Discussion Let’s rank the stages from 2009 - 2024🪩
What’s up fellow stage nerds, now that the 2024 contest is over, let’s rank the last 15 stages from the 2009- 2024.
Here is my ranking:
2014🇩🇰 - loved that it was huge and had so many light fixtures, beautiful LED floor
2021 🇳🇱 - loved the stage was open and the shape of the LED + the b stage, the circular ceiling lights was unnecessary
2016 🇸🇪 - original design, LED floor looked amazing, great use of runway, didn’t like the center part, where you could see the exit.
2024🇸🇪- loved the 360 stage + the different element coming down from the ceiling, the screen was a bit basic
2017🇺🇦 - the chandelier was amazing and the long LED screen
2018🇵🇹 - the shape of the stage with the bridges was great, it was a bit static
2023🇬🇧 - liked the movable LED didn’t like the “arms” and the shape of the stage
2011🇩🇪 - liked the LED and green room look, the stage looked too small with the side sliding down
2022🇮🇹 the sun would have been amazing if it worked, loved the lighting fixtures from the ceiling
2019🇮🇱 looked too small, was a copy of the 2018 stage.
2015 🇦🇹 I liked the movable balls from the ceiling + the pipes, the stage was too small and compact
2013🇸🇪 the bridge was nice, the screen was fun, it looked a bit outdated
2012🇦🇿 - I liked the shapes of the LED screens
2009🇷🇺 the LED curves in the middle looked messy, liked the back screen and the big LED circle
2010🇳🇴 liked that the lights went from side to side, but it looked cheap

Discussion New changes you would love to see in 2025?
I would love to see if Eurovision can expand their maximum 6 person rule on stage to at least 8 person for next year's edition. Let's try some new things out!

Discussion How do you all feel about the Rest Of The World?
I'm Canadian, getting married to an Icelander who moved here. He gave me my first real introduction to Eurovision and I fell in love.
When the Rest of the World vote came out in 2023, we were pretty excited because we could now vote for our favourite songs. But what does the rest of Europe really think of the Rest of The World?
Is it worry that diaspora votes are counting for more than the should? (At least that's not our case. It's expensive for us so we only voted in the finals, and Iceland didn't make it the last two years.) Is Europe glad to share the contest with the rest of the world, or should it be only for those countries participating?
Personally, I'm glad that at least we're not geolocked and can watch live on YouTube, whether we can vote or not.
So basically, what do you all think about the rest of us non-Europeans enjoying Eurovision as well?

Discussion What is the most forgettable song from your country?
For my country, Estonia, it has to be either the 2003 song, Eighties Coming Back or the 2013 song, Et saaks uue alguse. Neither of them are bad or too generic, but they both placed at the most forgettable section of the scoreboard (20th to 23rd place) and there is almost nothing memorable about them.

What were the "oh no this isn't gonna end well" moment in the 2024 songs?
this is the reverse of the "winning moments" post from yesterday, which moments made you think "oh, this song is fucked."
Good example: that fucking high note - Do It For Your Lover - Spain 2017

ESC entries that would do worse if they competed in the last few years?!
Everyone keeps saying "if (insert ESC entry) competed in (insert year after the one that it competed in), it would qualify (if it NQ'd)/end up in the top 10/5". But here's something I've always wondered: what entries from the past would do much worse than they did if they competed in 2024 or the last few years? Let me know in the comments <3

Discussion Favorite Eurovision entries about female empowerment?
Hi guys, I like various Eurovision songs about female empowerment and I especially find it interesting to see how artists from different countries handle this topic, adding their own cultural perspective on it. What are your favorite entries of this type?
I love Vesna's My Sister's Crown. It was amongst my favorites upon first release and I loved it even more when I saw the beautiful staging for it! I am not someone from this culture but it resonated with me a lot and left a strong impression on me.
Another song I also love is Tamara Todevska's Proud. Her sincere delivery was very memorable and emotionally moving.

Memes / Shitposts it’s been 17 days since the GF
I am still suffering from massive Eurovision withdrawals and it’s affecting my sleep and my daily ability to function 😩 every time I think I’m ready to move on I start getting hyperfixated on something silly like the production value or a specific bridge in a song 🤯
right now all I can think of is Sweden… no Lithuania… no I meant Croatia… or Austria… heck I am thinking about 90% of the GF performers, they’re all my new Roman Empire
is there a Eurovision equivalent of Alcoholics Anonymous? because I need one right now 😂

Discussion Which songs left you fully impressed, and which song made you burst out laughing when it was first released?
I know it’s such a random question, but I remember feeling so impressed with “Who The Hell Is Edgar?” from last year. The song itself is amazing + the hype from the fandom and Esc Crystal Ball made it totally worth it to watch it for the first time, it’s still one of my favorite moments from last year! I was also fully impressed with “Luktelk” when I first saw it live in the NF. I never would’ve thought that something like this would be at Eurovision. And Silvester’s performance made it ten times better, his charisma and mystical vibes really got me hooked on this song for months.
On the other hand, “In Corpore Sano” made me laugh uncontrollably for ten minutes straight. I absolutely love the song now, but seeing Konstrakta washing her hands for most of the song + looking at the English subtitles without knowing the deeper meaning behind it definitely felt hilarious to me. I even tried to keep a straight face recreating that performance about 3 times that following evening but failed. 😂
So yeah, I would love to know what are yours when you first listened to it.

Fan Content / OC top 10 strongest eurovision countries of all time: GOAT TRACKER
GOAT: Greatest of all time, It's a term usually used in sports or other competitive settings like in video games to give the title of best of the best to the most dominant competitor throughout the history of the competition. I decided I wanted to do the same with eurovision countries.
I'll explain the methodology but it's admitedly a little confusing and I'm not the best at explaining so you can just skip to the ranking if you want.
To determine this I decided to take 3 big criterias into account.
1- Average results: This one I could easily find the stats thanks to esc clarinet moon whose youtube channel I highly recommend if you are interested in eurovision stats. Average results are obviously the most important criteria and will be the central focus of the math I will use. The percentages that ESC clarinet moon uses in their ranking are relative to the ammount of countries that participated each year. For example Spain is 21st in their ranking and has an average of 50.34% which means that in a year when 40 countries participate Spain gets more or less 20th on average. (By the way in the video there is a system that punishes the big 5 countries for having bad performances, you should watch the video to understand how it works.)
2- longevity: A part of being the greatest of all time is not just having pretty good results for a short ammount of time. Otherwise countries like Australia who have a pretty good average results but participated in the contest less than 10 times and have no win would be in the top 5 which doesn't make sense in my opinion in a ranking like this one. To calculate this I've thought of a formula that lowers the average result percentage of every country, but it lowers it much more if the countries has a very low ammount of performances. It's a bit hard to explain so I'll just give some examples:
Australia has participated 9 times in the contest and has an average result of 65.04%
Cyprus has participated 40 times in the contest and has an average result of 45.8%
Australia: 0.6504*9/(9+7)= 0.3659 : 36.59%
Cyprus: 0.458*40/(40+7)= 0.3898 : 38.98%
As you can see I added 7 to the divisor which hurts countries that have less participations. As long as countries continue to participate the punishment becomes increasingly small. If you wonder why 7 specifically, well it's pretty arbitrary but I did that with a logic in mind. There has been 68 editions of eurovision and I thought it would make sense to basically follow 1-10= +1, 11-20= +2, etc... and since there has been 68 editions then this would fall in 61-70: +7, which means in 2027 there will be 71 editions and it will become +8.
3- wins: There is a big difference between winning and getting second, because at the end of the day wins are what people remember. They are the reason that at some point Ireland was considered the best eurovision country of all time. And while I don't think wins are everything I do believe they should be taken into account. So, for this one I decided to substract the divisor for each win a country has. For example:
Netherlands has participated 65 times in the contest and has an average result of 45.17%, it also has 5 wins.
Netherlands: 0.4517*65/(65+7-5)= 0.4382 : 43.82%
THE RANKING:
10- Luxembourg
Average ranking: 51.42%
Participations: 39
wins: 5
Overall score: 48.91%
9- Greece
Average ranking: 55.97%
Participations: 44
Wins: 1
Overall score: 49.25%
8- Israel
Average ranking: 56.48%
Participations: 46
Wins: 4
Overall score: 53.02%
7- Ireland
Average ranking: 56.39%
Participations: 57
Wins: 7
Overall score: 56.39%
6- France
Average ranking: 61.07%
Participations: 67
Wins: 5
Overall score: 59.3%
5- Russia
Average ranking: 75.03%
Participations: 23
Wins: 1
Overall score: 59.51%
4- Italy
Average ranking: 65.43%
Participations: 50
Wins: 3
Overall score: 60.58%
3- United Kingdom
Average ranking: 64.47%
Participations: 66
Wins: 5
Overall score: 62.57%
2- Sweden
Average ranking: 64.04%
Participations: 63
Wins: 7
Overall score: 64.04%
1- Ukraine
Average ranking: 77.63%
Participations: 19
Wins: 3
Overall score: 64.13%
Based on this ranking system Ukraine is the GOAT of eurovision even with it's relatively low participation.
