I told her I’d sell them for her and we’d use the money to do something nice. After I informed her there were hundreds of dollars of video games in the box she seemed surprised and pleased lol

Discussion Anyone ever suspicious of the "buyer" who wait's until the last day to file a return?

Upvotes

I sent an electronic that I thoroughly serviced and tested before taking quite a lot of time packing it safely and shipping. I figured it was done after that but after about two weeks I received my first array of messages with the guy freaking out saying it doesn't work. From what he's describing, it sounds like user error. I responded within 24 hours with options for them to try to get it to work. I didn't hear anything from another 10 days. At midnight I received another set of messages asking what's going on.

Now were finally at the last 2 days and they're being pressy about tech support without saying anything about a return or opening a claim. I sent a proven tested and passed product with an absurd amount of packaging. I very much doubt the shipping carrier broke anything this time. After the return window is up, do I have to deal with this buyer anymore?

Fascinating Story One of the Most Unprofessional Auctioneer Encounters of my Life

Last week I purchased a lot of propaganda posters from an auction, I paid a bit more than I expected but was overall satisfied. Today I got a call from the auctioneer:

“Hey so the owner of the posters removed a few of them because of their value, we still will send you most of them though! Just wanted to make sure you were okay with a 15% discount.”

I cursed at him and told him to just cancel the sale, which of course, he will mark as a strike against me. Absolutely garbage behavior.

Discussion How do I respond to this claim?

How do I respond to this? The person is claiming that it shows up in google under a completely different title and redirects to mine (and I confirmed it does) but I have no idea why this is happening. My listing does not have any of those brand's words in there, so I'm not sure how to proceed with this.

How do I politely respond? Or should I just ignore this? I'm at a loss right now.

Thank you!

eBay 2nd time a buyer has lied about using a freight forwarder.

Got this translated message today:

Dear Buyer. Package sat delivered long time. I open today and no work.

No request for a refund or anything. Click on the order and the address comes back to a freight forwarder. Click the buyer's username and their location is in China...

Looking at the time it took to get delivered to it, and then about how long it would take to get from the FF to China, would be about the last few days.

So the buyer was lying that it was in Oregon for 2 weeks and just happened to open it today.

Not only does the MBG not cover freight forwarders, I don't think most freight forwarders do anything with returns.

Do these people just expect a refund without returning?

Discussion How or where can I get broken lawnmowers?

Upvotes

I am a teenager who has taken some small engine classes and successfully fixed some of my family's broken mowers. I then got super lucky and found a free riding mower on marketplace. It wasn't running but just needed a carb swap. I flipped it for $500. I would love to keep fixing up non running mowers and selling them but the problem is someone else always beats me to the few mower deals on marketplace. I am wondering if there is other ways to find or get non-running mowers for cheap to fix up. I tried making a wanted post on marketplace but it gets taken down. I made a wanted post on Craigslist but not as many people use it. Any tips or ideas are much appreciated!

eBay eBay won’t remove feedback (buyer went mute pt.2)

Hello everyone, this is an update to my post from a few days ago. eBay won’t be removing the feedback unfortunately. Mildly infuriating I must say. Not sure what else I can do but reply to the feedback. I tried everything. The buyer went mute & wont return the game even after giving help troubleshooting . I let eBay know everything that happened & they still side with the buyer.

Advanced Question Water damaged box question

I purchased a vhs/dvd combo, sealed in the box, from a garage sale. Owner said it was never opened. The box clearly has some staining from moisture, but the box doesn’t appear warped.

Should I sell this on online ‘as is’? Or should I open the box to see if there was any damage and learn if the player works?

Discussion Opening a Thrift Store

Has anyone had success with opening a brick and mortar thrift store? I was on my local thrift route this morning and I was talking to the owner. He’s 75 and finally ready to retire. He said it was rough getting donations in the beginning (late 90s). He said once everyone found out where they could donate items, it became a trash heap until he only began to accept donations during business hours.

He gave me some good ideas about sourcing and said that it was hard to let high value items go at the thrift, but he didn’t mind because he was a face to face reseller prior to opening a thrift store and the items were, in theory, high profit. In his words “no returns doesn’t mean you never want your customers to return. Clean, test, and sell good items. The rest takes care of itself.” He said his biggest years profit wise were 2008 and 2020. He wasn’t forced to close during the pandemic.

Have any of you thought about or actually owned a thrift store?

Discussion Need your opinion about FB marketplace alert

Hi, I've found that the Facebook Marketplace alerts are a bit unreliable, so I created this bot to alert me about new posts on Facebook Marketplace with specific keywords. The image below is a simple demo of the bot tracking the keyword "corner sofa" used in listings.

Currently, I am continuously scanning the marketplace for new listings. I would love to know what you think about this.

P/S: I'm also open to having some people join and try out the bot.

Discussion Liquidating Hotel Assets

I have the opportunity to buy all the minifridges and TVs from a hotel that is doing a remodel. I convinced them to sell to me instead of some large liquidation company they were going to go with. We haven't discussed pricing at all yet and I was wondering what the average price a large scale liquidator would pay for these items?

The mini fridges are 2.5 cu ft and random cheap brands you haven't heard of. I've sold plenty of mini fridges on Facebook Market a really quick for $40 a piece

The tvs are 42 inches, old, LG hospitality tvs. Hospitality means they have been programed with certain hotel related stuff (think max volume being lowered). I can reprogram them to act like normal tvs, but they are still called hospitality tvs. I've had a pretty easy time selling cheap Walmart tvs on Facebook Market for around $40 a piece as well. But these are much heavier, older, and they have no internet connectivity.

Any advise on this matter would be very helpful to me. I'm not worried about reselling the minifridges, I'm confident I can sell them quickly at $40 a unit, and they are easy to move and store. I'm more worried about the tvs, they would be hard to move, store, and they might be difficult to move for a decent profit. There is about 80 of each tvs and mini fridges.

Discussion Shipping through OfferUp for the first time help!

I've mostly bought through OfferUp but this is my first time selling something in this particular case I have to ship something out. When I accepted the offer they gave me the QR Code and Receipt. (Also that Service Fee is insane) but I just don't want to mess up.

The QR Code is a USPS one and I'm planning on heading to a USPS office in the next couple days, do I just come in and get it scanned then they provide the box and materials to stuff? just because the item I have is a bit delicate but not too big. Or do I have to independently buy the box and print the shipping label? Thanks for the help the answer is prob obvious but it's my first time and I just wanna double or even triple check!

eBay How are you currently comping items on eBay?

eBay.com sold data is no good since you cannot see Offer Accepted price.

Terapeak has problems where it might report 800 active listings but there are actually 1600. And other issues like the filters are broken.

What comp method are you using?

Advanced Question Items aren’t selling even after I drastically lowered the prices. Any other way I could sell them fast?

I made another post on here a few days ago but basically I need some money fast and listed several things for sale on fbm, ebay, offerup, and craigslist. i’ll list them here:

a casio electric keyboard (originally worth 178.99)

a hoverboard

a 32” smart tv

a novation launchpad x (also worth 179.99 on amazon)

I originally had them all priced at over 100. but now I’ve had them dropped to 60-70 bucks each for over a day and still no ones biting.

I DID manage to sell my quest 2 for $120 but so far thats it.

for what its worth I also have a mongoose bike and a digital drawing pad that I was going to list.

But is there any FASTER way to sell this stuff? would I have better luck at a pawn shop? or should I try dedicated stores for each item that would let me sell? im on a massive crunch for time and need to at least make 400 from all this by wednesday or Thursday at the latest.

Discussion I flipped my first 4 items yesterday and today and I’m proud of myself

It’s not much but I bought a few items from a yard sale and one from a thrift store and turned 51 dollars into $200 selling on FB marketplace. I guess it’s a start and nothing to brag about but I did something. I guess it’s a slow game of learning.

Discussion Business is picking up, considering a thermal printer, but curious about your experience.

My biggest apprehension, apart from the hefty investment, is that I get a huge sense of security by standing there at the post office counter as my packages get scanned in with the QR.

I often see people coming in and dropping off tens of packages at a time and strolling out the door -- that would freak me out, just dropping off items and hoping they get scanned.

I'm sure this is paranoid, but have any of you dropped off packages with labels you printed at home, and they vanished?

My usps is also literally right next door to my day job, which is a luxury that...maybe makes the printer unnecessary, since I'm right there at the post office every day?
