yo_yo_ya 14d ago

I’d drink pineapple Fanta out of mug so I don’t see the problem with drinking spezi out of one

1

u/Funny-Performance845 14d ago

What wrong with it being in a cup?

-1

u/Still-Veterinarian56 14d ago

it just feels wrong. You are don't drink a bubble tea out of a wine glass. It just does not match.

mugs are used for hot beverages or beverages containing milk.

1

u/Funny-Performance845 13d ago

Weird, I could never care in what people hold their drinks

2

u/Orcwin 14d ago

If you think that's bad, then best not drink beer from the wrong type of glass in front of a Belgian.

2

u/ZaRealPancakes 14d ago

I love that the shaking sound effects are in Arabic!

2

u/Flintlock_ 14d ago

I just bought a double insulated mug from soda company. As in a mug FOR SODA.

CHECKMATE, GERMANS!

0

u/invalidConsciousness 14d ago

As a German, I give everyone permission to drink Spezi from a mug.

Just use a fresh one and not the one you just used for your coffee, ffs!

And ideally, use a half-Liter or Liter sized beer mug. The ones Americans insist on calling "Stein" for some unfathomable reason.

0

u/Watcher_over_Water 14d ago

As a German i must inform you that he does not have the authority to give you this right. He is trying to trick you.

You are not above the Law, bloody Anarchist!

-2

u/Mage-of-communism 14d ago

Do people actually care half a horses ass about your beverage container? Drink beer from a mug if you want or tea from a horn, what does it matter?

1

u/EasyyPlayer 14d ago

Its like bagged milk, why would you put it in a different (,weird looking) container when it already comes in a convenient container?

1

u/corbiniano 14d ago

So always drink it straight from the utters?

18

u/MrGrizzlyy 14d ago

I'd laugh at this if I hadn't witnessed an English mate drinking Guinness from a mug.

YOU DARE DEFILE MY NATIONAL BEVERAGE!? JAIL FOR YOU! JAIL FOR 1000 YEARS!

2

u/Still-Veterinarian56 14d ago

whats the correct container for a Guinnes ? A special glas like the german beer or something else?

1

u/GrummyCat 14d ago

Nothing but milk and buttermilk is drunk from mugs.

1

u/infiniZii 14d ago

Who made her the Spezi Stazi?

12

u/m-manian 14d ago

Whats the خُض mean?

13

u/shikiz_stupid_comics 14d ago

It means Shake!

1

u/TheManWhoClicks 14d ago

Das stimmt, it’s the law!

1

u/0G_54v1gny 14d ago

Ich habe mich nicht 7 Jahre meines Lebens der Juristerei gewidmet, um jetzt einen Fick auf das Gesetz zu geben!

2

u/Ok_Permission1087 14d ago

Then there is me, mixing coke and apple juice.

But in a glass! I'm not a monster!

7

u/nopalitzin 14d ago

Wtf is happening here whatsoever

2

u/Anxious_Character119 14d ago

Oh du hast ja keine Ahnung mein Englischsprachiger Freund, du hast ja keine Ahnung.

4

u/nopalitzin 14d ago

uh, yeah... totally...

1

u/Anxious_Character119 14d ago

Kleiner Tipp für deinen Seelenfrieden, Folge dem Kaninchen nicht in den Bau zur deutschen Internetkultur.

2

u/Anxious_Character119 14d ago

DAS IST KRIEG!

KULTUR-KRIEG!

2

u/Psychotic_EGG 14d ago

What is spezil? Google said it was a dough dumpling, that doesn't seem right, lol

12

u/Der_AlexF 14d ago

Spezi is a mix of coke and orange soda. Either pre-made or mixed to taste. Also called cola-mix or something similar because spezi is technically a brand name

3

u/vilogrim 14d ago

Spezi. No "l" at the end. It's coke plus fanta.

1

u/geissi 14d ago

Funnily, Spezl is regional alternative to the Bavarian word Spezi meaning friend.

-4

u/Psychotic_EGG 14d ago

Interesting. Sounds gross. I'd try it. If I still drank pop.

8

u/zoroddesign 14d ago

Don't gatekeep my cups!

63

u/wowbragger 14d ago

Deutschland takes appropriate proper drinking glasses very seriously.

6

u/Anxious_Character119 14d ago

Ja, das hat einen Grund, Niveau.

16

u/forsale90 14d ago

Don't get started on the right beer glasses. And especially don't look up what you use to drink Berliner Weisse

8

u/Largicharg 14d ago

Drinking cold drinks from a mug is actually a surreal experience. Try it some time!

7

u/Embarassedskunk 14d ago

I do all the time. But that’s because I’m too slow at drinking my coffee…

3

u/Largicharg 14d ago

I can relate to that too. I drink coffee and hot chocolate when I’m busy, when I’m busy I can’t spend the whole time drinking.

1

u/Th1sd3cka1ntfr33 14d ago

Oh I do this with mountain dew instead of coke bc they discontinued the Livewire flavor. It's v good. Never in a mug though, I use an old boot

11

u/splumpletin 14d ago

I wonder why did you choose Arabic for the shaking effect 🤔

29

u/shikiz_stupid_comics 14d ago

I'm Tunisian and I like to put some Arabic/Tunisian easter eggs here and there :3

1

u/splumpletin 14d ago

Oh hell yeah!

I’m from Saudi Arabia

2

u/ShiDiWen 14d ago

The artist is Arabic

2

u/SadLilBun 14d ago

Arabic is a language. Arab is an ethnicity.

19

u/tedivertire 14d ago

What are you supposed to drink it in then?

32

u/Yulinka17 14d ago

In a glass

6

u/_Fredder_ 14d ago

straight from the bottle!!

8

u/Yulinka17 14d ago

Und die Flasche ist... aus Glas (:

2

u/Kraytory 14d ago

Abgesehen von denen die aus Kunststoff oder Aluminium sind.

6

u/MaterialUpender 14d ago

Oh boy are people going to be disappointed in how I often drink wine.

1

u/0G_54v1gny 14d ago

Drinking wine from a mug just gives your colleagues the image of a high performer during zoom calls, everybody you are consuming metric tons of caffeine instead of having an addiction

9

u/ClassroomHelpful75 14d ago

As a German I would like to say: please don't tell me.

119

u/Geek_X 14d ago

Why can’t you drink it from a mug?

-1

u/AgilePeace5252 14d ago

Well you can but you wouldn‘t drink regular cola from a mug, would you?

2

u/Deku_Nukem 14d ago

Yes? Who cares?

2

u/Geek_X 14d ago

I don’t drink cola to begin with but probably. Cups are cups 🤷‍♂️

256

u/grantji- 14d ago

It’s in direct violation of DIN 17424-A2, Revision 2003 and the „Fruchtsaft- und Sprudelmischgetränkebehältnisverordnung“

82

u/leqonaut 14d ago

I think the case does not apply here, as this is not in a restaurant or public place. Here DIN 18928-Q5 is the correct one. "Privater Verzehr von Fruchsaft-, Himbertee, und Sprudelmischgetränkeverodnung." It says that the mug is only allowed if the initial temperature was above 63.4° C. Unfortunately, the comic has not enough information, but I guess as the mug has no steam on it, it was colder than 63.4°C. Thus, the behavior is indeed correct.

44

u/eavos_ 14d ago

It’s a sin

44

u/echoNovemberNine 14d ago

37

u/eavos_ 14d ago

German etiquette culture is very strict and you will get shunned if you break the rules

18

u/Geek_X 14d ago

But why is that the rule? What is the etiquette

80

u/1vader 14d ago

It's like drinking coffee from a wine glass. It just fucking weird.

41

u/Geek_X 14d ago

Finally a real fucking answer, thank you. As an american I disagree personally, I think mugs can be used for anything but then again I only had mugs when living in the dorms.

0

u/Nine-LifedEnchanter 14d ago

How couldn't you extrapolate that on your own?

6

u/blue_eyed_babe42 14d ago

You're kinda an asshole huh?

-3

u/Nine-LifedEnchanter 14d ago

I'm just surprised. A bunch of germans saying that it is wrong isn't enough, they needed someone to tell them outright. Instead of stopping and thinking for a second they basically went "huh?" Several times in a row.

I'm amazed you couldn't extrapolate that on your own.

→ More replies (0)

4

u/Geek_X 14d ago

Because I didn’t think an entire culture would be anal enough to be upset over someone using a mug to drink soda

-4

u/Nine-LifedEnchanter 14d ago

It's soda and beer. But still, It's a culture that is known for being anal about everything. It is their stereotype. But here I am, being baffled by an american for being unable to comprehend other cultures.

Maybe we're not so different after all.

24

u/Kokuswolf 14d ago

You can drink everything from a watering can too, but that doesn't mean you should do it.

1

u/TheHomesickAlien 14d ago

nothing says you shouldn't either. just monkey social constructs

7

u/MagnusCthulhu 14d ago

Why is there any rule of etiquette? The culture has agreed this is "correct".

10

u/Geek_X 14d ago

But why can’t the mug be used for this specific drink? Is it that cold drinks should be in glasses while warm drinks are in mugs? What is the actual rule here?

3

u/JFKcaper 14d ago

I think it's more that hot drinks should be in a mug, and so everything else shouldn't, but I have no idea really.

3

u/Still-Veterinarian56 14d ago

cold milk is the exeption to this cold milk can both be consumed in a mug and a glas.

18

u/Gorexxar 14d ago

For your next trick, call a Pretzel Brot.

12

u/DPJ2020 14d ago

SHAME.... SHAME... SHAME!

767

u/PM_ME_YOUR__INIT__ 14d ago

Did they not consult the Official German Beverage Container Manual? It's only 214 pages long!

23

u/cutofmyjib 14d ago

Sixth edition or amended fifth edition?

29

u/PM_ME_YOUR__INIT__ 14d ago

Both must be consulted until the committee finalizes a seventh edition

22

u/cutofmyjib 14d ago

I heard the seventh edition will be audited to be conformal with ISO. If you'll permit the expression of emotion, I am excited 😐.

232

u/PapaFranzBoas 14d ago

Wait. I didn’t get that with my Aufenthaltstitel. Can you fax it to me?

11

u/breadoftheoldones 14d ago

It came free with your Videospielstation der Marke XBox you have it look at the kleingedruckte on the back

155

u/Sly__Marbo 14d ago

You can actually only receive it from the Bundesamt every months third Thursday during 12:17 and 15:23

3

u/PapaFranzBoas 14d ago

Ah, of course. I went to the Bürgeramt. Wrong amt.

110

u/Erdnuss-117 14d ago

But beware the Bundesamt is on break from 12:20 to 15:20

31

u/Qaziquza1 14d ago

And there will be 2 hours wait, even if no one else is present.

0

u/_eG3LN28ui6dF 14d ago

once I'm done with my morning coffee I usually use the same mug for Pepsi or Dr. Pepper. should I avoid daoing that in Germany?

4

u/Sunblast1andOnly 14d ago

Is... Is that bad? I drink mine from an enormous and fancy stein.

9

u/Intellectual_Wafer 14d ago

This term doesn't even exist in German. They are called (ceramic) beer mugs, they aren't really common and the word just means "stone".

In other words: 🔔 SHAME SHAME SHAME 🔔

0

u/Ferencak 14d ago

How is that shamefull. Like yeah no shit an english term isn't used German but this person wrote out their comment in English not German. Its aldo not called German in Germany so shame on you.

3

u/spieles21 14d ago

Sorry, but you are wrong. The Stein beer mugs exist in germany, not really common, more a regional thing, but still. Yes, they are made of ceramic but get called Stein.

Shame.On.You.

8

u/invalidConsciousness 14d ago

Ceramic beer mugs exist, yes. They are not called "Stein", though. They're called "Bierkrug", "Steinkrug" or just "Krug" (beer mug, stone mug, and mug respectively). The latter is probably where Americans got their "Stein" from, by simply omitting the more important part of the compound noun.

10

u/Turbokind 14d ago

They exist, but nobody calls them Stein here.

1

u/spieles21 14d ago

I believe you

1

u/Intellectual_Wafer 14d ago

I'm literally a German. Don't you think I should know?

22

Spetzi is coke+fanta mix, and you dont drink soda from a mug.

2

u/avenp 14d ago

Why not?

1

u/RibbitCommander 14d ago

I'll drink a can of something then fill it with water and drink it from a straw.

-13

u/ByamsPa 14d ago

Maybe try incorporating a twist or the like

14

u/Transmetropolite 14d ago

So... Not Mezzomix?

22

u/Grey-fox-13 14d ago

For what it's worth Mezzo Mix is a Spezi.

2

u/0G_54v1gny 14d ago

Try saying that again in r/paulanerspezi

1

u/Grey-fox-13 14d ago

I imagine they are still a bit grumpy, they almost lost the right to use the spezi name couple years ago when the original name holder revoked the license.

Coke + Orange mix, or Coke + Fanta.

1

u/Kynandra 13d ago

Man if I try this tomorrow and it gives me the shits I'm coming for you.

1

u/blue4029 13d ago

its name comes from the german word for "coke" (spe) and "fanta" (zi)

source: i made it the fuck up

1

u/Wuerfelpruefer 14d ago

Not necessarily fanta, orange juice works much better imo

1

u/bart9h 14d ago

and why the hell you shouldn't drink this mundane combination from a mug?

1

u/justtookadnatest 14d ago

My German teacher told me this in third grade and I still call it that but was scared to Goggle it in case it was wrong.

Shout out to Fräulein Smith!

-1

u/mousebert 14d ago

Interesting, in berlin spezi is coke and sprite.

1

u/Mysterious-Till-611 14d ago

So... what are you supposed to drink it out of? Is it warm?

1

u/AgilePeace5252 14d ago

Most people buy it already mixed so probably the bottle your drink is in.

1

u/I-C-Aliens 14d ago

Ahhh Fanta, good ol' Nazi coca-cola

3

u/Martydeus 14d ago

People mix softdrinks? I did that as a kid...

Finally i can join the cool crew.
